  • A spent nuclear fuel (SNF) analysis module for the Vodo-Vodyanoi Energetichesky Reactor (VVER) was developed and validated in this study. This advancement expands the application area of the existing nodal diffusion code, RAST-V, and reduces the need for additional code during 3D core simulations for SNF analysis, leading to increased efficiency in simulation time. RAST-V uses Lagrange interpolation and a power correction factor derived from the Bateman equation to bypass the re-depletion calculations, which are used to solve the microdepletion chain. This approach improved the efficiency of analysis. To mirror the conditions during the 3D core simulations, the module used history indices related to the moderator temperature, fuel temperature, and boron concentration. The module can predict 1620 isotopes. This paper presents the validation of this isotope inventory prediction and the application of burnup credit. The VVER analysis module was validated using 28 samples discharged from the Novovoronezh-4. Most isotopes were within 10 % of the boundaries of the measurements. This study successfully offers verification results using VVER benchmarks and discusses the application of burnup credit using a VVER-440 cask.

  • In order to improve the safety of nuclear power plant, we performed a human factors review for the CFMS(Critical Function Monitoring system) design of nuclear power plant. Three works were performed in this study. In first work, we developed human factors engineering program plan(HFEPP) and human factors engineering verification and validation plan (HFE-V & V plan) to effectively perform CFMS design and review. In second work, we identified human engineering discrepancies(HEDs) for CFMS design through human factors design review and proposed those resolutions. In the third work, we developed the evaluation and management methodology for identified KEDs. Methodology developed in this study can be used in other complex system as well as in CFMS design review.

  • Software inspection is widely believed to be an effective method for software verification and validation (V&V). However, software inspection is labor-intensive and, since it uses little technology, software inspection is viewed upon as unsuitable for a more technology-oriented development environment. Nevertheless, software inspection is gaining in popularity. KAIST Nuclear I&C and Information Engineering Laboratory (NICIEL) has developed software management and inspection support tools, collectively named "SIS-RT. "SIS-RT is designed to partially automate the software inspection processes. SIS-RT supports the analyses of traceability between a given set of specification documents. To make SIS-RT compatible for documents written in Korean, certain techniques in natural language processing have been studied [9]. Among the techniques considered, case grammar is most suitable for analyses of the Korean language [3]. In this paper, we propose a methodology that uses a case grammar approach to analyze the traceability between documents written in Korean. A discussion regarding some examples of such an analysis will follow.

  • Nowadays, railroads are considered the most efficient form of mass transportation. Furthermore, it is necessary that railroads be paired with state-of-the-art safety equipment. Unfortunately, it is impossible to prevent 100% of accidents that may be caused by system or human errors. In order to prevent future accidents, RAMS activity and Functional Safety Certification are required for new systems that are under development. In this paper we evaluate the necessity of the application of RAMS and the performance of RAMS in the system development process. We also explore the Safety Evaluation Procedure required for RAMS certification.

  • High-speed military aircraft shall be able to identify and resolve enemy threats or internal component defects with survival equipment and warning systems to minimize casualties. Warning system is divided into visual method with symbolic display and auditory method with communication equipment, which is superior in that they it has a short response time and does not cause pilot confusion by listening to simple messages. Thus, this paper suggested and evaluated effective design methods of voice/tone warning systems for military aircraft based on a life cycle perspective. Since military aircraft is safety-sensitive, priorities and three properties(Inhibitible, Interruptible, and Deactivatable) were applied to each warning to reflect criticality and urgency. As a result, we confirmed that it took 40ms to play the voice warnings, satisfying all requirements through V model-based development and testing, and improving product reliability.

  • Ship Standard Network was submitted as a common subject of e-navigation by 81th IMO MSC 2005. This agenda was given an official status with strategy planning of e-navigation for Ship Standard Network after approval of WG program of 81th MSC 2006. Nowadays approximately 400 heterogeneous navigation and communication equipments are working on ships at sea. Standardization of ship network is to support exchanging various data efficiently. Among them, 4S network is defined as a wireless communication network between ship to ship and ship to shore which provides unceasing communication channel ship to shore. It has been expected to trigger various services and applications based on 4S network. However, no technologies and products has been appeared at fields yet. but now there's not specific technologies and developing products. In this paper, We developed a 4S multiple media switching server and a ship-land information exchange system to overcome the heterogeneity and provide efficient communication environments.. The performance of the implemented system was verified by TTA(Telecommunications Technology Association) V&V(Verification and Validation).

  • Successful development of weapon systems requires a stringent verification and validation (V&V) process due to the nature of the weapons in which continual increase of operational capability makes the system requirements more complicated to meet. Thus, test and evaluation (T&E) of weapon systems is becoming more difficult. In such a situation, live fire tests appear to be effective and useful methods in not only carrying out V&V of the weapon systems under development, but also increasing the maturity of the end users operability of the system. However, during the process for live fire tests, a variety of accidents or mishaps can happen due to explosion, pyro, separation, and so on. As such, appropriate means to mitigate mishap possibilities should be provided and applied during the live fire tests. To study a way of how to accomplish it is the objective of this paper. To do so, top-level sources of hazard are first identified. A framework for T&E is also described. Then, to enhance the test range safety, it is discussed how test scenarios can be generated. The proposed method is based on the use of the anticipatory failure determination (AFD) and multiple event tree analysis (ETA) in analyzing range safety. It is intended to identify unexpected hazard components even in the environment with constraints. It is therefore expected to reduce accident possibilities as an alternative to the traditional root-cause analysis.

  • The use of computers as part of nuclear safety systems elicits additional requirements-software verification and validation (v/v), hardware qualification-not specifically addressed in general industry fields. The computer used in nuclear power plants is a system that includes computer hardware, software, firmware, and interfaces. To develop the computer systems graded with nuclear safety class, the developing environments have to be required in advance and the developed software have to be verified and validated in accordance with nuclear code and standards. With this requirements, the test facility for Inadequate Core Cooling Monitoring System (ICCMS) as one of safety systems in the nuclear power plants was developed. The test facility consists of three(3) parts such as Input/Output (I/O) simulator, Plant Data Acqusition System (PDAS) cabinets and supervisory computer. The performance of the system was validated by manual test procedure.

  • It is very important to track whether software is properly developed according to requirements. This study suggests a method to track requirements by using a tracking table. In this study, the tracking table indicates why such requirements are included by detailing the content of requests for proposals and proposals. The table also facilitates verification of the consistency between outputs and the integrity by having ID codes of each requirement mapped to each output. Furthermore, as this study was conducted, it was found that some factors were required to be added or supplemented to the outputs at the requirement gathering stage of MaRMI-Ⅲ v.4.0 methodology. Thus, this study seeks to present this additional result along with the enhanced tracking table. By verifying outputs, the tracking table presented in this study will help to reduce all kinds of risks and problems that may occur in software development due to the lack of management of requirements. In addition, the output of the requirement-gathering stage of MaRMI-Ⅲ v.4.0 methodology will be improved/supplemented according to the creation of tracking tables; this will increment the applicability of the MaRMI-III methodology.
