Juwangsan area($107.4km^2$) has been designated as the twelfth National Park in 1976, because it has magnificent aspect and seasonally spectacular landscapes. Juwang valley($9,177.5m^2$) has been designated as Noted Scenery No. 11 in 2003, because it has the same topographical landscape as rock domes, rock cliffs, caves, waterfalls and plunge pools. The most spectacular landscapes are exhibited in the densely welded zone of the Juwangsan Tuff. The rock cliffs generated from vertical joints in the densely welded zone, in which there are the same many rock cliffs as Geupsudae, Haksodae, Sinseondae, Mangwoldae, Giam and Byeongpungbawi, three caves such as Juwanggul, Mujanggul and Yeonhwagul in the cliff. The cliffs and caves are landscapes that were generated from vertical joints in the densely welded zone, and the rock domes and waterfalls are landscapes of erosional vertical joint planes in the zone. The vertical joints are columnar joints formed during cooling of the Juwangsan Tuff. Therefore the topographical features cause the cooling columnar joints that are vertically intersected in the densely welded zone of the Juwangsan Tuff.

LCD robot vertical frame lets a arm assembly with glass substrate move up and down, so it must have high stiffness and strength. We applied new manufacturing process by using design optimization process such as topology and size optimization in order to satisfy the request of high stiffness and light weight. The proposed model should be evaluated for endurance strength. Therefore fatigue assessment for weak point of aluminum welding area of vertical frame studied with hot spot stress approach. And the actual stress measuring from test was compared and evaluated with the dynamic stress calculated from multi-body dynamics considering flexible body.

The paper presented the seismic performance of T-stiffener moment connections for use in steel moment-resisting frames. The connections were strengthened by welding the vertical and horizontal clement of the T-stiffener to the beam flange and column f1ange. Finite clement analysis and experiments were conducted to determine the behavior of T-stiffener-reinforced connections. The results of the finite element analysis confirmed the effectiveness of the T-stiffener, whose horizontal element lengthened to mitigate local stress concentrations of the beam flange on the horizontal stiffener. Full-scale specimens were also tested cyclically to study hysteresis behavior. The main parameters used were the ratio of the T-stiffener to beam strength and the shape of the horizontal element. As the length of the horizontal element increased, the deformation capacity of the connections enhanced. Likewise, all specimens behaved according to the Ramberg-Osgood curve and showed stable hysteresis behavior.

This paper presents the results of a major parametric study on the collapse cause of the Sungsoo Grand Bridge, a Gerber-type continuous truss bridge, which had collapsed just at the 15th year since opening to traffic. Among the various collapse causes such as poor design, poor welding, poor maintenance, and heavy traffic loads, this study focuses on the collapse cause assessment incorporating the effects of braket and H-beam members right below the expansion joint of the suspended truss. A local FEM analysis using fine shell elements is carrided out for the more precise estimation of stress range of the vertical pin-connected hanger whose fatigue fracture triggered the collapse of the bridge. Both the conventional S-N approach and the Ang-Munse's fatigue reliability method are used for the evaluation of the fatigue life and fatigue failure probability for the assessment based on all the available results of various field and labolatory tests. From these observations, It may be affirmatively stated that the effects of bracket and H-beam members accelerated the fatigue failure, and thus should be regarded as one of major causes that triggered the bridge collapse
Recently deck crane of multi purpose cargo vessel (MPCV) is designed to posi¬tion in side instead of in the center line of the upper deck with a view to reduce the transportation cost and shipbuilding cost by shortening the length of ship. In this paper, the crane post was at first designed according to the crane maker’s specification and parent ship and the structure is analysed with Finite Ele¬ment Method. Through the careful reviews on the result of analysis, the final design of crane post was modified. The crane post is designed as a cylindrical in upper part and hexagonal in lower part instead of cylindrical on the whole as before. The connecting part of crane post is designed with the form of mixture of the cylinderical and hexagonal. Since the center of cylindrical and hexagonal section are not on the same line, it is expected to have the stress concentration. So, in order to attenuate the concentrated stress on the connecting part, the upper and lower parts was stiffened by inserting plate to enlarge the area of welding. The structure of deck part includes the tank side floor which is depend on the lower structure of the crane post that would support the force of the crane post by placing with 1.5 frame interval of the vertical plate.

The HR Plates made hot rolled coils is lower than general structural steel plates in price. No difference between general steel plates and HR Plates with thickness up to 22mm are found in most characters such as cutting operation, fabrication and even welding. It can be concluded that HR Plates with thickness up to 22mm can be applied to flanges and webs of any girders as well as longitudinal ribs, longitudinal and vertical stiffeners of steel bridges appropriately. To increase the demand of HR Plates with thickness up to 22mm, it is necessary that HR Plates is applicable to full member in steel bridge including main girder. In this study, availabilities of the narrow steel box girder of light railway transit with HR Plate width as a main member are discussed. For application of HR Plate to steel bridge with 50m span or more, new support systems in three types are presented. Computational analysis is performed in 15 bridge models of light railway transit with beam element and plate element. As a analysis results, three models in light railway transit are presented. We finally come to the conclusion that HR Plates can be apply to narrow steel box girder in the light railway transit.

This paper describes the study of the design procedure for the step-by-step setup parameters and of the magnetizing method for performance and size reduction in the development of a haptic vibrator. The study of magnetization was accomplished by comparing the electromagnetic force in accordance with the horizontal and the vertical magnetization. The theoretical results indicated that the horizontal magnetization resulted in a better performance. The systematic design of a step-by-step procedure for establishing the design parameters was verified by testing the characteristics of the fabricated prototype product. The vibration response function analysis and electric field analysis were processed by decoupling of the analytical method, and these were determined to be in good agreement with the test results. The design parameters to contributing to the product reliability included the spring height, the welding position, and the coil position. The sensitivity of the electromagnetic field and the performance change were analyzed based on the design parameters. As a result, we proposed a design method to implement a reliability-based, high performance haptic vibrator.

In this study, steel and FRP jackets are used to confine concrete cylinders. The FRP jacket behaviors compositely with concrete since there is bonding between them. However, the used steel jacket in this study do not behavior compositely with concrete since there is not an adhesive between them. The steel jackets are attached by external forces and the welding. This study suggests the measuring method of the axial strain for the confined concrete cylinders showing noncomposite behavior with the jackets and the correcting method of the measured strain for the composite-behavior jackets. For the noncomposite-behavior steel jacket, the axial strain of the steel surface does not represent the axial strain of the concrete inside. Also, a compressormeter can not be used. Thus, the two rigid plates at the top and bottom of a cylinder are placed and the distance of the two plates are measured and used for estimating the axial strain of the concrete. For the composite-behavior FRP jacket, the vertical strain measured on the FRP surface can be used for estimating the axial strain of the concrete. However, the vertical strain on the FRP surface contains the tensile strain due to the bulge of the concrete and, thus, the tensile strain should be corrected from the vertical strain. The corrected verticals strains compared with the measured strain or a existing constitute model; the result is satisfactory. The uncorrected stress-strain curves have the potential to under estimate the ductile behavior and the energy-dissipation-capacity of the composite-behavior FRP jackets.
The Reinforced subgrade for railroad (RSR) was constructed for one way railway line with the dimension of 5 m high, 6 m wide and 20 m long to evaluate its performance under train design load. The RSR has characteristics of short length (0.3-0.4 H) of reinforcement and rigid wall, 30 and 40 cm vertical spacing of reinforcement installation. To enhance economics and constructability, three kinds of connections (welding, hinge & bolt, bold wire) were also designed to realize the integration between rigid wall and reinforced subgrade. Two times of static loading tests were done on the full size railroad subgrade. The maximum applied pressure was 0.98 MPa (the maximum test load 5.88 MN), which corresponds to 19.6 times of the design load for railroad subgrade, 50 kPa. The performance on the RSR was evaluated with the safety on the failure, subgrade bearing capacity and settlement, horizontal displacement of wall, and reinforcement strain. Based on the full scale test, we confirmed that the RSR with the conditions of 0.35 H (35% of height) short reinforcement length, hinge & bolt type connection for integration between rigid wall and reinforced subgrade, and 40cm vertical spacing of reinforcement installment shows good performance under train design load.
The behavior of the connection for beam-to-column weak axis connection and its details should be identified. Thus, each element is considered a panel zone, and the horizontal stiffener's presence or absence and position in bracket-type welding connection are used as variables to compare the behavior of strong axis connection and weak axis connection. In this study, the strength of connection is calculated by substituting the simple beam-strengthened vertical stiffeners for connection in the presence of horizontal stiffeners. In the absence of horizontal stiffeners, the strength of connection can be calculated using local flange bending strength considering local web yielding strength, web crippling, and web buckling strength. The results of the theoretical analysis and experiments are compared.
