As constantly increasing wind power penetrates power grid, wind power plants (WPPs) are exerting a direct influence on the traditional power system. Most of WPPs are using variable speed constant frequency (VSCF) wind turbines equipped with doubly fed induction generators (DFIGs) due to their high efficiency over other wind turbine generators (WTGs). Therefore, the analysis of DFIG has attracted considerable attention. Precisely measuring optimum reference speed is basis of utilized maximum wind power in electric power generation. If the measurement of wind speed can be easily taken, the reference of rotation speed can be easily calculated by known system's parameters. However, considering the varying wind speed at different locations of blade, the turbulence and tower shadow also increase the difficulty of its measurement. The aim of this study is to design fuzzy controllers to replace the wind speedometer to track the optimum generator speed based on the errors of generator output power and rotation speed in varying wind speed. Besides, this paper proposes the fuzzy adaptive PID control to replace traditional PID control under rated wind speed in variable-pitch wind turbine, which can detect and analyze important aspects, such as unforeseeable conditions, parameters delay and interference in the control process, and conducts online optimal adjustment of PID parameters to fulfill the requirement of variable pitch control system.

This paper proposes a variable speed control scheme of grid-connected wind power generation systems using cage-type induction generators. The induction generator is operated in indirect vector control mode, where the d-axis current controls the excitation level and the q-axis current controls the generator torque, by which the speed of the induction generator is controlled according to the variation of the wind speed In order to produce the maximum output power. The generated power flows into the utility grid through the back-to-back PWM converter. The line-side converter controls the dc link voltage by the q-axis current control and can control the line-side power factor by the d-axis current control. Experimental results are shown to verify the validity of the proposed scheme.

This paper present stabilization control of fixed speed wind generator by using variable speed permanent magnet wind generator in a wind farm connected with multi-machine power system. A novel direct-current based d-q vector control technique of back to back converter integrated with Fuzzy Logic Controller for optimal control configuration is proposed, in which both active and reactive powers delivered to a power grid system are controlled effectively. Simulation analyses have been performed using PSCAD/EMTDC. Simulation results show that the proposed control scheme is very effective to enhance the voltage stability of the wind farm during fault condition.
This paper describes a simple control structure and power conditioning system for an indirect vector controlled stand-alone induction generator (IG) used to operate under variable speed. The required reactive power for the IG system is supplied by means of a capacitor bank and a voltage-source PWM converter. Using a capacitor bank to transfer the reactive power to the IG under the rated speed and no-load conditions starts the IG operation and reduces the PWM converter size. The vector control structure for the variable speed IG power conditioning system compensates for changes in the electrical three-phase and DC loads while considering the magnetizing curve of the IG. The vector control structure is developed to regulate the DC link voltage of the PWM converter and the IG output voltage. The experimental and simulated performance results of the IG power conditioning system at various speeds and loads are given and show that this proposed scheme can be used efficiently for a variable speed, wind energy conversion system.
This paper presents a variable speed wind generation system where fuzzy logic controllers is used as efficiency optimizer. The fuzzy logic controller increments the machine flux by on-line search to improve the generator efficiency in case of light load. The speed of the induction generator is controlled according to the variation of the wind speed in order to produce the maximum output power The generator reference speed is adjusted according to the optimum tip-speed ratio. The complete control system has been developed by simulation study.
In the variable speed Wind Turbine based on ElectroMagnetic Coupler (WT-EMC), a synchronous generator is coupled directly to the grid. Therefore, like conventional power plants, WT-EMC is able to inherently support grid frequency. However, due to the reduced inertia of the synchronous generator, WT-EMC is expected to be controlled to increase its output power in response to a grid frequency drop to support grid frequency. Similar to the grid frequency support control of Type 3 or Type 4 wind turbine, inertial control and droop control can be used to calculate the WT-EMC additional output power reference according to the synchronous generator speed. In this paper, an experimental platform is built to study the grid frequency support from WT-EMC with inertial control and droop control. Two synchronous generators, driven by two induction motors controlled by two converters, are used to emulate the synchronous generators in conventional power plants and in WT-EMCs respectively. The effectiveness of the grid frequency support from WT-EMC with inertial control and droop control responding to a grid frequency drop is validated by experimental results. The selection of the grid frequency support controller and its gain for WT-EMC is analyzed briefly.
Control algorithms and implementation issues for a wind turbine simulator are presented for realistic emulation of variable wind characteristics using a lab-scale motor and generator set. When the average wind speed nd turbulence level is given, the torque reference of prime mover is decided through various blocks, such as random wind speed generator, blade characteristic curves, and tower effect compensation. The variable nature of wind can be implemented and tested by not only the computer simulation but also the hardware-in-loop-simulator (HILS). Some application examples of HILS include the development and test of turbine control software for more efficient and stable operation. Feasibility of the proposed simulator has verified by computer simulations and experiment.

This paper deals with the nodal admittance approach steady-state frequency domain analysis of the three-phase self-excited induction generator (SEIG) driven by the variable speed prime mover as the wind turbine. The steady-state performance analysis of this power conditioner designed for the renewable energy is based on the principle of equating the input mechanical power of the three-phase SEIG to the output mechanical power of the variable speed prime mover mentioned above. Us-ing the approximate frequency domain based equivalent circuit of the three-phase SEIG. The main features of the present algorithm of the steady-state performance analysis of the three-phase SEIG treated here are that the variable speed prime mover characteristics are included in the approximate equivalent circuit of the three-phase SEIG under the condition of the speed changes of the prime mover without complex computations processes. Furthermore, a feedback closed-loop voltage regulation of the three-phase SEIG as a power conditioner which is driven by variable speed prime movers such as the wind turbine(WT) employing the static VAR compensator(SVC) circuit composed of the thyristor phase controlled reactor(TCR) and the thyristor switched capacitor(TSC) controlled by the PI controller is designed and considered for wind-turbine driving power conditioner.
In this paper, a hardware design method is proposed for high speed high precision neutron radiation measurements. Our system is fabricated to use a high performance A/D Converter for digital data conversion of high precision and high speed analog signals. Using a neutron sensor, incident neutron radiation particles are detected; a precision microcurrent measurement module is also included: this module allows for more precise and rapid neutron radiation measurement design. The high speed high precision neutron measurement hardware system is composed of the neutron sensor, variable high voltage generator, microcurrent precision measurement component, embedded system, and display screen. The neutron sensor detects neutron radiation using high density polyethylene. The variable high voltage generator functions as a 0 ~ 2KV variable high voltage generator that is robust against heat and noise; this generator allows the neutron sensor to perform normally. The microcurrent precision measurement component employs a high performance A/D Converter to precisely and swiftly measure the high precision high speed microcurrent signal from the neutron sensor and to convert this analog signal into a digital one. The embedded system component performs multiple functions including neutron radiation measurement for high speed high precision neutron measurements, variable high voltage generator control, wired and wireless communications control, and data recording. Experiments using the proposed high speed high precision neutron measurement hardware shows that the hardware exhibits superior performance compared to that of conventional equipment with regard to measurement uncertainty, neutron measurement rate, accuracy, and neutron measurement range.
This study focuses on an advanced second-order sliding mode control strategy for a variable speed wind turbine based on a permanent magnet synchronous generator to maximize wind power extraction while simultaneously reducing the mechanical stress effect. The control design based on a modified version of the super-twisting algorithm with variable gains can be applied to the cascaded system scheme comprising the current control loop and speed control loop. The proposed control inheriting the well-known robustness of the sliding technique successfully deals with the problems of essential nonlinearity of wind turbine systems, the effects of disturbance regarding variation on the parameters, and the random nature of wind speed. In addition, the advantages of the adaptive gains and the smoothness of the control action strongly reduce the chatter signals of wind turbine systems. Finally, with comparison with the traditional super-twisting algorithm, the performance of the system is verified through simulation results under wind speed turbulence and parameter variations.
