A Study of the sustainable Design Direction for a City Commuter Vehicle (씨티 커뮤터 자동차를 위한 지속 가능한 디자인 방향에 관한 연구)

  • This thesis is about design spirit demanded by the 21st century vehicle design studied in consideration of city commuter. First of all, going over the transition of the last century vehicle design led to the arrangement of the changes in vehicle models. Even though the invention of vehicles brought about immense improvement in living standard of the people, it also brought about other factors that were harmful for human living. Through this realization the main fact that should be emphasized is that the vehicles in 21s1 century should not be a threat to the human life or be the main cause for the environmental pollution of the earth. With the question as to whether the vehicles development direction at the beginning of the year 2000 like the Retro design and Hybrid-Compact car development is appropriate to these demands, the development of City Commuter vehicle (the most human and environment-friendly concept which can also serve as the connecting means in transportation system) and its case studies were compared. Through this, the design spirit that should be inherent in environment and vehicle human and vehicle relationships and the design factors needed for the continuous development of the vehicles were arranged.(classified) Rather than suggesting a new direction for the specific style for vehicle design, this thesis is to emphasize that to improve the standard living of the people with vehicle as a product that will be continually produced in the 21st century, the morals and the mission of the designers about the environment and humanity recovery should be the core of the active movement and education of vehicle design.

A Study on the Analysis of the Circulation Planning Importance in mixed-use Buildings (주상복합 건축물의 동선계획 중요도 분석에 관한 연구)

  • High-rise mixed-use buildings are consisted of various facilities and circulations. Since various facilities and circulations are planned in a single site, circulation planning should be established after identifying the exact characteristics of facility and circulation. To this end, the components of the circulation planning in accordance with the formation of facility types are analyzed through the survey of experts based on Delphi Method. To identify the characteristics of the mixed-use buildings, by figuring out how the elements of circulation planning which are sought to be important by the planner has been reflected through analysis of the correlation between two sections. Researching on the circulation between two sections through Delphi Method and reflected circulation planning, it reaches the conclusion that the circulation of planning on the subject building is applied following the importance. In other words, the components of circulation planning which were sought to be important by the planner are reflected significantly when they planned the circulation planning on that mixed-use buildings. However, in case of design on the outdoor vehicle circulation, minimizing on the vehicle circulation at the 1st floor is not applied for the majority of the subject buildings different from the importance. In early 2000, high end residential buildings designed for mixed-use building have been specialized at vehicle-centered outdoor space and hotel style drop-off. Contrastively, sizable outdoor space at the 1st floor is designed to open to the residents and the local by minimizing the vehicle circulation in recent. Finally it shows that the way of circulation planning has been changed in accordance with time and trend.

Proposal and Design Application of High-Rise Structural System for Combining Autonomous Vehicles and Architecture (자율주행차량과 건축의 결합을 위한 고층 구조 시스템 제안 및 설계 적용)

  • The purpose of this study is to propose future-oriented high-rise buildings where the vehicle is parked at the top of the building. At the same time, the vehicle is used as a part of the building along with the advent of the era of autonomous driving. The suspended structure is proposed as a suitable structural system for architectural planning. This system is free to design because there are no limitations on column planning compared to conventional designs. In particular, the low-floor plan can be used as an open space because colums are not arranged in the lower-floors. Thereby opened low-floor plan has advantages that visual perception of the space is improved, noise problems along the side of the street is solved and planning underground parking spaces are easier. These advantages can solve the problem of overlapping columns with vehicle traffic in the building. However, there are some problems that the suspension structure is mainly a formal form and the usable area is small compared to the core area because it is a core-oriented structural system. In this regard, a new structural system was proposed by combining the concept of suspended structure and cable stayed column. Therefore, this paper analyzes the existing style of high-rise housing suspended Structure and proposes a new structural system and the concept of design for autonomous vehicles.

An Observation on the Developing Process of the Sports Utility Vehicles (스포츠유틸리티 차량의 발전과정 고찰)

  • Various types of the sports utility vehicles become more popular in these days. This phenomenon says the increasing demand of performance oriented vehicles for the various life style It is changing now the rather the simple needs of passenger cars of the past. This popularity is due to not only for the increased leisure time which resulted from the five day working labor policy, but also the development of automotive technology. In addition to a large variety of vehicle and enhanced performance is another reason either. There have been many kind of multi-functional vehicles from the early days of the automotive history, and most of them have been evolved from the $\ulcorner$Jeep$\lrcorner$ which were developed by American makers. And various type of orthodox and crossover vehicles that is combined to many functional aspects for a transportation has been revealed so far. Usually the ambi-tendency has been revealed, in which the crossover vehicle has been become compact, on the other hand the orthodox type of 4-wheel drive vehicles has been become larger for being heavy duty vehicles. And this would be expand widely to more vehicles and brands in the future.

A Car License Plate Recognition Using Colors Information, Morphological Characteristic and Neural Network (컬러 정보 및 형태학적 특징과 신경망을 이용한 차량 번호판 인식)

  • In this paper, we propose a new method of recognizing the vehicle license plate using color space, morphological characteristics and ART2 algorithm. Morphological characteristics of old and/or new style vehicle license plate among the candidate regions are applied to remove noise areas using 8-directional contour tracking algorithm, then follow by the extraction of vehicle plate. From the extracted license plate area, plate morphological characteristics of each region are removed. After that, labeling algorithm to extract the individual characters are then combined. The classified individual character and numeric codes are applied to the ART2 algorithm for the learning and recognition. In order to evaluate the performance of our proposed extraction and recognition of vehicle license method, we have run experiments on 100 green plates and white plates. Experimental results shown that the proposed license plate extraction and recognition method was effective.

  • The scopes of the supply chain management in construction projects has expanded from the field management focusing on field storage, transportation, and lifting to the whole supply chain from the materials to field. The expansion of the supply chain management can raise the possibilities of leaner production, which enables shortened lead time of the difficult-to-operate materials, and prevents the work interference or delay. However, the expanded management range requires more information and management than an existing management style currently used for factory production of iron frame, curtain wall, PC, etc. In addition, there are limitations that expand the existing management style into the new supply chain management in construction projects and therefore it is required to automate the existing management style in order to extend the management range. The objective of this study is to propose the process and equipment that can manage the supply chain of the materials which range from the factory production to the field storage based on RFID/USN techniques, introducing small-sized transportation equipment(intelligent pallet), the vehicle tool kit(intelligent trailer), and in-and-out management equipment(Gate Sensor) as a prototype to effectively develop the appliances for operating the proposed process, and present the application possibility of the appliances. The full paper will present then the test results that the proposed appliances for the supply chain management automatically transmit and receive the generated information between the appliances or the appliance and sever under various wireless network circumstances such as zigbee, wibro, Wi-Fi, and CDMA.

Investigating the Relationship Between Vehicle Front Images and Voice Assistants (자동차 전면부와 음성 어시스턴트의 스타일 관계 분석)

  • In the context of the increasing applications of voice assistants in vehicles, we focused on the association between the visual appeal of the cars and the acoustic characteristics of the voice assistants. This study aimed to investigate the relationship between the visual appeal of the vehicle and the voice assistant based on their emotional characteristics. A total of 15 adjectives were used to assess the emotional characteristics of 12 types of cars and six types of voices. An online interview was carried out, instructing participants to match three adjectives with the presented car images or voices. This was followed with a brief interview to allow the participants to reflect on the adjective matches. Based on the assessments, we performed principal component analysis (PCA) to determine factors. We aimed to deploy the cars and voices and analyze the patterns of clustering. The PCA analysis revealed two factors profiled as "Light-Heavy" and "Comfortable-Radical." Both car and voice stimuli were deployed in a two-dimensional space showing the internal relationship within and between the two substances. Based on the coordination data, a hierarchical cluster grouped the 18 stimuli into four groups labeled as challenge, elegance, majesty, and vigor. This study identified two latent factors describing the emotional characteristics of both car images and voice types clustered into four groups based on their emotional characteristics. The coherent matches between car style and voice type are expected to address the design concept more successfully.

  • The safety culture of an organization is the product of individual and group values, attitudes, perceptions, competencies, and patterns of behavior that determine the commitment, the style and proficiency, and an organization's health and safety management. A good safety culture includes effective, appropriate safety management systems; strong safety leadership & commitment from management; participation and involvement of the workforce; and organizational learning and continuous improvement. This paper will introduce the safety culture inspection standards and process in Korea Railway. The main purpose is to get a better understanding of safety culture and to develop measuring tool. First of all we developed the composition factor of safety culture and the question set. And we prepared the base of computerization of safety culture measurement by developing of evaluation standards and weighted value.

Optimal Swimming Motion for Underwater Robot, Crabster (수중유영로봇 Crabster의 최적 유영 구현)

  • Recently, development of underwater robot has actively been in progress in the world as ROV(Remotely Operator Vehicle) and AUV(Autonomous Unmmanded Vehicle) style. But KIOST(Korea Institute of Ocean Science and Technology), beginning in 2010, launched the R&D project to develop the robot, dubbed CRABSTER(Crab + (Lob)ster) in a bid to enhance the safety and efficiency of resource exploration. CRABSTER has been designed to be able to walk and swim with its own legs without screws. Among many research subjects regarding CRABSTER, optimal swimming patterns are handled in this paper. In previous studies, drag forces during one period with different values for angle of each joint were derived. However kinematics of real-robot and fluid-dynamics are not considered. We conducted simulations with an optimization algorithm for swimming by considering simplified fluid dynamics in this paper. Drag-coefficients applied to the simulation were approximated values calculated by CFD(Computational Fluid Dynamics : Tecplot 360, ANSYS). In addition, optimized swimming patterns were applied to a real robot. The experiments with the real robot were conducted in circumstances in the water. As a result, when the experiments were carried out in the water, a regular pattern of drag force output came out depending on the movement of the robot. We confirmed the fact that the drag forces from the simulation and the experiment has a high similarity.

Behavioral Adaptation to an Adaptive Cruise Control System (적응순항제어시스템의 운전자 행동적응)

  • The study investigated how an adaptive cruise control system induced behavioral adaptation in drivers using a full-scale driving simulator. Forty drivers with different driving styles participated in the study to compare headway-time, vehicle lateral position variation, and head and eye movement when driving with and without the adaptive cruise control system. Results showed that system induced positive behavioral adaptation by drawing consistency in driving speed and headway-time regardless of the driving styles. However, the results also showed that the drivers' reliance on the system induced negative adaptation including reduced lane keeping ability and reduced attention during driving. As a strategy to prevent negative adaptation, the study proposed information service to drivers with the adaptive cruise control system status and driving environment, and investigated effectiveness of the service. Twelve drivers participated in the experiment to compare headway-time, vehicle lateral position variation and subjective ratings when driving with and without the information service. Results showed that the information service assisted the drivers to maintain safer and more comfortable headway-time without impairing drivers' steering ability.
