  • The purpose of this paper is to introduce the concept design and the structural strength of the double-deck rolling stock vehicle. Aluminum is very useful material for the carbody structure due to its characteristic of light weight. Large alumillum extrusion profiles(panels) have toe of merits such as easy production of complicated shapes, reduction of welding and cutting lines, and cutting down the labor cost. AED type is being applied to the standard EMUs and the EMUs Kwangju subway in Korea. Light material recommended the double-deck rolling stock vehicle because the center of gravity of the train is higher and its weight is heavier than those of the normal vehicle. So we applied the technology of the large aluminum extrusion profiles(panels) to the double-deck vehicle. We performed the structural strength analysis and examined its safety.

  • Any vehicle and equipment whose total weight is more than 40ton and its axle weight is 10ton or above is banned to cross any bridge in our country under section 54 in the Highway law. This restriction results from the accumulation and application of safety factors about which there is type specification in the "standard design vehicle". And in "standard design vehicle", Vehicle load to bridge is assumed concentrating one. Based on this restriction, there is an issue that military tank which has a total weight of 51ton (63ton in case of the US tank) can not cross any bridge. However, many research and practical examples concerned manifest that it is possible for military tanks to cross these bridges. The reasons of this issue in the current Highway law's provisions are analyzed in this paper. Correspondingly, feasibility of military tanks passing these bridges are discussed here. At last, considering economical efficiency and practicability for military, several suggestions and improving measures are put forward. This research has certain reality significance to guide bridge design considering the passage of military heavy vehicles.

  • In this study, Impact factors are represented and barrier height of compact car road of safety barrier is suggested through the investigation of applying problems of existed standard of general car road. For this, traffic accidents analysis is performed and based on the analysis, impact vehicle weight, impact Angle, crash velocity, and barrier height are investigated. For the decision of impact angle, analysis is carried out by comparison of RISER and 2-lines expressway accidents data. Through this, higher-impact angle is suggested. Vehicle weight data of sub-compact car, small vehicle, medium and large vehicle, SUV, small truck is surveyed and analyzed. Based on the accident accumulation rate, regression analysis of vehicle weight impact and impact velocity is performed. Also, based on the cumulative rate of vehicle weight on expressways near Seoul, barrier height of compact car road is calculated. It is noted that the results of this study will be contributed to the decision of barrier type.

  • PURPOSE: This study was conducted to analyze the effects of carrying weight on the gait of elderly women using a walking-assistant vehicle (WAV) as the weight increased. METHODS: A total of 30 elderly women living in the local community were included as subjects and instructed to walk 50 m using a WAV loaded with sandbags corresponding to 0%, 5%, 10%, or 15% of their mean weight. The subjects' gait was analyzed using a gait analyzer to measure stride length, step length, step width, and gait time. RESULTS: Stride and step lengths were longest when carrying 5% of their weight and shortest when carrying 15% of their mean body weight. Step width and gait time were lowest when carrying weights corresponding to 5% and highest for 15% of their mean body weight. When observing gait with a WAV, the gait time was greatly affected by weights, with carrying weight equivalent to 5% of the body weight positively affected the gait with a WAV, whereas carrying weights of >15% resulted in slower gait speed. CONCLUSION: When walking with a WAV, an appropriate carrying weight of approximately 5% of the body weight stabilizes gait, while a weight of 15% leads decreased gait efficiency. Therefore, when using a WAV during outdoor activities, elderly women should add some weight to the WAV; however, the carrying weight should be <15% of the body weight.

  • Overloaded vehicles increase the maintenance cost of road structures, and they are a major factor in causing damage to the roads and bridges. In addition, overloaded vehicles compromise the braking capability of the vehicle; thus, threatening the safety of the driver. In order to prevent overloading of vehicles, the government is cracking down on the roads by using a device that measures the weight of vehicles. But this process is inconvenient because the place where the equipment is installed is far away from where the cargo is loaded. Due to the limitations of these fixed weighing devices, there is a growing need for technology that can monitor vehicle weight distribution and overload conditions in real time. In this work, we develop an onboard scale that can measure the load (weight) of trucks in real time. The onboard scale consists of high sensors, a signal processing unit, and a display, and it measures the load using height-displacement of the vehicle's leaf spring suspension.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of DHEA (Dehydroepiandrosterone) on muscle weight and Type I and II fiber cross-sectional area of affected and unaffected hindlimb muscles in rats with neuropathic pain induced by unilateral peripheral nerve injury. Methods: Neuropathic pain was induced by ligation and cutting of the left L5 spinal nerve. Adult male Sprague-Dawley rats were randomly assigned to one of two groups: The DHEA group (n=10) had DHEA injections daily for 14 days, and the Vehicle group (n=10) had vehicle injections daily for 14 days. Withdrawal threshold, body weight, food intake and activity were measured every day. At 15 days all rats were anesthetized and soleus, plantaris and gastrocnemius muscles were dissected from the both hindlimbs. Body weight, food intake, activity, muscle weight and Type I, II fiber cross-sectional area of the dissected muscles were measured. Results: The DHEA group showed significant increases (p<.05), as compared to the vehicle group for muscle weight of the unaffected plantaris, and in Type II fiber cross-sectional area of the gastrocnemius muscle. The DHEA group demonstrated a higher pain threshold than the vehicle group whereas total diet intake and activity score were not significantly different between the two groups. Conclusion: DHEA administration for 14 days attenuates unaffected plantaris and gastrocnemius muscle atrophy.

  • The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has introduced low-floor buses, which are convenient for passengers getting on and off the bus and for the handicapped. The standard bus model is 11 m long and uses compressed natural gas (CNG). However, this model has drawbacks in narrow rural road conditions such as those in farming and fishing villages and mountainous areas, as well as difficulty in refueling since CNG facilities are not readily available. In this study, running resistance values were obtained by coasting performance tests on actual roads using a Tata Daewoo LF-40 model with three different weight conditions: curb vehicle weight (CVW), half vehicle weight (HVW), and gross vehicle weight (GVW).The test methods include WHVC, NIER-06, and constant-speed driving at 60 km/h. These tests were used to measure the fuel economy of vehicles other than the target vehicles to obtain the combined fuel economy. The energy efficiency was highest in the case of CVW. In the WHVC mode, the fuel consumption rates of HVW and GVW were typically 3.5% and 12% higher than that of CVW, respectively. In constant-speed driving, the fuel efficiency of HVW was higher than that of CVW. Further research is required to analyze the exhaust gas data.

  • The purpose of this paper is to determine the fuel change and weight change impact on the fuel economy and emission characteristic of ICE (Internal Combustion Engine) vehicle. According to fuel type, fuel consumption and emission characteristics were measured and fuel used in this paper was gasoline, diesel, and LPG. Four vehicles with different weight were tested and the fuel economy were compared and analyzed by using scatter graph. Test was carried out using chassis dynamometer, CVS (Constant Volume Sampler), and emission measurement system. Diesel vehicle less emited $CO_2$ compared to gasoline and LPG. Even if same $CO_2$ between gasoline and LPG, there are difference fuel economy depending on carbon proportion of specific fuel. The heavier weight of vehicle, the worse of fuel economy and Better fuel economy performance on highway driving mode.
