  • Pulmonary veins (PVs) and their myocardial sleeves play an important role in the development of atrial fibrillation. Hence, detailed knowledge of PV anatomy is required to improve the procedural success rate and prevent complications during cardiac procedures. The aim of this study was to evaluate the PV anatomy along with anatomical variations in the Indian population. Total 100 formalin fixed cadaveric hearts were examined. The number and pattern of the PVs were observed along with the measurement of their horizontal and vertical diameters. The ovality index for each PV was calculated. Classical PV pattern was observed in 62% cases. Variant pattern like additional right middle PV pattern and left common PV pattern were found in 20% and 10% cases respectively. A separate pattern with presence of both right middle PV and left common PV was observed in 6% cases. In the classical pattern right superior PV was the largest followed by right inferior, left superior and left inferior PV. The additional right middle PV had the smallest diameter whereas the left common PV had the largest diameter. Almost all the veins had greater vertical diameters in comparison to horizontal diameters. The variant PVs were oval and had greater ovality index compared to the normal PVs. In classical pattern 54.8% hearts whereas in variant pattern 79% hearts had one or more oval PV. The given data can help clinicians for planning and execution of various interventional and electrophysiological procedures involving PVs.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of building integrated PV application method on power generation. PV modules were integrated to a hypothetical apartment building facade in Seoul, Korea. Three different design options of PV panel mounted on exterior wall were developed for the analysis of cooling effects through ventilation. Numerical simulations using TRNSYS coupled with COMIS were executed to evaluate the design options. Their facade configurations are such as vertically installed PV panels with or without air gap between PV rear surface and exterior wall surface, and the tilted PV panels attached to the exterior wall at an angle of to the horizontal. Parametric results show that there is little difference regardless of the air 9ap width between PV rear surface and exterior wall surface. Special strategies which could effectively cool a PV panel to increase the electric power are required if we prefer to a vertical facade configuration in a building integrated PV installation. Consequently, it is expected that there is no reason for architect to install vertically PV panels with air gap unless active strategies are considered.

  • The PV-Solarwall system has been introduced as a promising alternative to harness solar energy for both heating applications and electricity generation simultaneously. The system comprises a PV solar panel(for electricity generation). In addition, the solarwall incorporates a fan strategically located behind the PV panel to bring the warm and fresh air from the solarwall into the room. Because of its location and convective cooling principle, the fan also serves to reduce the operating temperature of the PV panel thereby increasing its efficiency. So this PV-Solarwall system holds much promise for saving heating and electricity costs compared with a PV system without solarwall. In particular, by controlling the tilt angle of the entire PV-Solarwall system between $0^{\circ}$(horizontal) and $90^{\circ}$(vertical), the performance of the system can be further evaluated. It is expected that the range of tilt angle PV-Solarwall between $40^{\circ}$ and $50^{\circ}$ will improve the output of the system.

  • Building Integrated PV(BIPV) is one of the best fascinating PV application technologies. To apply PV module in building, various factors should be reflected such as installation position, shading, temperature, and so on. Especially the installation condition should be considered, for the generation performance of PV module is changed or the generation loss is appeared according to installation position, method, and etc. This study investigates variation of electrical characteristics of a PV module according to the change of irradiance and temperature. From this experimental study, we confirmed that the irradiance, the temperature variation and the generation performance of a PV module were appeared differently according seasonal variation. Actually the PV module installed in building facade showed high-generation performance in winter.

  • This study aimed to investigate the feasibility and potential applications of utilizing bifacial photovoltaic (PV) panels from an architectural perspective. It also aimed to establish a foundational dataset for installation and operational guidelines for bifacial PV panels through a comparative analysis of energy production performance with single PV panels. The research encompassed several key steps, including a comprehensive literature review, calculation of solar surface radiation values, development of datasets for bifacial and single PV energy production, and a performance comparison between both approaches. The results of the study show that bifacial PV panels exhibit optimized energy production capabilities within the range of 40 to 80 degrees, contingent upon the specific installation location. Consequently, it is recommended that the installation of bifacial PV panels in Korea should primarily focus on southwest-to-west orientation. Furthermore, it was concluded that bifacial PV panels could contribute an equivalent or even superior level of energy production compared to single PV panels, even if their performance exhibited a marginally lower efficiency of 2% to 5% with an 18% power generation efficiency.

  • Photovoltaics (PV) is gaining attention as an alternative energy source to fossil fuels. Although the demand for PV is increasing, it requires more than three times the space compared to conventional power generation, leading to limtation of available land for PV installations. Agrivoltaics is combined with agriculture and solar power generation at the same space, making it highly efficient in terms of land use. This review explores various forms of agrivoltaics systems currently being researched and examines the relationship between energy production and agricultural productivity in these systems. With agrivoltaics, about 70-80% of the energy production of conventional solar power can be achieved, while agricultural yields can reach up to 90% of those produced through conventional farming methods.

  • This paper is an experimental study on shear capacity of the high strength R/C beams with a shear span-depth ratio between 1.5 and 2.5. a total of 15 beams was tested to determine diagonal cracking and ultimate shear strength. The major variables are shear span-depth ratio (a/d=1.5, 2.0. 2.5) , vertical shear reinforcements ratio(Vs = 0 , 25, 50, 75, 100% ( Vs = Pv/Pv(ACI)), and concrete compressive strength (f'c= 747㎏/㎠). Test results indicate that ACI 318-89 Eq(11-31) generally underestimates shear strength carried by vertical shear reinforcements, and the mode of failure may change from shear tension to shear compression for the beams having higher Vs than 75%, thus the effectiveness of r-fy on ultimate shear strength (vu) decreased.

  • The verified thermal efficiency, thermal capacity confirmed the effects of the cooling system. Therefore, it is useful for preventing the PV cell temperature rising when solar radiation accumulates in summer. When adopting a hybrid panel for the BIPV system, the affected areas include the vertical outside walls facing the south, southeast, and southwest on the curtain walls excluding windows. The standards on replace aluminum panel which were the popular exterior material were investigated, Designing practice made sure that it could be manufactured in various sizes, and confirmed the most proper method to install a hybrid panel in the BIPV system.
