Recently, fluidized bed heat exchangers with circulating liquid are widely used in a number of places-chemical, process, food concentration, waste water treatment facilities, etc. In a circulating heat exchanger, solid particles circulate with the liquid, thereby increase the heat transfer and reduce the fouling potential of the heat exchanger. In this study, glass beads were circulated through a vertical tube. The pressure loss and the heat transfer coefficient were measured. At low flow velocities, glass beads enhanced the heat transfer considerably. The enhancement increased as the volume fraction of the glass beads increased. The pressure loss showed a similar trend. From the observed particle behavior near tube wall, a possible explanation of the trend is provided.
Experiments were performed to study freezing on a finned vertical tube when either conduction in the solid or natural convection in a liquid controls the heat transfer. Conduction is the controlling mode when the liquid is at its fusion temperature, whereas natural convection controls when the liquid temperature is above the fusion value. The liquid was housed in a cylinderical containment vessel whose surface was maintained at a uniform, time-invariment temperature during a data run, and the freezing occurred on a finned vertical tube positioned along the axis of the vessel. The phase change medium was n-octacosan, a paraffin which freezes at about $61^{\circ}C$. For conduction-controlled freezing, the enhancement of the frozen mass due to finning is greatest when the frozen layer is thin and decrease as the layer grows thicker. The degree of enhancement is generally less than the surface area ratio of the finned and unfinned tube.

It is known that the heat and mass transfer characteristics in the absorber are most sensitive of the temperature boost of all the heat exchangers and the development of a more efficient absorber should be highly important. This paper describes absorption experiments made with different inside tube diameters, tube length and tube shapes. The purpose of this study is to acquire basic knowledge about heat and mass transfer in a falling film type absorber with vertical inner tubes. Heat and mass transfer were measured for water vapor absorption into a Lithium Bromide-water solution flowing down an absorber of vertical inner tubes. As a result, insert spring tube compares bare tube and heat transfer improved by order of insert spring tube P2(pitch 20 mm) and P1(pitch 10 mm).
Experiment and numerical investigation are performed on swirling water flow in a vertical circular tube. This kind of flow is used in heat exchangers, combustion chambers, thermal power plants, and other mechanical equipment to move slurries or to convey materials. However, limited information on swirling flow in vertical circular tubes is available. In the current paper, the three-dimensional particle image velocimetry(PIV) technique is employed to compare the measured velocity profiles of water along the vertical circular tube with those of non-swirl flow. In addition, computational fluid dynamics(CFD) code was applied to calculation of the flow velocities with swirl.
The free convection in a vertical tube open at both ends and heated at the heated at the wall is studied by analytical approach and checked by experiment. The flow is assumed to be both stable and laminar. The incompressible boundary layer equations fot the system were solved by a finite difference method for conditions of constant wall temperature and conctant wall heat flux. Temperature profiles of the flow in the tube were measured by thermocouples and are compared with the calculated profiles. Agreement of the analytical and experimental results was good.
Background: Montgomery T-tube is widely used to maintain airway in many cases. Market-available tubes are not always fit to the trachea of each patient and need some modification such as trimming. Complications do happen in prolonged use like tracheostomy tubes. To overcome above limitations, we designed custom-made T-tube using CT data with the aid of 3D reconstruction software. Material and Method: Boundaries were extracted from neck CT data of normal person and processed by surface rendering methods. Real laryngotracheal model and tracheal inner surface-mimicking tube model were made with plaster and rubber. The main tube was designed by accumulation of circles or simple closed curves made from boundaries. Stomal tube was made by accumulation of squares due to limitation of software. Measurement data of tracheal lumen were used to custom-made T-tubes. Tracheal lumen residing portion (vertical limb) was made like circular cylinder or simple closed curved cylinder. Stomal portion (horizontal limb) was designed like square cylinder. Results: Custom made T-tube with cylindric vertical limb and horizontal limb of square cylinder was designed. Conclusion: CT data was helpful in making custom made T-tube with 3D reconstruction technique. If suitable materials are available, commercial T-tube can be printed out from 3D printers.
In order to clarify the effect of tube orientation on pool boiling heat transfer, the experiments were carried out for the saturated pool boiling of water at atmospheric pressure. Through the tests a series of data sets for heat flux versus wall superheat has been obtained using various combinations of tube diameters (D=9.7 $\~$25.4mm), surface roughness ($\varepsilon$=15.1$\~$60.9nm), and tube orientations (horizontal and vertical). ηei experimental results show that the slope of heat flux versus wall superheat becomes smaller than that of the horizontal tube as the surface roughness decreases from $\varepsilon$=60.9 to $\varepsilon$=15.1nm. Such that, two curves for the horizontal and vertical tubes cross each other in accordance with surface roughness and the crossing point can be suggested as q" = ‘-4.768+1.334$\varepsilon$+0.055${\varepsilon}^2$.
Laminar natural convection heat transfer from a horizontal heat exchanger tube with one infinitely long vertical plate fin has been studied by a finite-difference numerical procedure. In predicting convective heat transfer from a circular tube, the thermal boundary condition at solid fluid interface is usually assumed to be isothermal. However, in reality, the thermal boundary condition is not isothermal, and the tube has the thickness and the conductivity. So the temperature at the interface is not known a priori to the calculation. This problem has the conjugate phenomena which occur between the tube conduction and external natural convection, and between the fin conduction and external natural convection. Numerical results are obtained to determine the effects of the conductivity of solid wall and the thickness of tube wall on heat transfer. It is found that the conduction causes significant influence on the natural convection heat transfer at low K and high ${\delta}$.
