Daedeok Valley, located in the Daejon Metropolitan City, Korea, has around 1,000 start-ups. There is no comprehensive study for the valley except Seol et al.(2002), because the valley is a new one. There was no such valley four years ago, in 1998. This paper defines the spatial boundary, origins and characteristics of the valley. The core area of the valley is Daedeok Science Town. This valley is an outcome of so called the Venture Policy of DJ government and business restructuring after foreign exchange crisis of November, 1997.

This research was to analyze information network which contributed Anyang Venture Valley's development. And mutual communication between regional innovated companies was the essential factor of this growth. Anyang city with its Knowledge Industry Promotion Agency, KIPA, has first set up communication network, facility and other structures to create basis of communication. For that, they were able to operate various networking and promotion of communication which led to the enforcement of regional innovation in venture businesses. During its innovation, KIPA played a key role as a link between regional Innovated companies, which enabled active interactions between them. Government can verify significance of establishing network base with mediation function for lively communication for promoting innovation capability through Anyang Venture Valley's case.

The purpose of this research is to examine the major determinants affecting the usage and performance of information technologies in Daedeok Valley and Zhongguancun venture firms. The development of the research model is based on the theoretical linkages of IDT (Innovation Diffusion Theory) and TAM(Technology Acceptance Model). Seven hypotheses are derived and tested using regression analysis. The results from regression analysis suggest that the usage of Information technologies is affected by innovation characteristics (perceived usefulness) as well as organizational characteristics (top management support, employee capability on information technology acceptance) in Daedeok Valley venture firms. But, The results from regression analysis suggest that the usage of Information technologies is affected by innovation characteristics (perceived usefulness), organizational characteristics (top management support, employee capability on information technology acceptance), and external pressure (environmental uncertainty, intensity of competition) in Zhongguancun venture firms.

2017년 청년 실업률이 역대 최고치를 기록한 가운데, 본 상황을 타파하기 위한 대안으로 창업 활성화가 떠오르고 있다. 벤처 기업 수 및 신규 벤처 투자 금액은 매년 역대 치를 갱신하고 있으며 정부에서는 중소기업청을 중소벤처기업부로 격상시켰다. 문제는 스타트업의 성공률이 높지 않다는 데 있다. 한국 신생기업 생존율은 최근 3년 39.1%에 불과하며, 죽음의 계곡(Valley of Death) 단계에서 90%에 달하는 기업들이 실패하고 있다. 초기 스타트업은 죽음의 계곡을 넘어갈 수 있느냐가 관건이며 이를 위해 투자가 어느 정도 규모와 적시성을 가지고 이루어지느냐가 중요한 변수로 작용한다. 하지만, 현재 스타트업의 비즈니스 모델을 정립하기 위한 모델들은 투자 시 실질적인 기업 평가 변수가 반영되어 있지 않아 투자 유치에 어려움이 있다. 본 논문에서는 주요 투자 주체인 엔젤투자기관 및 벤처캐피탈이 투자를 위해 중점적으로 고려하는 변수 및 비즈니스 모델이 혼합된 프로세스를 개발했다. 또한, 새로 개발한 Death Valley Venture(DVV) 비즈니스 프로세스를 기존의 기법들과 비교하고, 적용 사례를 제시하였다.

본 연구는 대덕벨리 벤처기업들의 현황 분석을 목적으로, 벤처 기업들의 CEO들을 대상으로 설문조사를 실시하였다. 이를 토대로 의미미분법을 적용하여 심층 분석해 본 결과, 대덕벨리의 벤처기업들은 대체로 자금조달, 마케팅 전략, 그리고 네트워크에 문제가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 특히, 제한된 자금조달 원천, R＆D에 치중한 기업 전략, 낮은 산학 연간 협력구도가 핵심 현안문제로 제기 되었다.

This study investigates the effects of business environment on the e-business strategy and performance of venture firms. The development of the research model is based on the empirical studies on the strategy literature. The data from the survey was analyzed using Partial Least Squares(PLS). For Daedeok Valley Venture Firms, product innovation differentiation strategy is affected by environmental uncertainty. And, cost leadership strategy tend to be influence by environmental uncertainty. Finally, venture firm's performance is effected by cost leadership strategy and marketing differentiation strategy. However, for in Hsinchu Science Park Venture Firms, product innovation differentiation strategy is affected by environmental uncertainty and heterogeneity. And, marketing differentiation strategy is enhanced by environment uncertainty and industry growth. In addition, cost leadership strategy tend to be influence by environmental uncertainty and heterogeneity. Finally, venture firm's performance is effected by cost leadership strategy and product innovation differentiation strategy.

벤처부채는 벤처의 스케일업 촉진을 위한 대표적인 자금공급 수단이다. 성장 단계에서 대규모 자금 공급이 필요한 벤처기업은 지분 희석 없이 벤처부채를 지렛대로 성장을 가속화할 수 있고, 벤처캐피탈은 투자 기업의 성장이 가속화됨으로써 신속히 투자자금을 회수할 수 있다. 은행은 벤처부채의 공급을 통해 대출에 편중된 자산운용을 다양화할 수 있고 자산수익률도 제고할 수 있다. 해외 실리콘밸리은행의 사례와 같이 벤처부채 공급을 위해서는 부채자본 공급자인 은행과 지분자본을 공급하는 벤처캐피탈의 긴밀한 협력이 전제되어야 한다. 이를 위한 시장 조성 방안으로 "신용위험 분담형 벤처대출"과 "벤처대출 풀링"을 제안한다. 전자는 모태펀드와 정책보증과 같은 정책금융기관이 벤처대출에 내재한 위험을 선별하거나 우선 인수함으로써 은행의 벤처투자 시장 참여를 촉진하며, 후자는 은행과 창업벤처전문 사모펀드가 공동으로 벤처대출을 증권화함으로써 은행의 개별적인 벤처대출 실행에 따른 부담을 감소시킨다.

본 연구는 대덕밸리에 입지한 벤처기업들의 지식생산 및 상용화 과정을 산-(학)연 네트워크 차원에서 분석하고, 이를 기반으로 효율적이고 경쟁력 있는 지역혁신체제 구축방안을 제시하고자 하는데 그 목적이 있다. 1997년 이후 '제 2의 실리콘밸리' 구축을 위한 정부의 의지에 힘입어 조성된 대덕밸리는 기존의 과학연구단지를 기반으로 외형적인 혁신시스템을 갖추었다. 그럼에도 불구하고 본 연구결과 벤처기업의 지식생산과 상용화에 몇가지 근본적인 문제점이 드러났다. 이는 혁신시스템을 구성하고 있는 경제 주체들의 역할이 제 기능을 하지 못하고 있을 뿐만 아니라 혁신 주체들간의 연계를 활성화하고 조정할 수 있는 적절한 제도 및 기제의 부족에 기인한 것으로 나타났다 특히. 이와 같은 문제점은 벤처기업의 성장단계별로 그리고 지식생산 단계별로 상이하게 나타났다. 따라서 본 연구는 대덕밸리의 효율적인 지식생산 네트워크 기반의 혁신시스템 구축을 위해서 새로운 혁신시스템 구축이라는 관점보다는 기존 혁신체제를 구성하고 있는 주체 및 제도의 역할 보완 및 확충이라는 관점에서 그리고 기업의 성장단계별 및 지식생산 단계별로 몇 가지 정책적 시사점을 제시하였다.

창업의 과정에서 자원이 고갈되고 수익성이 정체되는 시기인 데스밸리(death valley)를 극복하는 것은 창업의 성공에 필수적인 과정이다. 본 연구에서는 스타트업의 전략적 지향성과 흡수역량이 데스밸리 극복에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지를 살펴보고, 그 사이에서의 개방형 혁신과 벤처캐피탈의 지원이 조절효과를 할 것인지를 실증적으로 분석하였다. 분석결과로는, 우선 스타트업의 전략적 지향성 중 고객 지향성이 데스밸리 극복에 유의한 영향을 미쳤으며, 스타트업의 흡수역량은 잠재적 흡수역량, 실현적 흡수역량 모두 스타트업의 데스밸리 극복에 긍정적인 영향을 미치지 못하였다. 또한 개방형 혁신과 벤처캐피탈 지원의 조절효과는 전략적 지향성 중 기술 지향성에서만 데스밸리 극복에 관한 조절작용을 하는 것을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 결과는 우선, (1) 데스밸리 극복과 생존을 위해서는 스타트업들이 보다 고객 지향적인 접근법을 취할 필요가 있다는 것을 보여준다. 특히 많은 기술 기반의 스타트업들은 전략적 지향성 중 기술적 지향성을 고객 지향성보다 우선시 하는 경향이 있는 데, 이러한 상황에서 본 연구의 설문 대상 기업들의 대부분이 기술 기반 스타트업들이었음에도 데스밸리 극복에 고객 지향성만이 유의미한 결과를 보였다는 것은 스타트업들의 고객지향적인 행동 및 전략의 중요성을 보여주는 결과라고 할 수 있다. 다음으로 (2) 스타트업들의 기술 개발에 있어서 보다 개방적인 혁신 및 협업을 실시하는 것과 벤처캐피탈의 자금 지원이 스타트업들의 데스밸리 극복을 보다 용이하게 한다는 결과를 얻을 수 있었다. 본 연구는 기존의 연구가 데스밸리 극복 방안에 대한 개념적·사례 위주의 논의가 주를 이루는 상황에서 데스밸리 극복에 영향을 미치는 요인들과 그 관계성을 실증적으로 분석하였다는 데에 그 학문적 의의가 있으며, 나아가서는 스타트업들의 전략 수립과 실행, 관련 정부 및 민간 기관들의 지원 방향에도 실무적인 시사점을 제공한다.
