  • The sound wave in the sea propagates under the effect of water depth, sound speed structure, sea surface roughness, bottom roughness, and acoustic properties of bottom sediment. In shallow water, the bottom sediments are distributed very variously with place and the sound speed structure varying with time and space. In order to investigate the seasonal propagation characteristics of low-frequency sound wave in the Yellow Sea, propagation experiments were conducted along a track in the middle part of the Yellow Sea in spring, summer, and autumn. In this paper we consider seasonal variations of the sound speed profile and propagation loss based on the measurement results. Also we quantitatively investigate variation of bottom loss by dividing the propagation loss into three components: spreading loss, absorption loss, and bottom loss. As a result, the propagation losses measured in summer were larger than the losses in spring and autumn, and the propagation losses measured in autumn were smaller than the losses in spring. The spreading loss and the absorption loss did not show seasonal variations, but the bottom loss showed seasonal variations. So it was thought that the seasonal variation of the propagation loss was due to the seasonal change of the bottom loss and the seasonal variation of the bottom loss was due to the change of the sound speed profile by season.

  • To achieve hydrogen power system with high performance and stable operation, the COVimep of hydrogen fueled engine with direct injection was evaluated with the change of engine speed, injection timing, air-fuel equivalence ratio and spark timing. And the cause of cycle variation was analyzed by using coefficient of variation in combustion period defined in this study. the results showed that the cycle variation of hydrogen fueled engine is mainly dependent on the early combustion period.

  • This paper describes a novel and compact biosensing platform using an RF active system. The proposed sensing system is based on the oscillation frequency deviation due to the biomolecular binding mechanism on a resonator. The impedance variation of the resonator, which is caused by a specific biomolecular interaction results in a corresponding change in the oscillation frequency of the oscillator so that this change is used for the discrimination of the biomolecular binding, along with concentration variation. Also, a Surface Acoustic Wave (SAW) filter is utilized in order to enhance the biosensing performance of our system. Because the oscillator operates at the skirt frequency range of the SAW filter, a small amount of oscillation frequency deviation is transformed into a large variation in the output amplitude. Next, a power detector is used to detect the amplitude variation and convert it to DC voltage. It was also found that the frequency response of the biosensing system changes linearly with three streptavidin concentrations. Therefore, we expect that the proposed RF biosensing system can be applied to bio/medical applications capable of detecting a nano-sized biomolecular interaction.

  • Theoretical study has been conducted to clarify pressure characteristics of KTX(Korea Train eXpress) in tunnel. The external and internal pressure of rolling stock have been measured by using the atmospheric pressure sensors and portable data acquisition system on Seoul-Busan high speed railroad line. These pressure change may give rise to the ear-discomfort for passenger and fatigue for car body. In this study, the tunnels from 200m to 4000m in length have been chosen for the investigation of tunnel length effects. From the results of experiment, the pattern of pressure change generally agrees to RTRI's experimental result for Shinkansen. We found that there are similar patterns of external pressure variation for each critical tunnel length. The critical tunnel lengths are governed by train speed, train length and sonic velocity.

  • This study was carried out to observe movement behavior of students about a change of physical condition in moving space of variation type using simulation technique. The moving pattern of students was checked by SIMULEX program. The width of corridor was adjusted to 2.4m, 3.0m and 3.9m and a flow coefficient of simulation was estimated with the change of width. The wider the width of corridor was, the lower a flow coefficient was, and the difference was large when the width of corridor was narrow. It was also observed that the flow coefficient was relatively high in all types of corridor setup individual locker. Unit occupation area with the change of width was additionally measured, as shown in the results, the occupation density was low when the width of corridor was wide and a stationary time was short.

  • Refractory Dissolved Organic Carbon (RDOC) is becoming more important index on management of water quality, water regulation as well as ecosystem management. We analyzed trends of RDOC using elasticity in the Nakdong river basin. If climate elasticity of streamflow is positive, change of streamflow can be defined by the proportional change in a climatic variable such as precipitation and temperature. Elasticity of streamflow to precipitation and elasticity of RDOC to precipitation were estimated in the present, and we also analyzed the variation of elasticity in the future using climate change scenarios, RCP 8.5/ 4.5. Mean streamflow elasticity is 1.655, and mean RDOC elasticity is 1.983. RDOC is more sensitive to precipitation change than streamflow. The variation of RDOC is directly proportion to precipitation in all scenarios, but the Load of RDOC is dependent on precipitation as well as others. There is a need for additional correlation analysis between RDOC and other factors for accurate prediction.

  • The aridity index, which is determined as the ratio of potential evapotranspiration to precipitation, is one of key parameters in drought characterization. Whereas the evaporative index, which is defined as the ratio of actual evapotranspiration to precipitation, represents the fraction of available water consumed by the evapotranspiration process. This study investigates variation of the aridity and evaporative indexes due to climate change during the 21st century in South Korea. Estimations of the aridity and evaporative indexes are obtained using SWAT mode based on ensemble of 13 different GCMs over 5 large basins of South Korea for 2 RCP scenarios (RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5). The results shows the opposite trends of the two indexes, where the aridity index is projected as always increase, while the evaporative index is expected to decrease in all of 3 future period (2011-1940, 1941-1970, 1971-2099). The estimated results also suggest that land cover influenced significantly evapotranspiration along with the change of climate. The study indicates that South Korea will be facing with a high risk of water scarcity in future due to climate change, which is seriously challenging for water planing and management in the country.

  • Harmonic analysis enables to characterize patterns of variation in MODIS NDVI time series data and track changes in ground vegetation cover. In harmonic analysis, a periodic phenomenon of time series data is decomposed into the sum of a series of sinusoidal waves and an additive term. Each wave is defined by an amplitude and a phase angle and accounts for the portion of variance of complex curve. In this study, harmonic analysis was explored to tract ground vegetation variation through time for land-cover vegetation change detection. The process also enables to reconstruct observed time series data including various noise components. Harmonic model was tested with simulation data to validate its performance. Then, the suggested change detection method was applied to MODIS NDVI time series data over the study period (2006-2012) for a selected test area located in the northern plateau of Korean peninsula. The results show that the proposed approach is potentially an effective way to understand the pattern of NDVI variation and detect the change for long-term monitoring of land cover.

  • This paper describes the variation of the critical speed of an urban railway vehicle according to the change of suspension characteristics. Suspensions of a railway vehicle are composed of primary and secondary suspensions. Generally, main focus of the stability analysis has been the primary suspension. However, secondary suspension has large effects on the stability as well as the ride quality of a vehicle. In this paper, stability of an urban railway vehicle is discussed in relation to the variation of characteristics of both primary and secondary suspension. For this, modal analysis is carried out using a linear dynamic model of a half vehicle and a polynomial fit for Kalker's creep coefficients. Stability along with change of the effective conicity of a wheel is also investigated.

  • In this paper, I try to measure the electrical characteristics of PV cell for lanterns with solar simulator and simulated with PC1D software. I keep my eye on the characteristics variation of PV cell as a temperature change. Therefore, I try to increase a temperature of controlled block from $10^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$ while measuring the PV cell. As a result, A variation caused by voltage have an effect on the efficacy of PV cell. Hence, it is an important variable when a designer plan to make a solar cell for lanterns.
