  • This paper presents comparison and analysis of various CFA patterns which are used in single sensor digital camera. There are several patterns which are already used, however, images are sometimes darker or brighter than what human see in real life. Also, images show some noise and blurring. To overcome this problems, many studies on the patterns have been discussed. We carry out experiment with seven patterns including the Bayer pattern. The bilinear method is selected for a interpolation method. The experimental result indicates that image quality is not affected by individual patterns and each pattern requires its own interpolation method.

  • This paper introduces an image decomposition-based deep learning method and loss function to improve low-light images. In order to remove color distortion and halo artifact, illuminance channel of an input image is decomposed into reflectance and luminance channels, and a decomposition-based multiple structural deep learning process is applied to each channel. In addition, a mixed norm-based loss function is described to increase the stability and remove blurring in reconstructed image. Experimental results show that the proposed method effectively improve various low-light images.

  • The media content market has been growing, as various types of content are being mass-produced owing to the recent proliferation of the Internet and digital media. In addition, platforms that provide personalized services for content consumption are emerging and competing with each other to recommend personalized content. Existing platforms use a method in which a user directly inputs video metadata. Consequently, significant amounts of time and cost are consumed in processing large amounts of data. In this study, keyframes and audio spectra based on the YCbCr color model of a movie trailer were extracted for the automatic generation of metadata. The extracted audio spectra and image keyframes were used as learning data for genre recognition in deep learning. Deep learning was implemented to determine genres among the video metadata, and suggestions for utilization were proposed. A system that can automatically generate metadata established through the results of this study will be helpful for studying recommendation systems for media super-personalization.

  • The purposes of this study were to investigate the emotional consumption propensity and the preferences for sensibility factors of fabrics(color tone, pattern and texture image), and to analyse the differences according to demographic variables and relationships between emotional consumption propensity and preferences for sensibility factors of fabrics, focusing on male and female consumers in 20's, 30's and 40's. The emotional consumption propensity were classified into symbolic consumption propensity, individual consumption propensity, aesthetic consumption propensity and hedonic consumption propensity. The subjects attached great importance in the order of aesthetic consumption propensity, individual consumption propensity and symbolic consumption propensity. Those factors of emotional consumption propensity showed partially significant difference according to demographic variables. Female consumers preferred various color tones than men did, and preference for light color tone showed significant differences according to gender and occupation of consumers. The preferences for floral pattern showed significant difference according to gender, age, education, occupation and marital status of consumers. The factors of the texture images for the fabrics showed partially significant difference according to demographic variables except education of consumers. There were almost significant relationships between emotional consumption propensity and the preferences for sensibility factors for fabrics.

  • Currently many devices reproduce electronic images in the various ways. However, the color that is reproduced in any device is different from the original color due to the differences in the gamut between devices. A recent trend in gamut mapping algorithms is the use of spatial information to compute the color transformation of pixels from the input to the output gamut. However, these techniques share the problem of preserving details, and avoiding halos, and hue shift. In this paper, spatial gamut mapping for preserving the details of the input image is proposed. Our approach improves visibility of detail that is not effectively represented with conventional spatial gamut mapping. In proposed method, initially, we gamut map the input image using gamut clipping and obtain a detail layer for both the input and the gamut mapped images. Next, we calculate the difference between the two detail layers, obtaining the details of the out of gamut region. Finally, we add the details of out of gamut region to the gamut mapped image. Since the resulting image has out of gamut colors, we obtain resulting image of proposed method by using a gamut clipping method. Consequently, the printed output image was more consistent with the corresponding monitor image.

  • Facial expressions exhibit not only facial feature motions, but also subtle changes in illumination and appearance. Since it is difficult to generate realistic facial expressions by using only geometric deformations, detailed features such as textures should also be deformed to achieve more realistic expression. The existing methods such as the expression ratio image have drawbacks, in that detailed changes of complexion by lighting can not be generated properly. In this paper, we propose a nonlinear model for skin color change and a model-based synthesis method for facial expression that can apply realistic expression details under different lighting conditions. The proposed method is composed of the following three steps; automatic extraction of facial features using active appearance model and geometric deformation of expression using warping, generation of facial expression using a model for nonlinear skin color change, and synthesis of original face with generated expression using a blending ratio that is computed by the Euclidean distance transform. Experimental results show that the proposed method generate realistic facial expressions under various lighting conditions.

  • As computer graphics, virtual reality and augmented reality technologies have been developed, in many application areas based on those techniques, interaction for 3D space is required such as selection and manipulation of an 3D object. In this paper, we propose a framework for a vision-based 3D interaction which enables to simulate functions of an expensive 3D mouse for a desktop environment. The proposed framework includes a specially manufactured interaction device using three-color LEDs. By recognizing position and color of the LED from video sequences, various events of the mouse and 6 DOF interactions are supported. Since the proposed device is more intuitive and easier than an existing 3D mouse which is expensive and requires skilled manipulation, it can be used without additional learning or training. In this paper, we explain methods for making a pointing device using three-color LEDs which is one of the components of the proposed framework, calculating 3D position and orientation of the pointer and analyzing color of the LED from video sequences. We verify accuracy and usefulness of the proposed device by showing a measurement result of an error of the 3D position and orientation.

  • This study was aimed to evaluate and compare the biological activities and total phenolic content of ethanol extracts of white (Superior) and colored potatoes (Red, Rose, Haryoung, Blue, Jaseo, and Jasim). Various ethanol extracts (250, 500, 1,000, and $2,000{\mu}g/mL$) were assessed for antioxidant activities of DPPH free radicals and hydroxyl radical scavenging. The cytotoxic activity of the extracts (0, 30, 60, $100{\mu}g/mL$) was also carried out by a human cancer cell lethality bioassay method. Results showed that the DPPH and hydroxyl radical scavenging activities, of all extracts increase in a concentration-dependant manner. All color-fleshed potato extracts, except for Red and Haryoung, showed higher radical scavenging activities than the general white potato extract. Cytotoxicity of the extracts as determined in THP-1 cells showed that Blue and Jasim was highly toxic at most concentrations tested. In addition, the Blue extract had the highest cytotoxic activity on $HepG_2$ cells at the concentration $100{\mu}g/mL$. The contents of total phenolic (TPC) in the extracts significantly varied from 120.0 mg/100 g powder (Superior) to 151.1 mg/100 g powder (Blue), and TPC of all color-fleshed potato extracts was higher than that of white. The greatest positive correlation was found between phenolic contents and hydroxyl radical scavenging activity (r=0.776, p<0.05), and a strong negative correlation was found between hydroxyl radical scavenging activity and cytotoxic activities on $HepG_2$ cells (r=-0.795, p<0.05). The present study demonstrates that color-fleshed potatoes have higher antioxidant and stronger anticancer activities than general potato. These results provide useful and important information for potato breeders and researchers, in order to increase the antioxidant capacity and functional value of colored potatoes for use in the food and pharmaceutical industries.
