  • Because of the radical changes in the domestic and foreign economic circumstances Koreaa fisheries is confronted with difficulties. Along the end of the UR marine products of other nations are rushing into Korea. Also migration of labor to other industries and rise of wage level in Korean fisheries deteriorate managerial conditions. But in Korea which has little natural resourses fisheries is still more important. That is \circled1 creating job opportunites \circled2 increase of income \circled3 supply of foodstuffs and animal protein \circled4 acquisition of foreign currency \circled5 enlargement of domestic market for industrial products \circled6 development of other interrelated industries \circled7 rational use of domestic resourses \circled8 diversification of population and production activites \circled9 contribution to balanced growth of national economy by the developing regional economy. These roles of fisheries in national economy mentioned above are to be excuted forward. In spite of the radical change in the economic circumstances at the end of the UR fisheries if crucial in Korea as a industry. For this our fisheries is to be made to compete with foreign fisheries. Through the cheap price and high quality our fisheries must be came to compete with foreign fisheries and meet the people's needs for marine products. For this it is necessary to maintain high productivity and competitive power. Now with the exception of a portion of the deep - sea fishing, our fisheries is generally paltry, Especially inshore fishery which is the main stock in our fisheries is very paltry and so productivity and competetive power are very low. So to develop our fisheries which has s comparative disadvantage active polices that follows below are to be promoted on a large scale. \circled1 improvement of structure \circled2 augmentation of productivity in fishing ground by making fisheries resourses \circled3 enlargement of finantial and monetary assistance \circled4 effective administration of fisheries cooperative union \circled5 activation of R&D etc These polices which need to be scientific and comprehensive are very valuable. Especially without making fishieries resources we cannot expect economy of scale, promotion of productivity and development of fisheries. And we do also endeavour to gather the results of the study and investigation about fisheries domestic and foreign and do ceaselessly put these to practical use systimatically.

  • Ejector is a simple device which can transport a low-pressure secondary flow by using a high-pressure primary flow. The efficiency of the ejector system is relatively very low, compared to other fluid transport devices driven mainly by the forces acting on the normal direction. However, its major advantage is a simple structure with no moving parts, and it transports a large amount of fluid with a small driving energy. In this study, the performance of side-type liquid ejector commonly used in ships; is analyzed by using experimental and CFD methods under steady and incompressible flow condition by varying the length of the throat and diffuser, the flow pattern and suction phenomenon were studied in detail.

  • A submerged breakwater is a coastal structure built under water with excellent landscape. The depth of the crest of the breakwater should be maintained at more than a certain level in order for the submerged breakwater to control waves properly. This means that the effect of blocking waves deceases sharply at high tide in coastal areas with large tidal differences. In this study, we proposed a Tide-Adapting Submerged Breakwater (TA-SB) to overcome this problem, and then we conducted hydraulic model experiments to evaluate the performance of the TA-SB for controlling waves. The experimental results showed that the tapered wings attached to the crest of the TA-SB helped induce forced breaking waves. In particular, they were very effective in blocking waves and attenuating wave energy at high tide. In addition, the wave control performance of the proposed TA-SB was far superior to the Tide-Adapting Low-Crested Structure (TA-LCS) of the previous study.

  • The wind stress and the wind-stress curl over the East Sea of Korea are computed from the ship-observed wind data by the FRDA. In order to emphasize the role of the wind in determining the upper-layer structure, rather persistent and strong winds are selected based on the wind-rose data. The monthly averaged wind stresses are comparable in size with the average value over the Japan Sea. But the monthly averaged magnitude of the wind-stress curl is very large compared to the one over the Japan Sea. This may be due to the spatial variation of the wind speeds influenced by the local orography. The wind-driven upper-layer thickness over the East Sea suggests that the site of deep upper layer indeed exists regardless of season but the position does not appear to be fixed. The convergence of warm surface water driven by the wind could be referred as the warm core.

  • Although a yacht sails operate with large displacement due to very thin thickness, many studies for flow around yacht sails have not considered the sail deformation. The sail deformation not only caused a change in the center of effect(CE) on the sail but also a change in the thrust of the sail. The change of the CE and thrust affects the center of lateral resistance(CLR) and side forces of the hull, and the balance of the yacht. These changes affect the motion of the yacht which changes the velocity of the yacht. Thus, when analyzing the flow around yacht sails, the sail deformation should be considered. In the present study, fluid-structure-interaction(FSI) analysis of a two dimensional section of yacht sails was performed to consider the effects of sail deformation on the lift and drag performance. FSI and moving mesh methods were studied. Computational methods were verified using benchmark test cases such as the flow around horizontal and vertical cantilever beams. Shape deformation, pressure distribution, lift forces and separation flow were compared for both rigid and deformable sail.

  • In the ship building industry, the generation of a structural analysis model, that is, a finite element model of a hull structure, has been manually performed by a designer and thus has required lots of time as compared with that of a mechanical part, because of many constraints, the complexity, and the huge size of the hull structure. To make this task automatic, a generation method of the structural analysis model is proposed through the reconstruction of the topological information of a hull structural model in this study. The applicability of the proposed method is demonstrated by applying it to the generation of the structural analysis model of a deadweight 300,000ton VLCC(Very Large Crude oil Carrier).

  • The design of the mooring line to maintain the position of an offshore structure in rough marine environments is recognized as a very important consideration. Conventional fatigue evaluation of a mooring line was performed by considering the tensile force acting on the mooring line, but the mooring line broke after 238 days in the girassol area even though the expected fatigue life was expected to be longer. The causes of this event are known to be due to OPB/IPB (out-of-plane bending/in-plane bending) caused by chain link friction due to the excessive tensile strength of the mooring line. In this study, three models with different boundary conditions were proposed for fatigue analysis of a mooring line considering OPB/IPB. Interlink stiffness was calculated by nonlinear structure analysis and a stress concentration factor was derived. In addition, the sensitivity of interlink stiffness according to the magnitude of tensile force, large deformation effect, and coefficient of friction was analyzed, and the effect of critical elastic slip and bending moment calculation position on interlink stiffness was confirmed.

  • The weight estimation and calculation of FPSO topsides is first performed at the bidding stage of projects. At this time, it is difficult to estimate and calculate accurately the weight because most of items of FPSO are not apparently defined. Especially, in the case of the pipe rack module, its portion of the total weight and the range of weight variation are large due to special features of piping and electric equipment in the module. Thus, it is very important to estimate and calculate accurately its weight in the task of the weight estimation and calculation of FPSO topsides. In this study, the past data for the weight of the pipe rack module were collected and analyzed, the WBS (Work Breakdown Structure) for the pipe rack module was constructed, and primary variables and secondary variables for developing a weight estimation and calculation model were selected. That is, after analyzing the past data, the volume was selected as the primary variable and the regression analysis was performed based on the variable. Then, several secondary variables were selected and incorporated into a weight estimation and calculation model. At this time, the weight per discipline was assumed from ratios of the total weight. Finally, the weight of the pipe rack module was estimated and calculated by using the developed model. As a result, the deviation from the model was better than that (-20 % ~ 60 %) of other studies about the weight estimation and calculation of FPSO topsides. Thus, the validity and applicability of the weight estimation and calculation of the pipe rack could be checked.

  • Normally consolidated and slightly overconsolidated soft clay layer is widely distributed in the south coast of Korea. To ensure the efficient and economical construction design of any structure to be built on this soft soil, exhaustive studies related to geotechnical and physical engineering properties are required. In this study, the relationship of the physical properties of southern Gwangyang marine clay in the Korea Peninsula were examined, including natural water content, specific gravity, total unit weight, initial void ratio, liquid limit, plastic limit, and physical properties of activity and soil parameters. For the parameter relationship analysis, the latest relatively reliable data on the large harbor construction work were used, optimum values were deducted with linear regression and non-linear regression between soil parameters, water content or initial void ratio appears to be very large. Moreover, in the linear and involution pattern regression, equal coefficient of determination appeared. The relationship of the different parameters was shown to be excellent in the non-linear regression of involution equation and exponential equation pattern compared with the findings of linear regression analysis.
