In-line Variable Attenuator Based on the Evanescent Wave Coupling Between a Side-polished Single-mode Fiber and an Index Matched Dielectric Plate

  • An in-line variable attenuator has been proposed and demonstrated exploiting a side-polished single-mode (SM) fiber evanescently coupled with an index matched dielectric plate. The attenuation can be controlled by fine mechanical sliding of the index matched dielectric plate. We have achieved 49 ㏈ dynamic range and very low excess loss of 0.2 ㏈ at 1550 nm wavelength. The measured polarization dependent losses (PDL) were 0.1, 0.2, and 0.4 ㏈ at 10, 20, and 30 ㏈ attenuation, respectively. Wavelength sensitivity was measured to be -0.017/nm ㏈ at 20 ㏈ attenuation.

SS-OCT용 정현파 및 트리거 펄스 발생기 (Sine-wave and Trigger Pulse Generator for SS-OCT)

  • In this paper, the sine-wave and trigger pulse generator with capability of frequency high-resolution and time-variable trigger edge has implemented. It fulfills well the requirements for SS-OCT with frequency resolution of 1 Hz, frequency stability of ${\leq}{\pm}0.03Hz$ and time-variable trigger edge. Through its performance test applied to the wavelength swept laser, 90 nm, sweeping range and 10mW average optical power were obtained. This showes that the realized generator can replace the commercial high cost and high performance signal generators employed by current SS-OCT systems.

  • 21세기 광통신 분야는 보다 많은 정보를 동시에 전송하기 위해 다양한 다중화 방식들을 요구 받고 있다. 광섬유 Brags격자 소자를 이용한 모든 광 분기/결합 장치는 분기/결합할 수 있는 신호가 광섬유 격자 소자의 Bragg파장에 의해 정해지므로 하나의 광섬유 격자 소자는 고정된 한 채널만을 분기, 결합할 수 있다는 단점을 지니고 있다. 그러나 광섬유 격자에 온도와 스트레인(strain) 같은 외부 물리량을 가하게 되면 광섬유 격자의 주기가 변하게 되어 반사파장이 고정되지 않고 파장을 가변 할 수 있는 장점을 가지게 된다. 이에 본 논문에서는 광섬유 격자 소자에 가해진 온도, 스트레인에 의해 Bragg파장이 변화하는 성질을 이용하여 파장 가변형 Bragg 격자를 제작 및 실험을 통하여 전광필터 특성에 대하여 제시하였다.

Variable Aggregation in the ILP Design of WDM Networks with Dedicated Protection

  • In wavelength-division-multiplexing(WDM) networks a link failure may cause the failure of several high-bit-rate optical channels, thereby leading to large data loss. Recently, various protection and restoration mechanisms have been proposed to efficiently deal with this problem in mesh networks. Among them, dedicated path protection(DPP) is a promising candidate because of its ultra-fast restoration time and robustness. In this work we investigate the issue of planning and optimization of WDM networks with DPP. Integer linear programming(ILP), in particular, is one of the most common exact method to solve the design optimization problem for protected WDM networks. Traditional ILP formalizations to solve this problem rely on the classical flow or route formulation approaches, but both these approaches suffer from a excessively high computational burden. In this paper, we present a variable-aggregation method that has the ability of significantly reducing the complexity of the traditional flow formulation. We compare also the computational burden of flow formulation with variable aggregation both with the classical flow and route formulations. The comparison is carried out by applying the three alternative methods to the optimization of two case-study networks.

근적외선 영상을 이용한 후지사과의 결점 검출에 관한 연구 (I) -결점의 광학적 특성 구명 및 유의파장 선정- (Defect Detection of ‘Fuji’ Apple using NIR Imaging(I) -Optical characteristics of defects and selection of significant wavelelength-)

  • Defect of apple was depreciated the product value and causes storage disease seriously. To detect the defect of ‘Fuji’apple with machine vision system, the optical characteristics of defect should be investigated. In this research, absorbance spectra of defect were acquired by spectrophotometer in the range of visible and NIR region(400∼1,100nm) and L*a*b* color values were also acquired by colorimeter. NIR machine vision system was constructed with B&W camera, frame grabber, 16 tungsten-halogen lamps, variable focal length lens and NIR bandpass filter which was mounted to lens outward. Average gray values of defect at 15 NIR wavelength were acquired and the significant NIR wavelength was selected by comparing Mahalanobis distance between sound and defective apple. As the result of Mahalanobis distance analysis, the significant wavelength to discriminate the defectives in ‘Fuji’apple were found to be 720nm for scab and 970nm for bruise and cuts and 920nm was also effective regardless of defective types.

마이켈슨 간섭계의 원리를 이용한 파장변화형 절대 거리측정기의 기초 연구 (A Study for Absolutely Distance Measurement System of Wavelength Variable Type by Using Pinciple of the Michelson Interometer)

  • In this study, a distance-measurement system was proposed by using principle of the Michelson Interferometer and a fundamental research was carried out. In case of the rnichelson interferometer, relativity distance was measured by relativity-difference of two course of light. But wavelength of light source were changed in this system in order to use interference phenomenon of michelson interferometer in measuring absolutely distance. Wavelength of input signal were changed periodically and were interfered electrically. So absolute distance can be calculated by using $\Delta\lambda$ and measuring $\eta\Delta$ in electric interference. Nose by a external factor was small in this system because a absolutely distance was measured by phase difference. And a dispersion of noise was small in pulse-echo response because a error was occurred in range of phase difference of signal. Also very wide range can be measured by only single system because informations of distance were acquisited in wavelength level.

  • 본 논문에서는 엄밀한 수학 없이 상호 주임 잠김에 대한 정성적 이해를 시도하였고, 제안하는 상호 주입 잠김 광원에 대해 분석한다. 또한 두 개의 unpolarized Fabry-Perot Laser Diode (F-P LD)를 이용한 상호 주입 잠김 기반의 Wavelength Division Multiplexing - Passive Optical Network (WDM-PON)용 저가격 광원을 구현하였다. 한 쪽 F-P LD의 파장 변화에 대한 RIN (Relative Intensity Noise) 특성을 측정하였는데, 가변 파장의 범위가 2.07 nm일 때 최소 -110 dB/Hz의 RIN을 보여주었다.

  • 본 논문은 광스위치등에 사용되는 가변 광감쇠기를 위해 반사형 액정셀을 채용한 광감쇠기 구조를 제안하고 특성을 검토한다. 본 제안의 가변 광감쇠기는 반사형구조로 소형화가 가능하고 저전압구동이 가능하다. 광통신용 파장에 적합한 액정셀의 설계방법, 주변온도에 따른 동작특성, 광감쇠기의 응답특성 등을 검토하여 본 제안 구조의 유용성을 검증한다.

파장 단위의 Time Solt 할당을 위한 스케줄러 및 스케줄링 알고리즘 (A Scheduler and Scheduling Algorithm for Time Slot Assignment based on Wavelength)

  • 최근 인터넷 사용자 수의 증가와 게임, 뉴스, 분산컴퓨팅, 화상회의, 실시간 오디오, 비디오 등의 새로운 응용 트래픽의 등장으로 각 응용의 요구 대역폭이 증가하게 되었다. 이러한 요구에 파장 단위의 전송이 제시되었지만 파장의 한계성이 존재하므로 본 논문에서는 파장 단위의 Time slot을 적용한 빠른 스케줄링 알고리즘을 제안하였다. 이 알고리즘은 일반적인 파장 스위칭 기능과 시간분할전송 기능을 포함한 복합 구조의 광 교환기의 형태를 나타낸다. 제안한 OXC(Optical Cross Connect) 구조의 성능 평가는 패킷의 종류에 따른 구분을 위해 LFS(Limit Frame Size)와 VFS(Variable Frame Size)를 정의하였다. 임계값 이내에서는 두개의 프레임 구조가 유사하게 나타나지만 임계값의 초과 시에는 현저한 차이가 있음을 알 수 있었다. 이러한 구조의 광 교환기는 노드가 증가함에 따라 발생하는 프레임들의 충돌을 감소시킴은 물론 망의 확장성을 보장 할 수 있는 장점을 가지고 있다.
