The world is gradually running short of fossil fuel. Currently, the role of wind turbine is attracting great attention from all over the world. The objective of this study is to investigate blades of Vertical-axial wind turbine (VAWT) for optimum design using the CFD from the aerodynamics point of view. Because one of the performance of wind turbine depends on shape of blades, the study of comparing one gyro mill type blade and a modified one was carried out. Using the results of computation, we calculated and compared RPM for both models at same wind velocity. And we calculated angular acceleration and moment of inertia to find torque in every time-step. And the pressure contour and velocity profile around the blade were analyzed Also, this study is performed to calculate the wake effect.

A wind energy assessment is an integrated analysis of the potential of wind energy resources of a particular area. In this work, the wind energy potentials for Mauritius have been assessed using a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model. The approach employed in this work aims to enhance the assessment of wind energy potentials for the siting of large-scale wind farms in the island. Validation of the model is done by comparing simulated wind speed data to experimental ones measured at specific locations over the island. The local wind velocity resulting from the CFD simulations are used to compute the weighted-sum power density including annual directional inflow variations determined by wind roses. The model is used to generate contour maps of velocity and power, for Mauritius at a resolution of 500 m.

Numerical analysis is carried out to identify the wall thinning effect inside the feed water valve. The finite volume method is applied to make analysis for the viscous flows. The commercial cock FLUENT is used for the simulation and the GAMBIT for the grid generation. The RNG $\kappa-\varepsilon$ model is used for the turbulence and the tet-hybrid grid is applied for the modeling. The velocity vector, the pressure contour, the change of residual along the iteration number, and the dynamic head are predicted for the hydrodynamic investigation.

A method of evaluating the velocity components induced by a Havelock source is presented in this paper. The mathematical manipulation of x, y and z-derivative of the Green function of the Havelock source by the use of contour integration on the complex plane has resulted in the expressions that can be readily incorporated with computer program. The accuracy and efficiency that can be secured by the use of the present mathematical expressions have been convincingly found to be highly satisfactory.
The bi-material elastic system consisting of the pre-stressed hollow cylinder and pre-stresses surrounding infinite elastic medium is considered and it is assumed that the mentioned initial stresses in this system are caused with the compressing or stretching uniformly distributed normal forces acting at infinity in the direction which is parallel to the cylinder's axis. Moreover, it is assumed that on the internal surface of the cylinder the ring load which moves with constant velocity acts and within these frameworks it is required to determine the influence of the aforementioned initial stresses on the critical velocity of the moving load. The corresponding investigations are carried out within the framework of the so-called three-dimensional linearized theory of elastic waves in initially stresses bodies and the axisymmetric stress-strain state case is considered. The "moving coordinate system" method is used and the Fourier transform is employed for solution to the formulated mathematical problem and Fourier transformation of the sought values are determined analytically. However, the originals of those are determined numerically with the use of the Sommerfeld contour method. The critical velocity is determined from the criterion, according to which, the magnitudes of the absolute values of the stresses and displacements caused with the moving load approaches an infinity. Numerical results on the influence of the initial stresses on the critical velocity and interface normal and shear stresses are presented and discussed. In particular, it is established that the initial stretching (compressing) of the constituents of the system under consideration causes a decrease (an increase) in the values of the critical velocity.

Counter-rotating axial flow fan(CRF) consists of two counter-rotating rotors without stator blades. CRF shows the complex flow characteristics of the three-dimensional, viscous, and unsteady flow fields. For the understanding of the entire core flow in CRF, it is necessary to investigate the three-dimensional unsteady flow field between the rotors. This information is also essential to improve the aerodynamic characteristics and to reduce the aerodynamic noise level and vibration characteristics of the CRF. In this paper, experimental study on the three-dimensional unsteady flow of the CRF is performed at the design point(operating point). Flow fields in the CRF are measured at the cross-sectional planes of the upstream and downstream of each rotor using the $45^{\circ}$ inclined hot-wire. The phase-locked averaged hot-wire technique utilizes the inclined hot-wire, which rotates successively with 120 degree increments about its own axis. Three-dimensional unsteady flow characteristics such as tip vortex, secondary flow and tip leakage flow in the CRF are shown in the form of the axial, radial and tangential velocity vector plot and velocity contour. The phase-locked averaged velocity profiles of the CRF are analyzed by means of the stationary unsteady measurement technique. At the mean radius of the front rotor inlet and the outlet, the phase-locked averaged velocity profiles show more the periodical flow characteristics than those of the hub region. At the tip region of the CRF, the axial velocity is decreased due to the boundary layer effect of the fan casing and the tip vortex flow. The radial and the tangential velocity profiles show the most unstable and unsteady flow characteristics compared with other position of rotors. But, the phase-locked averaged velocity profiles of the downstream of the rear rotor show the aperiodic flow pattern due to the mixture of the front rotor wake period and the rear rotor rotational period.

Accurate river discharge is the most important factor in managing river basins and for successfully maintaining total maximum daily loads in Korea. It is not easy to measure the discharge directly in large rivers owing to physical and environmental constraints, even after investing much time and money. Recently, to overcome these historical drawbacks in river discharge measurement, we have developed the Automatic Discharge Acquisition & Management System (ADAMS) that scans the river cross-section and measures each cell $(1m{\times}1m)$ velocity using HADCP. The hardware system is composed of an HADCP sensor and winch, as well as a PC and software system for the discharge calculation module and hardware control module. It is controlled remotely via the internet and uses the velocity-depth integration method and the velocity-contour method for calculating river discharges. The characteristics of ADAMS are a ubiquitously accessible system, featuring real time automatic discharge measurement, remote control via the internet. The results using ADAMS at the Jindong stage site show less than 5% uncertainty and are 4 times more efficient than the ADCP & Q-boat system. This system can be used to measure any large river, river mouth or tributary river affected by backwater, all of which have a very difficult measuring real time discharge. The next generation of ADAMS will feature an upgrade to increase portability and GPS integration.
The propagation speed of tribrachial flame in laminar propane jets has been investigated experimentally under normal and micro gravity conditions. The displacement speed was found to vary nonlinearly with axial distance because flow velocity along stoichiometric contour was comparable to the propagation speed of tribrachial flame for the present experiment. Approximate solutions for velocity and concentration accounting density difference and virtual origins have been used in determining the propagation speeds of tribrachial flame. Under micro gravity condition, the results showed that propagation speed of tribrachial flame is largely affected by the mixture fraction gradients, in agreement with previous studies. The limiting maximum value. of propagation speeds under micro gravity conditions are in good agreement with the theoretical prediction, that is, the ratio of maximum propagation speed to the stoichiometric laminar burning velocity is proportional to the square root of the density ratio of unburned to burnt mixture.

Currently, a new generation of ducted fan UAVs (Unmanned Aerial Vehicles) is under development for a wide range of inspection, investigation and combat missions as well as for a variety of civil roles like traffic monitoring, meteorological studies, hazard mitigation etc. The current study presents extensive results obtained experimentally in order to investigate the tip clearance effects on performance characteristics of a ducted fan for small UAV systems. Three ducted fans having different tip clearance gap and with same rotor size were examined under three different yawed conditions of calibrated slanted hot-wire probe. Three dimensional velocity flow fields were measured from hub to tip at outlet of the ducted fan. The analysis of data were done by PLEAT (Phase locked Ensemble Averaging Technique) and three non-linear differential equations were solved simultaneously by using Newton -Rhapson numerical method. Flow field characteristics such as tip vortex and secondary flow were confirmed through axial, radial and tangential velocity contour plots. At the same time, the effects of tip clearance on axial thrust and input power were also investigated by using wind tunnel measurement system. For enhancing the performance of ducted fan, tip clearance level should be as small as possible.
Aquifer Thermal Energy Storage (ATES) can be a cost-effective and renewable geothermal energy source, depending on site-specific and thermohydraulic conditions. To design an effective ATES system having influenced by groundwater movement, understanding of thermo hydraulic processes is necessary. The heat transfer phenomena for an aquifer heat storage are simulated using FEFLOW with the scenario of heat pump operation with pumping and waste water reinjection in a two layered confined aquifer model. Temperature distribution of the aquifer model is generated, and hydraulic heads and temperature variations are monitored at the both wells during 365 days. The average groundwater velocities are determined with two hydraulic gradient sets according to boundary conditions, and the effect of groundwater flow are shown at the generated thermal distributions of three different depth slices. The generated temperature contour lines at the hydraulic gradient of 0.00 1 are shaped circular, and the center is moved less than 5m to the groundwater flow direction in 365 days simulation period. However at the hydraulic gradient of 0.01, the contour center of the temperature are moved to the end of boundary at each slice and the largest movement is at bottom slice. By the analysis of thermal interference data between two wells the efficiency of the heat pump system model is validated, and the variation of heads is monitored at injection, pumping and no operation mode.
