Population growth and urbanization prompted engineers to propose more sophisticated and efficient transportation methods, such as underground transit systems. However, due to limited urban space, it is necessary to construct these tunnels in close proximity to existing infrastructure like high-rise buildings and bridges. Battered piles have been widely used for their higher stiffness and bearing capacity compared to vertical piles, making them effective in resisting lateral loads from winds, soil pressures, and impacts. Considerable prior research has been concerned with understanding the vertical pile response to tunnel excavation. However, the three-dimensional effects of tunnelling on adjacent battered piled foundations are still not investigated. This study investigates the response of a single battered pile to tunnelling at three critical depths along the pile: near the pile shaft (S), next to the pile (T), and below the pile toe (B). An advanced hypoplastic model capable of capturing small strain stiffness is used to simulate clay behaviour. The computed results reveal that settlement and load transfer mechanisms along the battered pile, resulting from tunnelling, depend significantly on the tunnel's location relative the length of the pile. The largest settlement of the battered pile occurs in the case of T. Conversely, the greatest pile head deflection is caused by tunnelling near the pile shaft. The battered pile experiences "dragload" due to negative skin friction mobilization resulting from tunnel excavation in the case of S. The battered pile is susceptible to induced bending moments when tunnelling occurs near the pile shaft S whereas the magnitude of induced bending moment is minimal in the case of B.
As the connection between spread footing and pile is very important structural connection, it acts as the inter-loading medium to transfer the rail loads applied by superstructure to ground through the body pile of foundation. The experimental study is the method how to reinforce the pile cap between steel pile and footing utilizing perfobond plate with protruding keys. It were experimented on the compression punching tests and bending moment tests against the vertical loading and horizontal loadings acting on head of steel tube pipe. As a result, the tension capacity of the perfobond plate exhibited the superior performance due to the interlocking or dowel effects by the sheared keys of perfobond plate, and there were showing the sufficient strength and ductile capacity against the bending moment of horizontal loading tests. Therefore, it is judged that "the embedded method of perfobond plate in pile cap and footing" which is utilizing the shear connection of perfobond plate with protruding keys has a sufficient structural stability enough to be replaced with the current specification of reinforced method of pile cap with vertically deformed rebar against the vertical compression loads and bending moments that are able to occur in the combination structure of steel pile and the footing foundation.
The behavior of a piled raft system in multi-layered soil subjected to vertical loading has been studied numerically using 3D finite element analysis. Initially, the 3D finite element model has been validated by analytically simulating the field experiments conducted on vertically loaded instrumented piled raft. Subsequently, a comprehensive parametric study has been conducted to assess the performance of a combined piled raft system in terms of optimum pile spacing and settlement of raft and piles, in multi-layered soil stratum subjected to vertical loading. It has been found that a combined pile raft system can significantly reduce the total settlement as well as the differential settlement of the raft in comparison to the raft alone. Two different arrangements below the piled raft with the same pile numbers show a significant amount of increase of load transfer of piled raft system, which is in line with the load transfer mechanism of a piled raft. A methodology for the factor of safety assessment of a combined pile raft foundation has been presented to improve the performance of piled raft based on its serviceability requirements. The findings of this study could be used as guidelines for achieving economical design for combined piled raft systems.

There are many demands for vertical extension construction method in domestic large cities. In this paper, we analyzed and presented the results of examining the cases of ground floor extension and basement extension using the jack pile method. Since the Jack Pile method presses in all the piles without excavating the ground, the bearing capacity of the all the piles can be checked. It was investigated as a safe construction method unlike other small-diameter pile construction methods during underground extension.
A finite element analysis has been conducted to clarify the behaviour of a single pile in heaving ground related to ground excavation. The numerical analysis has included soil slip at the pile-soil interface, analysing the interaction between the pile and the clay has been studied. The study includes the upward movement of the pile, the relative shear displacement between the pile and the soil and the shear stresses at the interface and the axial force on the pile. In particular, the shear stress transfer mechanism at the pile-soil interface related to a decrease in the vertical soil stress has been rigorously analysed. Due to the reductions in the vertical soil stress after excavation, the relative shear displacement and the shear stress along the pile have been changed. Upward shear stress developed at most part of the pile (Z/L=0.0-0.8), while downward shear stress is mobilized near the pile tip (Z/L=0.8-1.0) resulting in tensile force on the pile, where Z is the pile location and L is the pile length. Some insights into the pile behaviour in heaving ground analysed from the numerical analyses has been reported.
In this study, the axial stiffness of existing piles (Kve) of vertical extension remodeled building was quantified through theoretical and experimental approaches. Theoretically induced upper and lower boundary of the pile axial stiffness was estimated by using the formula proposed by Randolph and Wroth (1978), which can estimate the axial stiffness of rigid and flexible pile subjected under soil confinement. In addition, 38 cases of field measurement data on deteriorated piles with various diameters constructed in the period between 1995 - 1997 were taken in to account by overlapping the field data with the theoretical boundary of the axial stiffness. Through this the maximum axial stiffness of existing pile due to deterioration and long service time was presented for various slenderness ratio (L/D), which can be used in estimating the necessary axial stiffness of reinforcing piles(Kvr) for the vertical extension remodeling. The lower 95% value of the estimated axial stiffness of existing pile will be induced through statistical processing.

The demand for underground infrastructures such as tunnels is expanding due to rapid urbanization. Tunnels in urban areas are usually constructed adjacent to structures supported by piles. Therefore, a proper understanding of pile-tunnel interaction due to tunnel excavation activities is vital. Thus, in this study, a numerical analysis is conducted to analyze pile settlements, ground surface settlements and shear deformations above an existing tunnel subject to the presence of an adjacent tunnelling, with vertical offsets, the number of piles and the pile spacing considered as variables in the analysis. The results show that the vertical offsets between the tunnel crown and the pile tip generatelarger settlement than the pile spacing. In addition, the vertical offset shows an inversely proportional relationship to the shear deformation due to new tunnelling.

During an earthquake, there are three main components of excitation : horizontal excitation of the ground, vertical excitation of the pile due to superstructure feedback produced by vertical excitation of the ground, and the seawater excitation induced by the vertical ground shaking, that is, "the seaquake." These excitations could have effects on the soil plugs in open-ended pie piles installed at offshore sites. In this study, seaquake excitation induced by the vertical ground shaking was simulated by pulsing the water pressure at the seabed. During a seaquake, due to the induced excess porewater pressure and pressure gradients in the soil, the capacity of open-ended pipe piles installed in a simulated sea depth of greate than 220 m was reduced serevely and the soil plugging resistance was degraded by more than 80% The soil plug was failed because of eh upward seepage forces that developed in the soil plug due to excess pore water pressure produced in the bottom of the soil plug during the seaquake, The compressive capacity of ar open-ended pile in a simulated sea depth of less than 220 m was reduced only by about 10% and the soil plug resistance was degraded by less than 5%.s than 5%.

In this study, three-dimensional finite element analysis was used to analyze the behavior of existing and reinforcing piles according to the pile support conditions for vertical extension remodeling. Cap support conditions (group pile, piled raft foundation) and pile tip conditions (rock, soil embedment) were considered as factors influencing existing and reinforcing piles behavior. For the quantitative analysis of existing and reinforcing piles, the displacement, load distribution ratio, and axial force by depth according to the analysis stage were analyzed. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the largest settlement occurred in the reinforcing pile due to the pre-loading method. In particular, a large amount of settlement occurred in group piles regardless of the embedment conditions. In the piled raft foundation, it was confirmed that the displacement and load distribution ratio of existing piles and reinforcing piles were reduced due to the influence of the raft. The axial force by depth showed a difference between group pile and piled raft foundation, which appears to be a major factor affecting displacement and load distribution ratio. Based on the numerical analysis results, it was confirmed that cap support conditions and pile tip embedment conditions should be considered in the design of pile foundations for vertical extension remodeling.
This study presents the application of the numerical and analytical technique to simulate the Load Distribution Ratio (LDR) and to define axial stiffness on reinforcing pile foundation ($K_{vr}$) in vertical extension remodeling structure. The main objective of this study was to investigate the LDR between existing piles and reinforcing piles. Therefore, to analyze the LDR, 3D FEM analysis was performed as variable for elastic modulus, pile end-bearing condition, raft contacts, and relative position of reinforcing pile in a group. Also, using the axial stiffness ($K_{ve}$) of existing piles, the axial stiffness of reinforcing pile was defined by 3D approximate computer-based method, YSPR (Yonsei Piled Raft). In addition $K_{vr}$ was defined by reducing the $K_{ve}$considering the degradation of the existing piles.
