수직구조물 후방의 와류현상이 구조물에 설치된 벤투리관의 유체가속 효과에 미치는 영향에 관한 해석 연구 (Effect of Rear-Vortex of a Convergent-Divergent Duct on the Flow Acceleration Installed in a Vertical Structure)

  • A convergent-divergent nozzle or venturi nozzle has been used to accelerate the wind speed at its throat. The wind speed at the throat is inversely proportional to its area according to the continuity equation. In this numerical study, an airflow phenomena in the venturi system placed at a vertical structure was investigated to understand the vortex effect occurred at the rear-side of the vertical structure on the air speed increment at the throat of the venturi system. For this study, a venturi system sized by $20(m){\times}20(m){\times}6(m)$ was modelled and the area ratio(AR) of the model venturi was 2.86. To see the vortex effect on the air flow acceleration in the venturi throat, two different boundary conditions was defined From the study, it was found that the pressure coefficient(CP) of the venturi system with the vortex formed at the exit of the venturi was about 2.5times of the CP of the venturi system without the vortex effect. The velocity increment rate of the venturi system with the vortex was 61% but 9.5% only at the venturi system without the vortex. Conclusively, it can be said that the venturi system installed in a vertical structure has very positive effect on the flow acceleration at its throat due to the vortex formed at the rear-side of the vertical structure.

Effect of Venturi System on Acceleration of Low-speed Water Flow at the Venturi Throat Installed at the Inlet of Hydro Turbine

  • For a hydro turbine electricity generation system in river or bay, a venturi system could be applied to accelerate flow speed at the inlet of the turbine system in a flow field. In this study, a steady flow simulation was conducted to understand the effect of venturi system on the acceleration of current speed at the inlet of a hydro turbine system. According to the continuity equation, the flow speed is inversely proportional to the cross-section area in a conduit flow; however, it would be different in an open region because the venturi system would be an obstruction in the flow region. As the throat area is 1/5 of the inlet area of the venturi, the flow velocity is accelerated up to 2.1 times of the inlet velocity. It is understood that the venturi system placed in an open flow region gives resistance to the upcoming flow and disperses the flow energy around the venturi system. The result of the study should be very important information for an optimum design of a hydro turbine electricity generation system.

원뿔형 벤츄리수로의 수리특성 (Hydraulic Characteristics in the Movable Venturi Flume with Circular Cone)

  • This study analyzed the hydraulic characteristics of a venturi flume with a circular cone using a 3-D numerical model which uses RANS(Reynolds-Averaged Navier-Stokes Equation) as the governing equation. The venturi flume with the circular cone efficiently measures the discharge in the low-flow to high-flow range and offers the advantage of accurate discharge measurements in the case of a low flow. With no influence of the tail-water depth, the stage-discharge relationship and the flow behaviors were analyzed to verify the numerical simulation results. Additionally, this study reviewed the effect of the tail-water depth on the flow. The stage-discharge relationship resulting from a numerical simulation in the absence of an effect by the tail-water depth showed a maximum margin of error of 4 % in comparison to the result of a hydraulic experiment. The simulation results reproduced the overall flow behaviors observed in the hydraulic experiment well. The flow starts to become influenced by the tail-water depth when the ratio of the tail-water depth to the total head exceeds approximately 0.7. As the ratio increases, the effect on the flow tends to grow dramatically. As shown in this study, a numerical simulation is effective for identifying the stage-discharge relationship of a venturi flume with various types of venturi bodies, including a venturi flume with a circular cone.

  • In the paper, a study on the analysis of fouling effect of the venturi flowmeter is described. In the research flow field solutions about the venturi flowmeter with fouling are obtained and then the effects on fouling states by inserting a ring into the throat of venturi flowmeter are studied. As the result shows, it is found that the inserted ring reduces the fouling effect due to the flow separation occurring at the ring. Consequently, a venturi flowmeter with ring shows smaller pressure loss differences than the original configuration with no ring on fouling state. This research suggests an efficient and economic method of inserting a ring to reduce the pressure loss effects due to fouling.

벤츄리형 후연소기의 오염물질 저감에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Pollutant Reduction by Venturi Type After-burner)

  • The purpose of this study is to develop venturi type after-burner in order to obtain pollutant reduction effect and find the best stable combustion condition. For this purpose, through a flow analysis, the shape of venturi type was made and flame holder locations were also decided by measuring chemical species at before and after the after-burner. Also, various chemical species concentration were measured at changing the induced air rates and the oxygen for oxygen enrichment for the solution the problems of much oxygen flow rate and the flame stability range. As results of this study, a flow distribution and the purification effect was excellent at venturi contraction 0.5 and flame holder location 12mm below the center of Venturi throat. On the purification characteristics, we found that pollutants reduction was effective when area ratio and oxygen are increased. But there are suitable quantities due to the flame shape change and combustion efficiency.

  • In disaster situations, to facilitate rapid drainage, electric underwater pumps are installed manually. This poses a high risk of electric shock accidents due to a short circuit, and a lot of time is required for hose connection and installation of electrical devices. To solve these problems, a Venturi pump using the venturi effect without external power is used. However, Venturi pumps that operate without external power make it difficult to install flow sensors such as electric devices; consequently, it is difficult to check the real-time flow rate. This paper proposes a flow estimation logic to replace the function of the flow sensor for the venturi pump . To develop the flow estimation logic, the flow characteristics of the venturi pump, according to the operating conditions, were checked. After that, the relationship with the flow rate of the venturi pump was defined using a pressure sensor corresponding to a low-cost sensor. Finally, an analysis of the estimation error was performed using the developed flow estimation logic.

대칭단면을 갖는 3 차원 날개의 지면고도에 따른 공력특성과 끝단와 거동 (Aerodynamic Characteristics and Wing Tip Vortex Behavior of Three-Dimensional Symmetric Wing According to Heights)

  • 지면효과를 받는 3차원 대칭단면 날개(NACA0015)의 공력특성과 끝단와(wing-tip vortex)의 거동에 관하여 수치적 연구를 수행하였다. 날개가 지면에 근접함에 따라 공기 역학적 특성과 끝단와의 거동은 두 가지 상이한 현상(지면효과와 벤츄리효과)에 의하여 영향을 받는다. 지면효과는 양력을 증가시키며 항력을 감소시켜 공기역학적 특성을 향상시키는 반면 벤츄리효과는 음의 양력을 만들고 항력을 급격히 증가시킨다. 대칭형 익형은 받음각에 따라 이러한 현상이 모두 나타난다. NACA0015의 경우 받음각이 4도 보다 작은 경우 벤츄리효과가 지배적이며 받음각이 이 보다 큰 경우 지면효과가 지배적으로 나타난다. 특이하게 4도에서는 이 두 가지 현상이 모두 나타났다. 벤츄리효과가 지배적인 경우 지면과 날개 사이의 흡입현상의 증가로 인하여 끝단와는 날개의 안쪽으로 끌려 들어오는 반면 지면효과가 지배적인 경우 끝단와는 날개의 바깥쪽으로 밀려나가는 현상을 알 수 있었다.

엔진 고공 시험에서 공기 유량 측정용 벤투리 파이프의 제작 및 측정 불확도 분석 (Manufacture and Measurement Uncertainty Analysis of a Venturi Pipe for Airflow Measurement in Altitude Engine Test)

  • Design, manufacture and calibration procedures of a venturi pipe flowmeter for airflow measurement in altitude engine test were discussed. Altitude engine test using venturi pipe was given as an example. The venturi was designed per the ISO standard of ISO5167, and was intented to include the entire airflow range in the test envelope of the gas turbine engine. Measurement uncertainty analysis was performed in the design procedure to investigate the effect of venturi geometry and sensor specification upon the measurement uncertainty. Manufacturing process was designed to minimize the deviation from the geometry of design. Calibration was performed to get the relationship between the discharge coefficient and the pipe Reynolds number. Then the uncertainty was assessed again using real data acquired during engine test. Through these procedures, it was possible to maintain the uncertainty of airflow measurement under 1 % for most of the operating envelope of the gas turbine engine. The discharge coefficient of the venturi pipe showed agreement with the value suggested in the ISO standard ISO5167-4 within 0.6 %.

벤츄리 스크러버 내의 액체 분사 미립화에 대한 수치적 해석 (Numerical Simulation for Atomization of Liquid Jet in Venturi Scrubber)

  • Liquid injection in a Venturi Scrubber creates great effect on the dust-collection efficiency and operation cost of venturi scrubbers. We have developed a model that can numerically simulate atomization of the liquid jet in the Venturi Scrubber. This simulation consists of models on liquid column, jet surface breakup, column fracture and secondary droplet breakup. These models have been embedded in the KIVA3-V code. We have calculated such parameters as the jet penetration, jet trajectory, droplet size, velocity field and the volume flux distribution. The results are compared with the experimental data in this paper.

  • This study aims to find methodical similarities between pop art and Robert Venturi's works. Pop art and Robert Venturi's works gave attention to periodical changes and wanted to communicate with the public. This study approaches a topic from psychological viewpoints, especially visual dissonance. The results are as follows: 1. Manufactured Products ; Commercial Ornaments ${\rightarrow}$ Character Changes in Experienced Stimulation 2. Daily Elements ; Traditional Elements(Classic) ${\rightarrow}$ Contextual Effect of Canonic Representation In these cases, visual dissonance attracted a lot of public attention, and people would develop new meanings of objet. Pop art and Robert Venturi's works indicated value change in post-industrial society, therefore, this study can help to understand the correlation.
