Photogrammetry is a current method of GIS data acquisition. However, as a matter of fact, a large manpower and expenditure for making detailed 3D spatial information is required especially in urban areas where various buildings exist. There are no photogrammetric systems which can automate a process of spatial information acquisition completely. On the other hand, LiDAR has high potential of automating 3D spatial data acquisition because it can directly measure 3D coordinates of objects, but it is rather difficult to recognize the object with only LiDAR data, for its low resolution at this moment. With this background, we believe that it is very advantageous to integrate LiDAR data and stereo CCD images for more efficient and automated acquisition of the 3D spatial data with higher resolution. In this research, the automatic urban object recognition methodology was proposed by integrating ultra highresolution stereo images and LiDAR data. Moreover, a method to enable more reliable and detailed stereo matching method for CCD images was examined by using LiDAR data as an initial 3D data to determine the search range and to detect possibility of occlusions. Finally, intellectual DSMs, which were identified urban features with high resolution, were generated with high speed processing.
Images from satellites will have 1 to 3 meter ground resolution and will be very useful for analyzing current status of earth surface. An image processing system named GeoWatch with more intelligent image processing algorithms has been designed and implemented to support the detailed analysis of the land surface using high-resolution satellite imagery. The GeoWatch is a valuable tool for satellite image processing such as digitizing, geometric correction using ground control points, interactive enhancement, various transforms, arithmetic operations, calculating vegetation indices. It can be used for investigating various facts such as the change detection, land cover classification, capacity estimation of the industrial complex, urban information extraction, etc. using more intelligent analysis method with a variety of visual techniques. The strong points of this system are flexible algorithm-save-method for efficient handling of large size images (e.g. full scenes), automatic menu generation and powerful visual programming environment. Most of the existing image processing systems use general graphic user interfaces. In this paper we adopted visual program language for remotely sensed image processing for its powerful programmability and ease of use. This system is an integrated raster/vector analysis system and equipped with many useful functions such as vector overlay, flight simulation, 3D display, and object modeling techniques, etc. In addition to the modules for image and digital signal processing, the system provides many other utilities such as a toolbox and an interactive image editor. This paper also presents several cases of image analysis methods with AI (Artificial Intelligent) technique and design concept for visual programming environment.
Methods of geometric correction for the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer imagery of NOAA satellites were developed and applied to the software for image processing of meteorological satellite data. The software for finding the earth location of each scan position and the software for gridding on original imagery were dedigned. On the assumption of circular orbits and the spherical earth, the methods developed were sufficiently accurate in the purpose of most meteorological data analyses.
Telemetry processing system requires minimum bit transition level in data streams to maintain a bit synchronization while receiving telemetry signal. PN code has a capability of providing the bit transition and is widely used in the packet communication of CCSDS. CCSDS PN code that generator polynomial is $h(x)=x^{8}+x^{7}+x^{5}+x^{3}+1$, and the random bit sequence that is generated from this polynomial is repeated with the cycle of 255 bits. As the resolution of satellite image increases, the size and transmission rate of data increases. To process of huge and bulky size of satellite image, the speed of CCSDS PN Processing is very important. This paper introduces the way of improving the CCSDS PN Processing speed through processing 128 bits at one time using the feature of cyclic structure that repeats after first 255 bytes by grouping the random bit sequence with 1 byte and Intel Streaming SIMD Extensions 2. And this paper includes the comparison data of processing speed between SSE2-applied implementation and not-applied implementation, in addition, the measured value of speed improvement.
Disaster management using VHR (very high resolution) satellite images supports rapid damage assessment and also offers detailed information of the damages. However, the acquisition of pre-event VHR satellite images is usually limited due to the long revisit time of VHR satellites. The absence of the pre-event data can reduce the accuracy of damage assessment since it is difficult to distinguish the changed region from the unchanged region with only post-event data. To address this limitation, in this study, we conducted the wildfire-induced change detection on national wildfire cases using post-fire VHR satellite images and GIS (Geographic Information System) data. For GIS data, a national land cover map was selected to simulate the pre-fire NIR (near-infrared) images using the spatial information of the pre-fire land cover. Then, the simulated pre-fire NIR images were used to analyze bi-temporal NDVI (Normalized Difference Vegetation Index) correlation for unsupervised change detection. The whole process of change detection was performed on a superpixel basis considering the advantages of superpixels being able to reduce the complexity of the image processing while preserving the details of the VHR images. The proposed method was validated on the 2019 Gangwon wildfire cases and showed a high overall accuracy over 98% and a high F1-score over 0.97 for both study sites.

The river management in Korea had been focused on line based 2D spatial data for the developing river management application system. In this study, the polygon based 3D spatial data such as aerial photos and satellite images were selected and used through comparing their resolution levels for the river environment management. In addition, 1m detailed DEM (Digital Elevation Model) was constructed to implement the real topography information around river so that the damage area scale could be extracted for flood disaster. Also, the social environment thematic maps such as a cadastral map or land cover map could be used to verify the real damage area scale by overlay analysis on aerial photos or satellite images. The construction of these spatial data makes possible to present the real surface information and extract quantitative analysis to support the scientific decision making for establishing the river management policy. For the further study, the lidar surveying data will be considered as the very useful data by offering the real height information of riverbed as the depth of river so that flood simulation can give more reality.

Recently, the high-resolution satellite images is used the land cover and status data for the natural resources or environment management very helpful. The SVM algorithm of image processing has been used in various field. However, classification accuracy by SVM algorithm can be changed by various kernel functions and parameters. In this paper, the typical kernel function of the SVM algorithm was applied to the KOMPSAT-2 image and than the result of land cover performed the accuracy analysis using the checkpoint. Also, we carried out the analysis for selected the SVM kernel function from the land cover of the target region. As a result, the polynomial kernel function is demonstrated about the highest overall accuracy of classification. And that we know that the polynomial kernel and RBF kernel function is the best kernel function about each classification category accuracy.
Impervious surface affects urban climate, flood, and water pollution. With a higher paved rate, expanded heat containing capacity of buildings and roads raises atmospheric temperature, and increased quantity of the outflowed water brings flood during a heavy downpour. Moreover, increased non-point source pollutant load is accountable for water pollution. In this regard, it is definitely important to research and keep monitoring the current situation of paved surface, which influences urban ecosystem, disaster and pollution. In fact, collecting information on urban paved surface, which requires the time and expense, is very difficult due to its complicate structure. In order to solve the problem, this study suggested a method to utilize satellite image data for efficient survey on the current condition of paved surface. It analyzed the paved surface condition of Anyang-si by using IKONOS image and discussed the usefulness and limitation of this method.
As high resolution satellite images can be used, numerous studies have been carried out for exploiting these images in various fields. This paper proposes horse hoof shaped object detection method based on mathematical morphology to extract interesting targets. Interesting targets have conceptually similar shapes such as a horse hoof, not having exact size or shape. Detection of an object with the similar shapes is possible by applying mathematical morphology processes. The proposed method allows an automatic object detection system to detect the meaningful object in a large satellite image rapidly. The mathematical morphology process can be applied to binary images, and thus this method is very simple. Therefore, this method can easily extract a "horse hoof shaped object" from any image that has indistinct edges of the interesting object and different image qualities depending on the filming location, filming time, and filming environment. Using the proposed method by which a "horse hoof shaped object" can be rapidly extracted, the performance of the automatic object detection system can be improved.

This study investigated the accuracy of DEM generated by heterogeneous stereo satellite images based on RPC. Heterogeneous sensor images with different spatial resolution are SPOT-5 panchromatic and IKONOS images. For the accuracy evaluation of the DEM, we compared the DEMs generated from two kinds of sensors and that produced using homogeneous SPOT-5 and IKONOS stereo images. As results of the evaluation, accuracy of 3D positioning by heterogeneous images was substantially similar to that of homogeneous stereo images for exact conjugate points. But, in terms of quality of the DEM, DEM generated by heterogeneous sensor showed a lower accuracy about twice in RMSE and about 3 times in LE90 than that of homogeneous sensors. As a result, DEM can be generated by using heterogenous satellite imagery. But if we use a stereo image with different spatial resolution, the performance of image matching was very important factor for the production of high-quality DEM.
