This study focuses on the system identification of reinforced concrete bridges using vector autoregressive model (VAR). First, the time series output response from a bridge establishes the autoregressive (AR) models. AR models are one of the most accurate methods for stationary time series. Burg's algorithm estimates the autoregressive coefficients (ARCs) at p-lag by reducing the sum of the forward and the backward errors. The computed ARCs are assembled in the state system matrix and the eigen-system realization algorithm (ERA) computes: the eigenvector matrix that contains the vectors of the mode shapes, and the eigenvalue matrix that contains the associated natural frequencies. By taking advantage of the characteristic of the AR model with ERA (ARMERA), civil engineering can address problems related to damage detection. Operational modal analysis using ARMERA is applied to three experiments. One experiment is coupled with an artificial neural network algorithm and it can detect damage locations and extension. The neural network uses a specific number of ARCs as input and multiple submatrix scaling factors of the structural stiffness matrix as output to represent the damage.
Radar Cross Section(RCS) is a measure of how detectable an object is with a radar. A larger RCS indicates that an object is more easily detected. Informally, the RCS of an object is the cross-sectional area of a perfectly reflecting sphere that would produce the same amount of reflection strength as the object in question would. In order to estimate RCS of aircraft weapons the external surface is modeled as a collection of simple shape elements. And the overall RCS is estimated as a vector sum of configuring elements' cross-sections which are well known given by analytic formulae. A RCS estimation code is developed for a typical shape of Air-To-Surface bombs and missiles. Size of weapons and location of fins are implemented in the code in addition to the presence of canards. The ability to predict radar return from flying vehicles becomes a critical technology issue in the development of stealth configurations. This simplified method of RCS estimation is known to be fast and accurate enough in an optical region of high frequency incident radio wave.
The former earth leakage breaker is operating by total leakage current which is the vector-sum of resistive leakage current and capacitive leakage current. However, the electric disaster like the electric shock and fire is caused mainly by resistive leakage current. Therefore, the earth leakage breaker is ideal when it is operating by resistive leakage current. In this paper, the theory for finding the component of resistive leakage current from total leakage current is suggested and it is embodied to actual circuit. The resistive leakage current can be found by integrating the total leakage current during half cycle of line voltage. Thus, we can simply find resistive leakage current by using OP-AMP integrators, and we can confirm that the resistive leakage current is computed exactly from total leakage current obtained by resistive leakage current and capacitive leakage current. The results that the earth leakage breaker is operating within regular interrupt time are verified when the former earth leakage breaker's controller circuit is replaced by the proposed controller circuit.

This paper describes two methods to assess the output speech, quality of vocoders for telephone conferencing in digital mobile communication networks. The proposed methods are the sentence discrimiantion method and the modified degraded mean opinion score (MDMOS) test. We apply these two methods to Qualcomm code excited linear prediction (QCELP), vector sum excited linear prediction (VSELP) and regular pulse excited-long term predictin (RPE-LTD) voceders to evaluate which vocoding algorithm can process mixed voice signal from two speakers better for telephone conferencing. From the experiments we obtain that the VSELP vocoding algorithm reveals superior output speech quality to the other two.

The performance of existing recognition algorithms for binary phase shift keying (BPSK) and quadrature phase shift keying (QPSK) signals degrade under conditions of low signal-to-noise ratios (SNR). Hence, a novel recognition algorithm based on features in the graph domain is proposed in this study. First, the power spectrum of the squared candidate signal is truncated by a rectangular window. Thereafter, the graph representation of the truncated spectrum is obtained via normalization, quantization, and edge construction. Based on the analysis of the connectivity difference of the graphs under different hypotheses, the sum of degree (SD) of the graphs is utilized as a discriminate feature to classify BPSK and QPSK signals. Moreover, we prove that the SD is a Schur-concave function with respect to the probability vector of the vertices (PVV). Extensive simulations confirm the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, and its superiority to the listed model-driven-based (MDB) algorithms in terms of recognition performance under low SNRs and computational complexity. As it is confirmed that the proposed method reduces the computational complexity of existing graph-based algorithms, it can be applied in modulation recognition of radar or communication signals in real-time processing, and does not require any prior knowledge about the training sets, channel coefficients, or noise power.
