  • The purpose of this study is to obtain the natural frequency of fuel supply pipes for vehicle engines through modal analysis and testing and compare the resulting values to ensure the reliability of the analysis. In other words, in this study, we obtain the unique frequency of the fuel pipe of the vehicle engine through analysis and testing and compare its results. Comparing the natural frequency obtained through analysis and testing, the first and third vibration modes obtained accurate natural frequency results of less than 1% and very similar results of less than 5% maximum error over the fourth vibration modes. These results are determined that if design changes of fuel pipes are made depending on the vehicle in the future, there will be no problem in obtaining the natural frequency of pipes that have been changed by analysis. Through future analysis and testing, durability and stability evaluation of connections of fuel supply pipes for vehicle engines will be carried out.

  • Active stabilizers use signals such as steering angle, yaw rate, and lateral acceleration to vary the roll stiffness of the front and rear suspension depending on the vehicle's driving conditions, and are attracting attention as RSC (Roll Stability Control) system that suppresses roll when turning and improves ride comfort when going straight. Various studies have been conducted in relation to active stabilizer bars and RSC systems. However, accurate modeling of passive stabilizer model and active stabilizer model and vehicle dynamics analysis result verification are insufficient, and performance result analysis related to vehicle roll angle estimation and electric motor control is insufficient. Therefore, in this study, an accurate vehicle dynamics model was constructed by measuring the passive/active stabilizer bar model and component parameters. Based on this, the analysis result with high reliability was derived by comparing the roll angle estimation algorithm based on the lateral acceleration and suspension of the vehicle with the actual vehicle driving test result. In addition, it was intended to accurately analyze the motor torque characteristics and roll reduction effects of the electric motor-driven RSC system.

  • This study analyzes the potential demand for automobiles based on fuel type using survey data in Korea. The dependent variable of the model is the future desired fuel type, including gasoline, diesel, hybrid, electricity, and hydrogen. The main explanatory variables are the respondent demographic characteristics, key reasons for choosing vehicle fuel type and environmental awareness extracted via principal component analysis (PCA). Using a multinomial logit (MNL) model, we find that respondents who consider fuel economy and infrastructure increase the demand for a hybrid car but decrease the demand for electric and hydrogen vehicles. The denial-types increase the demand for gasoline (petrol) and diesel (light oil), and decrease the demand for electric vehicles. The anxiety-types increase the demand of hybrid vehicles, and decrease the demand for electric vehicles. In contrast, in the case of pro-types, the demand for diesel (light oil) hydrogen vehicles decreased.

  • Automatic transmission fluid (ATF) is used for automatic transmissions in the vehicle as the characterized fluid. Recently, the vehicle manufacture usually guarantee for fluid change over 80000~100000 km mileage or no exchange, but most drivers usually change ATF below every 50000 km driving in Republic of Korea. It can cause to raise environmental contamination by used ATF and increase the cost of driving by frequently ATF change. In this study, we investigate the various physical properties such as flash point, fire point, pour point, kinematic viscosity, cold cranking simulator, total acid number, and metal component concentration for fresh and used ATF after driving (50000 km, 100000 km). The result showed that the total acid number, pour point, Fe, Al and Cu component had increased than fresh ATF, but 2 kind of used oil (50000 km and 100000km) had similar physical values and metal component concentration.

  • The replacement of damaged components is an important task for long-span bridges. Conventional strategy for component replacement is to close the bridge to traffic, so that the influence of the surrounding environment is reduced to a minimum extent. However, complete traffic interruption would bring substantial economic losses and negative social influence nowadays. This paper investigates traffic control technologies without interruption for component replacement of long-span bridges. A numerical procedure of traffic control technologies is proposed incorporating traffic microsimulation and site-specific data, which is then implemented through a case study of cable replacement of a long-span cable-stayed bridge. Results indicate traffic load effects on the bridge are lower than the design values under current low daily traffic volume, and therefore cable replacement could be conducted without traffic control. However, considering a possible medium or high level of daily traffic volume, traffic load effects of girder bending moment and cable force nearest to the replaced cable become larger than the design level. This indicates a potential risk of failure, and traffic control should be implemented. Parametric studies show that speed control does not decrease but increase the load effects, and flow control using lane closure is not effectual. However, weight control and gap control are very effective to mitigate traffic load effects, and it is recommended to employ a weight control with gross vehicle weight no more than 65 t or/and a gap control with minimum vehicle gap no less than 40 m for the cable replacement of the case bridge.

  • To improve the vehicle fuel economy, various technologies have been studied. Meanwhile it deteriorates fuel economy that the increased driving torque for Power Steering System (PSS) due to weighted vehicle and widened tire for low speed driving and parking. So the larger driving torque for PSS is, the lower fuel economy is. Therefore, the study about the effect of the driving torque for PSS and the engine total friction must be preceded to improve the vehicle fuel economy. In this study, a PSS module separated from the vehicle is used to measure the driving torque for PSS with respect to the pressure of PSS. The result shows that the driving torque for PSS was in direct proportion to the pressure of PSS 3 (N-m) driving torque for PSS vs. 10 (bar) pressure of PSS, and 8 (N-m) vs. 40 (bar). In addition, the driving torque and pressure for PSS was measured according to the engine speed in the component test condition which was in the vehicle condition. Measuring the driving torque for PSP in the vehicle condition was established by using the VeFAS which was a fuel economy analyzer developed in our lab and installing PSS By-pass line. The effect of the driving torque for PSS on the vehicle fuel economy was analyzed with FTP-75 cold start mode.

  • Transmission of a tracked vehicle designed for multiple functions such as steering, gear-shifting, and braking is a core component of heavy vehicle to which the power is transferred based on combined technology of various gears, bearing, and fluid machineries. Robustness and durability of transmission, however, have been issued due to a large number of driving units and sub-components inside its body. The bevel gears are major components for the transmission of power in a transmission. Increasing the tooth surface roughness and chamfering of the bevel gears, especially, we aim to improve the quality of transmission. In this study, design structural evaluation is conducted on bevel gears of transmission for tracked vehicle using the ROMAX-DESIGNER program. By doing so, design safety of the bevel gears has been evaluated based on the gear strength theory of ANSI/AGMA 2003 B97 standard.

  • In order to reduce the number of casualties by improving the survivability of the combat vehicle, the vulnerability analysis of the combat vehicle is needed. However, the actual test for the vulnerability analysis requires large experimental space and expensive equipment costs long time and large expense. It is needed to develop a new method that can replace the actual test. In the paper, we suggested a new approach to analyzing the vulnerability using the M&S method instead of the actual test. To analyze the vulnerability, the shot line analysis is performed to find out which part is penetrated by the bullet. The component of the parts is simplified to "Single-Target", "Double-Target", "Air gapped-Target" and can be performed the penetration analysis using the ANSYS Explicit Dynamics. The penetration depth and the residual velocity of the bullet are calculated by analyzing penetration of each part of the combat vehicle. The penetration data calculated the penetration analysis can be used to define the damage level of the combat vehicle. The purpose of this paper is to collect penetration data for various targets and bullets. And "7.62mmAP" is used as the bullet, "7075-T6" is used as a target.
