The high-speed train enjoys widespread acceptance as environment-friendly means of medium- to long-distance transportation. The pursuit of higher speed and lighter weight in railroad vehicles has engendered higher noise level. In particular, the environmental noise places many restrictions in the operation of high-speed railroad vehicles. This research investigates the effect of installing a skirt onto a high-speed train bogie with the top speed of 400 km/hr and using High Speed EMU for the purpose of reducing the environmental noise. In order to analyze the effect of the interior noise and environmental noise due to installation of the skirt, sound level is calculated using the Ray method and Statical Energy Analysis method. The numerical calculation predicts a reduction of approximately 2 dB in the environmental noise level, but at the cost of increase of approximately 2.5 dB in the interior noise level of the vehicle.
The interior sound pressure level of the Korean high speed train is predicted using ray acoustic method. The motor car, motorized car and passenger cabin are investigated under the environment of passing open countryside and inside tunnel Calculated sound levels of KHST are compared with the those of KTX prototype which vehicle shows similar acoustic behavior with KHST for the purpose of assuring the calculated data. In order to reduce the calculated SPL in systematic way, contribution analysis of sound sources and sensitivity analysis of concerning wall's transmission loss on the SPL of the designated receiving points are carried out. Finally, practical design suggestions are proposed.

As powertrain noise is better and better controlled, road noise inputs become more important. The interior road noise of a car is mainly induced by the wheels rolling over the road surface. Each of the four wheels act as an independent and uncorrelated excitation input. To rank the energy transfer form each input to the interior, a Transfer Path Analysis (TPA) needs to be made-which requires operational vibration measurements. However due to the multiple uncorrelated inputs, phase relations vary continuously. It is therefore necessary to separate the operational data into set of "independent phenomena" by means of a Principal Component Analysis (PCA). A TPA can then be carried out for each independent phenomenon. Operational deflection shapes referenced to these principal components share the physical phenomena. The details of the methodology are discussed and a discussion of the results on a car shows that the method gives accurate results for full vehicle testing.e testing.
This paper presents a robust design of vehicle interior noise using Taguchi method and a substructure synthesis method with a hybrid model. Firstly, the proposed method identifies the critical process of the concerned interior noise through a TPA (Transfer Path Analysis). Secondly, a strategy for a robust design is discussed, in which the major noise factor among uncertainties in the process is quality distribution of rubber bushes connecting a cradle and a trimmed body. Thirdly, a virtual test model fer the process is developed by applying a substructure synthesis method with a hybrid modeling approach. Fourthly, virtual tests are carried out according to the predefined tables of orthogonal array in Taguchi robust design process. The process was performed under 2 sub-steps. The first step is sensitivity analysis of 31 panels, and the other step is weight optimization of mass dampers on sensitive panels. Finally, two vehicles with the proposed countermeasures were validated. The proposed method reduces 87.5% of trials of measurements due to the orthogonal arrays and increases robustness by 8.6dB of S/N ratio and decreases $5\;dB(A){\sim}10\;dB(A)$ of interior noise in the concerned range of RPM.
Gear whine noise of the axle and transmission is getting more important for reduction of vehicle noise, because major noise of vehicle was reduced. Therefore, in this paper, axle noise and vibration is measured, then the modal analysis and running modal analysis is applied for identification of axle gear whine noise. And To reduce axle noise, Various structural modifications are performed by using FEM and BEM techniques.
Today, the interior noise perceived by the occupants is an important factor in the design of automotive interior assemblies. Buzz, Squeak and Rattle Noises in a Seats are one of the major concerns mentioned above. In this study, the terms 'Buzz, squeak and rattle' were defined as the noise originating from structural vibrations in an assembly. And, the BSR noise of vehicle seat was investigated and the improvement of BSR noise level was confirmed though the structural treatment based on the structural analysis results from the modal and sound intensity of seat.
Recently, Most of diverse noise of vehicles has decreased competitively according to development of the automotive manufacturing technology. Especially, Passenger car manufacturers has been conducting buzz, squeak and rattle(BSR) noise test as a method of the noise evaluation tests to reduce an unpleasant sound from interior parts on the driving the car. This paper suggest a evaluation method for detecting position of noise source from measured noise signals of vehicle seats during random excitation BSR test. Hereby the BSR test procedure used the test regulation of 'G' company. The detection of noise source positions used the Sound image equipment. Through suggested the test method on this paper, an accurate analysis of noise source occurred in the BSR test will be possible.
The powertrain is an important factor for the interior and exterior noise behavior of the vehicle Thus, the noise vibration and harshness(NVH) behavior of an engine is becoming a major target of the powertrain development. This paper describes the analyses with the aim to reduce the vibration and noise of an advanced inline 4-cylinder diesel engine block by use of CAE methods. The characteristics of an engine block as a main excitation source of car interior noise is studied. Particularly, The effect of balance shaft to reduce the 2nd order engine excitation force is calculated by forced vibration and radiated noise analysis. The engine exitation forces are obtained under real operating conditions. It is shown that the reduction of vibration and noise level by adapting blancing shaft is well predicted and rediated noise is directly related to the surface velocity of engine block.
The identification of location and strength distribution of extended noise sources is important in the practical noise control engineering, especially in the viewpoint of dealing with the inherent nature of noise problem in question. For noise source ranking inside an automotive vehicle, the window method has been mainly used due to its simplicity. However, time and cost drawbacks in the measurement and inaccuracy due to low-frequency tunneling and lack of phase information have been a serious problem in using this method. In this study, the inverse FRF method was employed to carry out the noise source ranking inside an automotive vehicle and it was also used to predict the interior sound pressure with the change of sound insulation materials. As a result, it was found that the source contribution of vehicle panels could be successfully identified in comparison with the window method. The sound pressure at driver's ear position was predicted based on the obtained data and was compared with the measured data. The agreement in spectral trends was acceptable and their difference in level was within 3㏈ above 500㎐.
This paper presents an optimal design process using beads on a body panel to improve interior noise of a passenger vehicle. Except modification of structural members, it is difficult to find effective countermeasures that can work for the intermediate frequency range from 100 Hz to 300 Hz which lies between the booming and low medium frequency. In this study, it is a major goal to find additional counter-measures for this intermediate frequency range by performing optimal design of beads on body panels. The proposed method for design optimization consists of 4 sub-steps, that is, a) problem definition, b) cause analysis, c) countermeasure development and d) validation. The objective function is minimization of interior noise level. The major design variables are the geometrical shape of a bead and combination of beads on the critical panels. Sensitivity analysis and optimization are performed according to the predefined process for an optimal design. It is verified that the proposed design decreases the level of noise transfer function above 5 dB.
