  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the secondary tasks such as sending text message (STM) and searching navigation (SN) on skin conductance level (SCL) and driving performance of relatively aged and high-experienced drivers. The subjects included 26 taxi drivers; 12 males aged $56.3{\pm}4.4$ with $28.4{\pm}6.4$ years of driving experiences and 14 females aged $55.5{\pm}3.5$ with $19.4{\pm}5.0$ years of driving experiences. All subjects were instructed to keep a constant following distance (30m) from the car ahead and a given vehicle speed (80km/h or 100km/h) in a driving simulator. The relative change of SCL, vehicle velocity deviations, and average following distances were measured during driving only and driving with secondary tasks. The relative change of SCL, average following distance, and vehicle velocity deviation were more increased during the driving with secondary tasks than driving only. The relative change of SCL, vehicle velocity deviation, and average following distance were more affected by driving with 100km/hr than 80km/hr of a given vehicle speed. Secondary tasks increased a work load of drivers in term of SCL change, and decreased driving performance in terms of the vehicle velocity deviation and average following distance.

  • In this study, an integrated motor control algorithm for an in-wheel electric vehicle is suggested. It consists of slip control that controls the in-wheel motor torque using the road friction coefficient and slip ratio; yaw rate control that controls the in-wheel motor torque according to the road friction coefficient and the yaw rate error; and velocity control that controls the vehicle velocity by a weight factor based on the road friction coefficient and the yaw rate error. A co-simulator was developed, which combined the vehicle performance simulator based on MATLAB/Simulink and the vehicle model of CarSim. Based on the co-simulator, a human-in-the-loop simulation environment was constructed, in which a driver can directly control the steering wheel, the accelerator pedal, and the brake pedal in real time. The performance of the integrated motor control algorithm for the in-wheel electric vehicle was evaluated through human-in-the-loop simulations.

  • In this paper, the method of controlling velocity between joining vehicles at the point of bottleneck using information and communications technology of WAVE method based V2V and V2I are proposed for the driving with high fuel efficiency. Using the derived fuel-efficiency comparative analysis model, it was shown that the proposed method's fuel efficiency is better than traffic light method demanding periodically vehicle's stop. Also, this method provides the derivation algorithm for deceleration and acceleration for controlling velocity between vehicles approaching bottleneck area.

  • 3-D numerical studies are performed to investigate the effect of the trunk height and approaching air velocities on the pressure distribution of notchback road vehicle. For this purpose, the models of test vehicle with four different trunk heights are introduced and PHOENICS, a commercial CFD code, is used to simulate the flow phenomena and to estimate the values of pressure coefficients along the surface of vehicle. The standard k-$\xi$ model is adopted for the simulation of turbulence. The numerical results say that the height variation of trunk makes almost no influence on the distribution of the value of pressure coefficient along upper surface but makes very strong effects on the rear surface. That is, the value of pressure coefficient becomes smaller as the height is increased along the rear surface and the bottom surface. Approaching air velocity make no differences on pressure coefficients. Through the analysis of pressure coefficient on the vehicle surfaces one tried to assess aerodynamic drag and lift of vehicle. The pressure distribution on the rear surface affected more on drag and lift than pressure distribution on the front surface of the vehicle does. The increase of trunk height makes positive effects on the lift decrease but negative effects on drag reduction.

  • The forced vibration characteristics for two impulse forces with time lag was discussed in the vehicle dull progress model. Detailed numerical analyses of the time domain were performed systematically. By the two exciting impulse forces, the responses of displacement, the velocity, and the acceleration were investigated in detail for the vehicle's vibration. Notably, the forced vibration responses in the time domain can be used to identify and monitor several vehicle vibration models. In order to define the responses of displacement, the velocity, and the acceleration, we applied a numerical technique (i.e., the Runge-Kutta-Gill method[1,2]). These variables were subsequently used to analyze the vehicle's vibration according to the time lapse and while it passed over a bump stock; moreover, the characteristics of the variables were analyzed in detail according to their force conditions. Finally, the intrinsic characteristics of the forced vibration were discussed in the context of the automobile model. Overall, our results indicate that the tested method can be successfully applied under different damped conditions.

  • In this study, Impact factors are represented and barrier height of compact car road of safety barrier is suggested through the investigation of applying problems of existed standard of general car road. For this, traffic accidents analysis is performed and based on the analysis, impact vehicle weight, impact Angle, crash velocity, and barrier height are investigated. For the decision of impact angle, analysis is carried out by comparison of RISER and 2-lines expressway accidents data. Through this, higher-impact angle is suggested. Vehicle weight data of sub-compact car, small vehicle, medium and large vehicle, SUV, small truck is surveyed and analyzed. Based on the accident accumulation rate, regression analysis of vehicle weight impact and impact velocity is performed. Also, based on the cumulative rate of vehicle weight on expressways near Seoul, barrier height of compact car road is calculated. It is noted that the results of this study will be contributed to the decision of barrier type.

  • Stability of truck and trailer are the most significance in Thai automotive industry. This paper presents the mathematical model of a six-degree-of-freedom semi-trailer vehicle. Search method was implemented to obtain the optimum design variables of the trailer which are the distance from the fifth wheel to the centroid of the trailer and the distance from the centroid of the trailer to the trailer axel. The objective function is to minimize the steady side slip velocity, steady-state yawing velocity and steady-state angle between the tractor and the trailer. From the calculation , the optimum distance from the fifth wheel to the centroid of the trailer and the optimum distance from the centroid of the trailer to the trailer axle are 5.50 and 3.25 meters respectively. The stability of the optimal semi-trailer vehicle was also examined in steady state. The steady side slip velocity, yawing velocity and the angle between tractor and trailer are also obtained using linearization technique under unit step disturbance of the tractor front wheel steering angle.

  • Along with the recent increase in traffic volume of vehicles, accidents involving rollover of vehicles have been rapidly increased, resulting in an increase casualties. And to prevent this, various technologies such as vehicle crash test equipment and analysis program development have been advanced. In this study, the applied vehicle model is FORD EXPLORER model, and PC-Crash program for vehicle collision analysis is used to predict the rollover accident behavior of SUV and the collision velocity. Compared with the actual rollover behavior of SUV through the FMVSS No 208 regulations, the analysis results showed similar results, the characteristics of the collision velocity and roll angle showed a tendency that the error rate slightly increased after 1000 msec. Then, as a result of considering using the database of NHTSA, it is shown that the rollover accident occur most frequently in the range of the collision velocity of 15~77 km/h and the collision angle of $22{\sim}74^{\circ}$. And it is possible to estimate the vehicle speed and collision time when the vehicle roof is broken by reconstructing the vehicle starting position, the roof failure position and the stop position by applying the actual accident case.

  • This paper presents an analysis on driving safety in lane change situation based on road driving data. Autonomous driving is a global trend in vehicle industry. LKAS technologies are already applied in commercial vehicle and researches about lane change maneuver have been actively studied. In autonomous vehicle, not only safety control issue but also imitating human driving maneuver is important. Driving data analysis in lane change situation has been usually dealt with ego vehicle information such as longitudinal acceleration, yaw rate, and steering angle. For this reason, developing safety index according to surrounding vehicle information based on human driving data is needed. In this research, driving data is collected from perception module using LIDAR, radar and RT-GPS sensors. By analyzing human driving pattern in lane change maneuver, safety index that considers both ego vehicle and surrounding vehicle state by using relative velocity and longitudinal clearance has been designed.
