This study was conducted to verify the simulation model through the drying test, and investigate effect of factors, such as temperature of drying air, airflow rate, and velocity of the airflow, on the drying. The low temperature drying simulation model was developed based on the circulation dry simulation model presented by Keum et al. (1987), and by modifying low temperature thin layer drying model, equilibrium moisture content model, latent heat of vaporization model, and crack ratio prediction model. The heat pump and experimental dryer with a capacity of 150kg were used for the test. The RMSE between the predicted and measured value was 0.27% (drying temperature), 0.15% (crack ratio), and 2.08% (relative humidity), so the relevance of the model was verified. In addition, the effect of drying temperature, airflow rate, and velocity of the airflow on the drying was examined. The experimental results showed that the crack ratio at drying temperature of $25{\sim}40^{\circ}C$ was allowable. Moreover, at below $30^{\circ}C$, variation of the crack ratio was slight, but drying time was delayed. Given these results, the drying temperature of over $30^{\circ}C$ was effective. As the airflow rate increased, required energy dramatically increased. Whereas drying rate slowly increased, so loss of drying efficiency was caused. Considering these results, the dryer needed to be designed and adjusted to lower than $30\;m^3/min{\cdot}ton$. As velocity of the airflow increased, required drying energy increased when the velocity of the airflow was over $5\;m^3$/hr, while crack ratio and drying rate showed little variation.
This study investigates the flow characteristics, such as velocity distributions, size and location of recirculation zone, longitudinal flow change rates, and bifurcation discharge ratio in the bifurcation channel by TELEMAC-2D, a 2D numerical model. The numerical model is validated by previous experimental results and the numerical results are in relatively good agreement with the experimental results, such as the water surface elevation and velocity distribution in the channels. As the inertial force and moment in the main channel decrease, the bifurcation discharge ratio increases, and the relative high velocity distribution becomes wider and the reverse velocity of the main stream decreases in the branch channel. As the bifurcation discharge ratio increases, the size of the recirculation zone in the branch channel decreases and it can be more clearly calculated by determining the point where the longitudinal froude number $Fr{\approx}0$ as well as drawing the distribution of the streamline distribution.

PURPOSE: Aging causes changes in the postural alignment and gait due to changes in the nervous and musculoskeletal systems. On the other hand, the relationship between the changes in posture alignment and gait is unclear. This study examined the relationship between the postural alignment and spatiotemporal gait parameters in Korean elderly women. METHODS: Thirty-two-healthy elderly women participated in this study. All subjects were assessed for their posture alignment and gait ability. Stepwise multiple linear regression was performed to determine to what extent the postural alignments could explain the spatiotemporal gait parameters. RESULTS: Coronal head angle was moderately correlated with the velocity (r = -.51), normalized velocity (r = -.46) and gait-stability ratio (r = .58) (p < .05). The trunk angle was moderately correlated with the normalized velocity (r = -.32) and gait-stability ratio (r = .32) and weakly correlated with the velocity (r = -.28) (p < .05). The coronal shoulder angle was moderately correlated with the swing phase (r = -.57), stance phase (r = .56), single limb stance (r = -.56) and double limb stance (r = .51) (p < .05). The coronal head angle and trunk angle accounted for 36% of the variance in velocity, 33% variance in normalized velocity and 46% variance in the gait-stability ratio (p < .05). The coronal shoulder angle accounted for 32% variance in the swing phase, 32% variance in the stance phase, 31% variance in the single limb stance and 26% variance in the double limb stance (p < .05). CONCLUSION: Changes in posture alignment in elderly women may serve as a biomarker to predict a decrease in walking ability due to physical aging.
Characteristics of turbulent lifted flames in coflow jet have been investigated by varying initial temperature through the heating of coflow air. In the turbulent regime, liftoff height increases linearly with fuel jet velocity and decreases nonlinearly as the coflow temperature increases. This can be attributed to the increase of turbulent propagation speed, which is strongly related to laminar burning velocity. Dimensionless liftoff heights are correlated well with dimensionless jet velocity, which are scaled with parameters determining local flow velocity and turbulent propagation speed. This implies that the turbulent lifted flames are stabilized by balance mechanism between local turbulent burning velocity and flow velocity. Blowout velocity can be obtained from the ratio of mixing time to chemical time. Comparing to previous researches, thermal diffusivity should be evaluated from the initial temperature instead of adiabatic flame temperature.

The flow around free end of a finite circular cylinder(FC) embedded in an atmospheric boundary layer has been investigated experimentally. The experiments were carried out in a closed-return type subsonic wind tunnel with varying aspect ratio of the finite cylinder mounted vertically on a flat plate. The wake structures behind a 2-D cylinder and a finite cylinder located in a uniform flow were also measured for comparison. Reynolds number based on the cylinder diameter was about Re=20,000. A hot-wire anemometer was employed to measure the wake velocity and the mean pressure distributions on the cylinder surface were also measured. The flow past the FC free end shows a complicated three-dimensional wake structure and flow phenomenon is quite different from that of 2-D cylinder. The three-dimensional flow structure was attributed to the downwashing counter rotating vortices separated from the FC free end. As the FC aspect ratio decreases, the vortex shedding frequency is decreased and the vortex formation length is increased compared to that of 2-D cylinder. Due to the descending counter-rotating twin-vortex, in the region near the FC free end, regular vortex shedding from the cylinder is suppressed and the vortex formation region is hardly established. In the wake center region, the mean velocity for the FC located in atmospheric boundary layer has large velocity deficit, compared to that of uniform flow.

With an aim placed on its exploitation on practical injector design, liquid phase mixing due to unlike split triplet impinging element is experimentally investigated by a series of cold tests. Non-reacting kerosene/water spray simulates the kerosene/LOX propellant combination. Measurements of local mixture ratio distribution were made for different injection configurations and different momentum ratios. Mixing and mixing controlled characteristic velocity efficiencies are measured in terms of oxidizer/fuel jet momentum ratio from 0.5 to 8. Extent of mixing and its influence on hot performance are estimated in terms of mixing efficiency and mixing controlled characteristic velocity. Envelope of design locus for optimum mixing quality and corresponding maximum hot performance are proposed. Effects of momentum ratio, orifice diameter ratio and jet velocity ratios are also presented and discussed.

Characteristics of flow and heat transfer have been studied numerically in a square duct with a periodic pressure gradient. The flow in a duct was assumed to be fully developed and constant heat flux was imposed at the surfaces of a square duct. The distributions of axial velocity and time-space averaged temperature are investigated with angular velocity and amplitude ratio at a given Reynolds number 1000. When the periodic pressure gradient was imposed axially in a duct, the reverse flow may be occurred near the duct wall. The magnitude of this reverse flow increases as the amplitude ratio increases or as the angular frequency decreases. In the ranges of the amplitude ratio and the angular velocity in present investigation, the ratio of the periodic time space averaged temperature to the nonperiodic space averaged temperature has been found to be greater than one. This means that the cooling effect at the duct walls deteriorates with a periodic situation compared with nonperiodic one.
Tuff specimens were thermally treated with predetermined temperatures of 200, 400 and $600^{\circ}C$ to construct specimens simulating weathered tuff rocks. Specific gravity, absorption ratio, elastic wave velocity, uniaxial compressive strength, Brazilian tensile strength, Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio and slake-durability index were measured for pre-heated specimens. Heating of rock specimens entailed the degradation of material properties except for slake-durability index. It was found that correlations among P-wave velocity, uniaxial compressive strength, Brazilian tensile strength, Young's modulus and absorption ratio are high. Regression equations which use the P-wave velocity as an independent variable were presented to evaluate uniaxial compressive strength, Brazilian tensile strength, Young's modulus and absorption ratio.

To achieve the unidirectional airflow in a cleanroom, we need to predict accurately the static pressure losses at the lower plenum and to control properly the opening pressure ratio of access floor panels based on these pressure losses. At first, the present study proposed a correlation to predict the velocity distribution at the lower plenum, because the accuracy to predict pressure losses at the lower plenum depends on how to calculate the velocity correctly against the inner structures at the lower plenum. In the second place, this study proposed correlations which considered the effect of inner structures such as columns, ducts and equipments at the lower plenum on pressure losses. In order to test the accuracy of these correlations, we compared air flow patterns before regulating the opening ratio of access floor with those after regulating. Results after regulating the opening ratio of access floor show good unidirectional uniform airflow pattern. So the present method can be used as an important tool to control the air flow in a cleanroom.
