To establish the diagnosis and treatment plan for skeletal Class II malocclusion, patient's skeletal morphology, prognosis as well as the treatment effect is one of the important factor to consider. Therefore, the present study classified analyzed the difference between initial(T1) and after use of activator(T2), and after finish of direct multi-bonding system treatment(T3) for Class II malocclusion during growth period according to the treatment result(effective body length) and morphology of vertical skeletal type. The experimental group was classified into two groups(1 group, 2 group) according to the effective body length change between before and after use of activator, showed good treatment effect of activator for patient with small mandible and large differential between maxilla and mandible, and short anterior facial height. And the difference between 1 and 2 group in the experimental group before treatment(T1) disappeared in the finished treatment(T3). But in contrast, the initial difference of T1 stage between a and b group in the control group did not disappear in the finished treatment(T3). In short, experimental group's treatment effect was much better than contrast group and the treatment effect was maintained and got stable results at comparison experimental group with contrast group. Through this study, we can find activator's treatment effect and stable retention of that in growing Class II malocclusion patients. By estimate of activator treatment effect through these results, we can establish the correct diagnosis and treatment plan for adolescent Class II malocclusion estimate of activator treatment effect and lead the ideal facial growth pattern.
The present study was performed to prove the relationship between CO-CR discrepancy and facial skeletal type. In this study, 242 subjects were randomly selected and devided into 9 groups(devided into class I, II, III by ANB and each one devided into dolicho-, brachy-, mesofacial skeleton by Ricketts' vertical index). Lateral cephalometric radiographs with the mandible in centric occlusion were taken and measured and CO and CR bites were registered on all subjects. Diagnostic casts were mounted on Panadent articulator using an estimated face-bow and centric relation bite registration. The amount and direction of CO-CR discrepancy present was recorded using a Condylar Position Indicator(CPI) and a centric occlusion wax bite registration. CPI measurements and cephalometric measurements were statistically analyzed. The finding of this study can be summerized as follows : 1. There is little correlation between right and left sides for magnitude or direction of CO-CR discrepancies. The correlation between the magnitude of CO-CR discrepancy of left A-P and right A-P is higher than that of left S-I and right S-I. 2. Correlation of Class II malocclusion group was higher than that of the other groups between the magnitude of CO-CR discrepancy of left CPI and right CPI. 3. There is no difference between the pattern of CO-CR discrepancy of 9 malocclusion groups. 4. There is very little, if any, correlation between Skeletofacial measurements and CO-CR discrepancy. 5. In Class II brachyfacial skeleton and Class III mesofacial skeleton there was Lateral cephalometric measurements by that we predict CPI measurements was detected. That was overbite, overjet, upper genial angle, lower genial angle, saddle angle, articular angle, convexity of point A, ANS-Me/Na-Me, PCBL/RH, Posterior FH/anterior FH.

The purpose of this retrospective study was to estimate the pretreatment characteristics of growing patients with Class II malocclusion. who had been treated with maxillary second molar extractions The sample comprised of 51 subjects; 18 subjects were classified into the molar extraction group, and 33 subjects were treated without extraction and classified into the nonextraction group. Pretreatment lateral cephalograms were calculated and analyzed by independent t-test and stepwise discriminant analysis. In measurements for skeletal pattern, no anteroposterior measurements and proportions of various vertical dimensions were significantly different. and only some measurements such as $AB-MP(^{\circ)$, Na-We(mm), AVD (mm) were significantly different between the two treatment groups (p<0.05). In measurements for dentoalveolar pattern. some measurements, which were related to the position and angulation of the upper and lower permanent first molars, and the angulation of the upper third molars, were significantly different between the two treatment groups In particular, the maxillary second molar extraction group exhibited more mesial angulation of maxillary first molar to the occlusal plane.

The aim of this study was to enhancing the panoramic radiograph's clinical use for assessing mandibular measurements and formulating a function of those measurements from panoramic radiographs and lateral cephalograms in children. The panoramic radiographs and lateral cephalograms of 99 former orthodontic patients with skeletal class III malocclusion were selected. In each radiograph, gonial angles, ramus heights, and distance between lower incisors and symphysis were measured. The values of the studied parameters were compared by paired t-test, Pearson's correlation test and regression analysis. The mean value of the gonial angle in panoramic radiographs was $125.49^{\circ}$, and the value in lateral cephalograms was $127.50^{\circ}$. The Pearson's correlation coefficient (${\rho}$) between mean values of gonial angle in each radiograph was 0.945 (p < 0.001). The relationship between the gonial angle measurements obtained from each radiographs was represented as 'Gonial angle (Lateral cephalograms) = 0.920 ${\times}$ Average gonial angle (Panoramic radiographs) + 12.072' in the linear function. The coefficients of ramus heights, and distance between lower incisors and symphysis portrayed weaker correlations than gonial angles. A panoramic radiograph could be used to determine the gonial angle as accurately as a lateral cephalogram, and each gonial angle showed a strong positive relation. A panoramic radiograph is a useful tool for examining vertical growth pattern of patients, as well as a lateral cephalogram.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes of mandibular movement and muscle activity following orthognathic surgery in patients with mandibular prognathism. Lateral cephalogram, M.K.G., E.M.G. recordings were obtained immediately before surgery, and 2 months and 8 months after surgery. Among the patients who received orthognathic surgery, 19(13 men, 6 women) were selected for this study. Statistical analysis for each time interval differences were performed with the SPSS package. The results were as follows: 1. Compared with the pre-operative group (opening 349.7mm/sec, closing 313.1mm/sec), the mean values of the maximum opening and closing velocity in the skeletal Class III surgery group were significantly decreased in the 2 months post-operative (opening 232.9mm/sec, closing 206.9mm/sec), but the values tended to increase in the 8 months post-operative group (opening 280.9 mm/sec, closing 319.1mm/sec). 2. Compared with the pre-operative group (61.7 mm/sec), the maximum velocity of the terminal tooth contact increased in the 2 months (72mm/sec) and 8 months (105.7mm/sec) postoperative groups. 3. In the mean value of vertical freeway space, there was significant difference between the normal group and the pre-operative group, but not between the normal group and the 8 months post-operative group. 4. In the mean values of the maximum opening, the maximum anterio-posterior movement from centric-occlusion, and the lateral deviation from centric occlusion, there was no significant difference between the normal group and the surgery group (the pre-operative and the 8 months post-operative groups). 5. The mature swallowing pattern was 58% in the pre-operative group, but 90% in the 2 months post-operative group, and 63% in the 8 months post-operative group. 6. In the comparison of muscle activity, there was no significant difference between the normal group and the surgery group during the rest position. However, during cotton roll clenching, there was significant difference between the normal group and the pre-operative group, but not between the normal group and the 8 months post-operative group.
The present study hypothesized that the double keyhole looped archwire plays a positive role for the sake of translatory movement and/or controlled tipping of upper 6 anteriors, and secures anchorage control as well. The purposes of the study were to evaluate the changes in lateral cephalograms during orthodontic treatment with DKHLs and to compare the skeletal & dental changes before- & after-treatment. The materials of this study were lateral cephalograms of 20 adult patients with upper dentoalveolar protrusion both in class I and in class II Division1 malocclusion. Lateral cephalograms were taken before and after orthodontic treatment with upper 1st bicuspid extraction and DKHLs. The results were obtained as follows : 1. There were no statistically significant differences in skeletal measurement except SNB and PTFH between before- & after-treatment. The major changes were in dentoalveolar region. 2. After treatment, there were statistically significant decrease in dental measurement except interincisal angle. 3. Both upper & lower lip protrusion was decreased. 4. There were statistically differences in upper anterior crown horizontal & root vertical dimension(7.08 ${\pm}$ 2.14 mm, 2.38 ${\pm}$ 1.15 mm, p<0.01). 5. There were statistically differences in upper posterior dental(both crown & root) horizontal dimension(2.48 ${\pm}$ 0.99 mm, 2.05 ${\pm}$ 0.91 mm, p<0.01).
This study was designed to evaluate the correlations between the morphology and growth of cranial base and the position of nasomaxillary complex and mandible in complete unilateral cleft lip and palate patients. Craniofacial skeletal morphology Pattern was analyzed on the lateral cephalometric radiographs of the 100 subjects of complete unilateral cleft lip and palate group and the 100 normal grower group and each group was divided three sub-groups by age-range like spheno-ethmoidal synchodrosis growing group, spheno-occipital synchondrosis growing group and finished synchondrosis growth group. These data were statistically analyzed to examine significant difference between both groups and between each sub-groups. The results of this study were as follows: 1. In complete unilateral cleft group, the length, thickness of clivus, and the rate of increase in length of clivus showed smaller amount by adolescence. The anterior length of cranial base and the rotation pattern of clivus with age showed no significant difference between two group. 2. In complete unilateral cleft group, nasomaxillary complex were located more posteriorly. This difference between two groups is larger by adolescent group than adult. Vertical position showed no significant difference between two groups. There was significant correlation between the cranial base of cleft group and the horizontal measurements(p<0.01). PtmS showed no significant increment in cleft group. This showed the deficiency of growth in posterior part of maxilla. 3. In mandible, there was no significant difference between normal group and complete unilateral cleft group but articular angle showed significantly smaller in cleft group than in normal one. And the measurements of nasomaxillary complex position, cranial base and the position of mandible had significant correlation(p<0.01).
To evaluate the relapse pattern and long-term stabilities depanding on surgical methods following orthognathic surgery of Cl III patients, the author selected 24 subjects(10 male, 14 female) operated by SSRO and 26 subjects(10 male,16 female) operated by IVRO. Each subject took four lateral cephalograms : just before surgery(T1), within 48hrs after surgery(T2), 4-8 wks after surgery(T3), 6 month or more after surgery(T4), and the landmarks were digitized. The differences of relapse patterns in each interval between two groups were compared and the significance of correlation among the variables of each group was tested. The obtained results are as follows ; 1. Horizontal early relapse was forward movement of mandible in SSRO group, as compared to the backward movement in IVRO group, and there was a statistical significance between the two groups. 2. Vertical early and late relapses were decreases in anterior facial height in both groups and there was no statistical significance between the two groups. 3. There was a statistical significance in negative correlation between mandibular horizontal late relapse and surgical change of articular angle in SSRO group. 4. There was a statistical significance in negative correlation between amount of mandibular set-back and mandibular horizontal early relapse in both groups.
