With the trend of urban polynucleation, the issue of detecting economic clusters or urban employment centers has been considered as crucial. However, the prior researches had some limitations in detecting economic clusters in the empirical analysis: i.e. inherent inefficiency of density-based clustering methods, difficulty in detecting linear types of spatial clusters and lacks of consideration of economic significance. The purpose of this paper is to propose the clustering method with the procedure of testing statistical and economic significance named as VCEC (Variable Clumping method for Economic Clusters) and to apply it to a case analysis of Erie County, New York, in order to test its validity. By applying a search radius and a total employment as an economic threshold, 'the both statistically and economically significant clusters' were detected in the Erie County, and proved to be efficient.

MANET is depended on the property as like variable energy, high degree of mobility, location environments of nodes etc. So, in this paper, we propose an algorithm techniques which is TICC (Time Interval Clustering Control) based on energy value in property of each node for solving cluster problem. It provides improving cluster energy efficiency how can being node manage to order each node's energy level. TICC is clustering method. It has shown that Node's energy efficiency and life time are improved in MANET.

Insurers face increasing demands for cyber liability; entailed in part by a variety of new forms of risk of data breaches. As data breach occurrences develop, our understanding of the volatility in data breach counts has also become important as well as its expected occurrences. Volatility clustering, the tendency of large changes in a random variable to cluster together in time, are frequently observed in many financial asset prices, asset returns, and it is questioned whether the volatility of data breach occurrences are also clustered in time. We now present volatility analysis based on INGARCH models, i.e., integer-valued generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity time series model for frequency counts due to data breaches. Using the INGARCH(1, 1) model with data breach samples, we show evidence of temporal volatility clustering for data breaches. In addition, we present that the firms' volatilities are correlated between some they belong to and that such a clustering effect remains even after excluding the effect of financial covariates such as the VIX and the stock return of S&P500 that have their own volatility clustering.

The area under the ROC curve (AUC) is one of the most common criteria used to measure the overall performance of binary classifiers for a wide range of machine learning problems. In this article, we propose a L1-penalized AUC-optimization classifier that directly maximizes the AUC for high-dimensional data. Toward this, we employ the AUC-consistent surrogate loss function and combine the L1-norm penalty which enables us to estimate coefficients and select informative variables simultaneously. In addition, we develop an efficient optimization algorithm by adopting k-means clustering and proximal gradient descent which enjoys computational advantages to obtain solutions for the proposed method. Numerical simulation studies demonstrate that the proposed method shows promising performance in terms of prediction accuracy, variable selectivity, and computational costs.
Speaker diarization is the task of determining the speakers for unlabeled data, and DBSCAN (Density-Based Spatial Clustering of Applications with Noise) has been widely used in the field of speaker diarization for its simplicity and computational efficiency. One challenging issue, however, is that if different clusters in non-spatial dataset are adjacent to each other, over-clustering may occur which subsequently degrades the performance of DBSCAN. In this paper, we identify the drawbacks of DBSCAN and propose a new density clustering algorithm based on local distribution property around object. Variable density criterions for local density and spreadness of object are used for effective data clustering. We compare the proposed algorithm to DBSCAN in terms of clustering accuracy. Experimental results confirm that the proposed algorithm exhibits higher accuracy than DBSCAN without over-clustering and confirm that the new approach based on local density and object spreadness is efficient.

In this paper we introduce a modified objective function for fuzzy c-means clustering with logistic regression model in the presence of noise cluster. The logistic regression model is commonly used to describe the effect of one or several explanatory variables on a binary response variable. In real application there is very often no sharp boundary between clusters so that fuzzy clustering is often better suited for the data.
In high dimensionality where the number of variables are excessively larger than observations, it is required to remove the noninformative variables to cluster observations. Most model-based approaches for variable selection have been considered under the assumption of homoscedasticity and their models are mainly estimated by a penalized likelihood method. In this paper, a different approach is proposed to remove the noninformative variables effectively and to cluster based on the modified normal mixture model simultaneously. The validity of the model was provided and an EM algorithm was derived to estimate the parameters. Simulation studies and an experiment using real microarray dataset showed the effectiveness of the proposed method.
Single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) data consists of each cell's RNA expression extracted from large populations of cells. One main purpose of using scRNA-seq data is to identify inter-cellular heterogeneity. However, scRNA-seq data pose statistical challenges when applying traditional clustering methods because they have many missing values and high level of noise due to technical and sampling issues. In this paper, motivated by analyzing scRNA-seq data, we propose a novel spectral-based clustering method by imposing different weights on genes when computing a similarity between cells. Assigning weights on genes and clustering cells are performed simultaneously in the proposed clustering framework. We solve the proposed non-convex optimization using an iterative algorithm. Both real data application and simulation study suggest that the proposed clustering method better identifies underlying clusters compared with existing clustering methods.

In this paper, we propose a new robust content-based musical genre classification algorithm using multi-feature clustering(MFC) method. In contrast to previous works, this paper focuses on two practical issues of the system dependency problem on different input query patterns(or portions) and input query lengths which causes serious uncertainty of the system performance. In order to solve these problems, a new approach called multi-feature clustering(MFC) based on k-means clustering is proposed. To verify the performance of the proposed method, several excerpts with variable duration were extracted from every other position in a queried music file. Effectiveness of the system with MFC and without MFC is compared in terms of the classification accuracy. It is demonstrated that the use of MFC significantly improves the system stability of musical genre classification performance with higher accuracy rate.
In this paper, we propose a variable vocabulary word recognizer that is able to recognize new words not exist in training data. For the variable vocabulary word recognizer, we must have an on-line lexicon generator to transform new candidate words to the corresponding pronunciation sequences of phones without any large lexicon table. And, we also must make outputs. In order to model the phones and allophones reliably, we define Korean allophones by triphone clustering based on phonetic knowledge of preceding and succeeding phones of each phone. Using the clustering method, we generated 1,548 allophones with POW (Phonetically Optimized Words) 3,848 word DB. We evaluated the proposed word recognizer with POW 3,848 DB, PBW (Phonetically Balanced Words) 445 DB, and 244 word DB in hotel reservation task. Experimental results showed word recognition accuracy of 79.6% for the POW DB corresponding to vocabulary-dependent case, 79.4% in case of 445 word lexicon and 88.9% in case of 100 word lexicon for the PBW DB, and 71.4% for the hotel reservation DB corresponding to vocabulary-independent case.
