Microphone array is designed to measure the equivalent source height of vehicle noise. The equivalent source position is defined for an arbirary distribution of acoustic sources above a perfectly reflecting plane and a microphone array for its measurement is developed. The normalized errors of the measured equivalent source heights are defined including the effects of background noise, the geometric near field, and source size. Normalized errors of the measured source heights obtained by a nemerical simulation for each parameter lead to optimization of the microphone spacing and to the design of an array which gives the equivalent source height as a function of frequency. The performance of the designed array is verified using the stationary loudspeaker experiments.

This paper considers the physical layer security problem for a two-way vehicle-to-vehicle network, where the two source vehicles can only exchange information through an untrusted relay vehicle. The relay vehicle helps the two-way transmission but also acts as a potential eavesdropper. Each vehicle has a random velocity. By exploiting the random carrier frequency offsets (CFOs) caused by random motions, a secure double-differential two-way relay scheme is proposed. While achieving successful two-way transmission for the source vehicles, the proposed scheme guarantees a high decoding error floor at the untrusted relay vehicle. Average symbol error rate (SER) performance for the source vehicles and the untrusted relay vehicle is analyzed. Simulation results are provided to verify the proposed scheme.

Intense acoustic load is generated when a launch vehicle lifts off, causing the damaging vibrations at the launch vehicle or satellite within the fairing. This paper is concerned with the prediction of lift-off acoustic loads for a launch vehicle. As a test example, the lift-off acoustic load on the Korean launch vehicle, NARO, is predicted by the existing calculation tool, the modified Eldred's second method. Although the acoustic sources, assumed as point sources, are to be located along the center line of the exhaust plume when using the Eldred's prediction method, the exact location of the deflected center line of exhaust gas flow is not usually known. To search for the most appropriate source positions, six models of source line distribution are suggested and the acoustic load prediction results from these models are compared with the actual measurements. It is found that the predicted sound pressure spectrum of the Naro is the most similar to the measured data when the centerline of the turbulent kinetic energy contour is used as the source line.

The radiated noise from the automotive intake system should be predicted at the design stage. To this end, the precise measurement of in-duct acoustic source parameters of the intake system, i.e., the source strength and source impedance, is essential. Most of previous works on the measurement of acoustic source parameters were performed under a fixed engine speed condition. However, the requirement of vehicle manufacturer is the noise radiation pattern as a function of engine speed. In this study, the direct method was employed to measure the source parameters of engine intake system under a fixed engine speed and engine run-up condition. It was noted that the frequency spectra of source impedance hardly changes with varying the engine speed. Thus, it is reasonable to calculate the source strength under the engine run-up condition by assuming that source impedance is invariant with engine speed. Measured and conventional source models, i.e., constant pressure source, constant velocity source, and non-reflective source, were utilized to predict insertion loss and radiated sound pressure level. A reasonable prediction accuracy of radiated sound pressure level spectra from the intake system was given in the test vehicle when using the measured source characteristics which were acquired under the operating condition.

In this study, we present the modern hybrid system based power generation for electric vehicle applications. We describe the hybrid structure of modified current source based DC - DC converters used to extract the maximum power from Photovoltaic (PV) and Fuel Cell system. Due to reduced dc-link capacitor requirement and higher reliability, the current source inverters (CSI) better compared to the voltage source based inverter. The novel control strategy includes Distributed Maximum Power Point Tracking (DMPPT) for photovoltaic (PV) and fuel cell power generation system. The proposed DC - DC converters have been analyzed in both buck and boost mode of operation under duty cycle 0.5>d, 0.5<d<1 and 0.5<d for capable electric vehicle applications. The proposed topology benefits include one common DC-AC inverter that interposes the generated power to supply the charge for the sharing of load in a system of hybrid supply with photovoltaic panels and fuel cell PEM. An improved control of Direct Torque and Flux Control (DTFC) based induction motor fed by current source converters for electric vehicle. In order to achieve better performance in terms of speed, power and miles per gallon for the expert, to accepting high regenerative braking current as well as persistent high dynamics driving performance is required. A simulation model for the hybrid power generation system based electric vehicle has been developed by using MATLAB/Simulink. The Direct Torque and Flux Control (DTFC) is planned using Xilinx ISE software tool in addition to a Modelsim 6.3 software tool that is used for simulation purposes. The FPGA based pulse generation is used to control the induction motor for electric vehicle applications. FPGA has been implemented, in order to verify the minimal error between the simulation results of MATLAB/Simulink and experimental results.

A field study was conducted during the summer time of 2002 to determine compositions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) emitted from vehicles and to develop source emission profiles that is applied to CMB model to estimate the source contribution of certain area. Source emission profile is widely used for the estimation of source contribution by the chemical mass balance model and have to be developed applicable for the target area of estimation. This study was aimed to develop source emission profile and estimation of source contribution of VOCs after application of the chemical mass balance (CMB) receptor model. After considering the emission inventory and other research results for the VOCs in Seoul, Korea, the sources like vehicle emission (tunnel), gas station (gasoline, diesel), solvent usage (painting operation, dry cleaning, graphic art), and gas fuels were selected for the major VOCs sources. Furthermore, ambient air samples were simultaneously collected from 09:00 to 11:00 for four days at eight different official air quality monitoring sites as receptors in Seoul during summer of 2001. Source samples were collected by canisters, and then about seventy volatile organic compounds were analyzed by gas chromatography with flame ionization detector (GC/FID). Based on both the developed source profiles and the database of the receptors, CMB model was intensively applied to estimate mass contribution of VOCs sources. Examining the source profile from the vehicle, the portion of alkanes of VOCs was highest, and then the portion of aromatics such toluene, m/p-xylene were followed. In case of gas fuel. they have their own components; the content of butane, propane, ethane was higher than any other component according to the fuel usage. The average of the source apportionment on VOCs for 8 sites showed that the major sources were vehicle emission and gas fuels. The vehicle emission source was revealed as having the highest contribution with an average of 49.6%, and followed by solvent with 21.3%, gas fuel with 16.1%, gasoline with 13.1%.

An electric vehicle is an environment-friendly automobile which does not emit any tailpipe pollutant. In a conventional vehicle with an internal combustion engine, the internal cabin of the vehicle is usually heated using waste heat from the engine. However, for an electric vehicle, an alternative solution for heating is required because it does not have a combustion engine. Recently, a heat pump system which is widely used for residential heating due to its higher efficiency has been studied for its use as a heating system in electric vehicles. In this study, a heat pump system utilizing air source and waste heat source from electric devices was investigated experimentally. The performance of the heat pump system was measured by varying the mass flow rate ratio. The experimental results show that the heating capacity and COP in the dual heat source heat pump were increased by 20.9% and 8.6%, respectively, from those of the air-source heat pump.

Recently, several experimental techniques for identifying the noise sources distributed over a moving vehicle are being developed and used in order to design a low noise vehicle. The beamforming method, which uses phase information between several microphones to localize the source position, is proved to be one of the promising techniques applicable even under complicated test environments. In this study a beamforming algorithm is developed and applied to measure the dominant noise sources on a passenger car moving at constant speed. Unlike the acoustic signals from a stationary noise source, the sound generated from a moving source is distorted due to the Doppler effects. The sound pressure are measured with an spiral array system composed of 26 microphones and a pair of photo sensors are used to measure the. vehicle speed. The information about the speed and relative position of the vehicle are used to eliminate the Doppler effects from the measured pressure signal by using a de-Dopplerization algorithm. The noise generated from a moving vehicle can be grouped in many ways, however, tire noise and the noise generated from the engine are distinguishable at the speeds being tested.
This study deals with a method to localize a noise source occuring in a marine vehicle in a 3D environment. Even when access to the noise source is limited for a marine vehicle, such as a ship or a submarine in operation, the signal received on a hydrophone located elsewhere contains Doppler effected noise by moving relatively. This study suggests noise localization algorithm in 3D based on Doppler effect by moving marine vehicle. Using a known source mounted on the vehicle, the noise source was estimated by reducing the range of Doppler center and closest point of approach via the least square method. The algorithm was verified through various simulations and it was shown that the noise could be localized in 3D based on Doppler effect by employing two fixed hydrophones located at the vehicle's exterior points and a known reference signal generator located somewhere on the vehicle.
In this study, we estimate the vehicle speed by analyzing the acoustic data recorded in a single microphone of a surveillance camera. The frequency analysis of the acoustic data corrects the Doppler effect, which is a characteristic of the moving sound source, and reflects the geometric relationship according to the location of the sound source and the microphone on the two-dimensional plane. The acoustic data is selected from the horn sound that is mainly observed in an urgent situation among various sound sources that may occur in a traffic accident, and the characteristics of the monotone source are considered. We verified the reliability of the proposed method by time domain acoustic analysis and actual vehicle evaluation. This method is effective and can be used for traffic accident analysis in the blind spot of the camera using a single microphone built into the existing surveillance camera.
