Fabrication of Photoluminescent Dye Embedded PMMA Nanofiber and its Fluorescence Resonance Energy Transfer

  • The FRET property has been extensively studied from the theoretical view points to the practical applications. In case that the donor and acceptor are confined in nanodimension, the FRET effectively occurs, because of their distant dependent characteristic. However, there are no reports concerning FRET with one dimensional (1D) nanomaterial. We have successfully prepared the PMMA nanotubes using vapor deposition polymerization as the platform of FRET. The dye-PMMA composite nanofiber has also been produced without phase separation and any deterioration of properties of the dyes. The PMMA 1D nanocomposite doped two dyes with great spectral overlap between donor and acceptor displayed FRET property.

Apatite Formation on Polythylene Modified with Silanols by Grafting of Vinyltrimethoxysilane and Subsequent Hydrolysis

  • Polyethylene was modified with silanol groups on its surface by photografting of vinyltrimethoxysilane in vapor phase by using benzophenon as a polymerization initiator and by hydrolyzing the methoxysilane groups into the silanol groups with HCI solution. The modified polyethylene formed a dense and homogeneous apatite layer on its surface in a solution with ion concentrations 1.5 times those of human blood plasma within 21 days. This kind of biomimetic process could provide techniques for fabricating apatite-polymer composites with three dimensional structure analogous to the natural bone.

Study on Poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) Thin Film Vapour Phase-Polymerized with Iron(III)Tosylate on High Quality 3-Aminopropyltriethoxysilane Self-Assembled Monolayer

  • In this study, PEDOT thin films polymerized with Iron(III)tosylate ($Fe(PTS)_3$) and grown on atomically smooth and highly dense 3-aminopropyltriethoxysilane self-assembled monolayer (APS-SAM) surfaces by VPP method have been investigated. PEDOT thin films were synthesized on APS self-assembled $SiO_2$ wafer surface at two different concentrations (20 wt% and 40 wt%) and growth time (3 and 30 minutes), and then their sheet resistance were measured and compared. PEDOT thin films grown with 20 wt% $Fe(PTS)_3$ oxidant are highly conductive when compared with the film grown with 40 wt% $Fe(PTS)_3$, as ascertained by the measured sheet resistance values down to 0.06 ${\Omega}/cm$. It clearly suggests that 20 wt% is more effective oxidant concentration for VPP than 40 wt% even though the film grown with 40 wt% oxidant has better quality than the film with 20 wt% $Fe(PTS)_3$ does.

  • Application of self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) to the fabrication of organic thin film transistor has been recently reported very often since it can help to provide ohmic contact between films as well as to form simple and effective electrode pattern. Accordingly, quality of these ultra-thin films is becoming more imperative. In this study, in order to manufacture a high quality SAM pattern, a hydrophobic alkylsilane monolayer and a hydrophilic aminosilane monolayer were selectively coated on $SiO_2$ surface through the consecutive procedures of a micro-contact printing (${\mu}CP$) and dip-coating methods under extremely dry condition. On a SAM pattern cleaned with SC1 solution immediately after ${\mu}CP$, poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) source and drain electrode array were very selectively and nicely vapour phase polymerized. On the other side, on a SC1-untreated SAM pattern, PEDOT array was very poorly polymerized. It strongly suggests that the SC1 cleaning process effectively removes unwanted contaminants on SAM pattern, thereby resulting in very selective growth of PEDOT electrode pattern.

Base Inhibitor를 이용한 고전도도의 PEDOT박막의 제작

  • PEDOT[Poly(3,4-Ethylenedioxythiophene)]박막의 제작은 산화촉매제를 이용한 기상중합(Vapor Phase Polymerization)방법을 통해 최근 활발히 연구되어 지고 있다. 기상중합된 PEDOT박막의 특성은 박막의 중합의 정도와 성장 형상에 따라 그 특성이 크게 좌우된다. PEODT박막의 효율적인 중합에 있어 산화촉매제의 균일한 도포는 매우 중요하다. PEDOT의 효율적인 중합과 균일도포를 위해 산화촉매제에 DUDO와 PEG-PPG-PEG를 첨가한 혼합용액을 제작 VPP방법을 통해 PEDOT박막의 제작을 시도하였다. 그 결과 spin-coating 시 산화촉매 혼합용액의 균일한 도포가 관찰 되었으며 산화촉매제만 사용하여 제작된 박막에 비해 전도도와 막질이 향상된 PEDOT박막이 제작되었다. 이러한 결과는 산화촉매용액에 첨가된 PEG-PPG-PEG와 DUDO의 영향으로 PEG-PPG-PEG는 oxdiant용액의 균일 도포를 도왔으며 Inhibitor로 작용하는 DUDO는 PEDOT성장에 있어 불균일 결정성장을 억제하여 조밀한 PEDOT 박막 성장을 도운 것으로 생각된다. PEDOT 박막의 특성평가에는 Field Emission-Scanning Electron Microscopy, 4-Pointprobe, Optical microscopy 등이 사용되었다. 이러한 고전도도의 PEDOT박막을 OTFT의 전극소재로 사용한다면 OTFT소자의 성능 향상에있어 크게 기여 할 것으로 기대된다.

막증류 담수화를 위한 친수성/소수성 이중 표면 코팅 (Hydrophilic/Hydrophobic Dual Surface Coatings for Membrane Distillation Desalination)

  • Membrane distillation (MD) has emerged as a sustainable desalination technology to solve the water and energy problems faced by the modern society. In particular, the surface wetting properties of the membrane have been recognized as a key parameter to determine the performance of the MD system. In this study, a novel surface modification technique was developed to induce a Janus-type hydrophilic/hydrophobic layer on the membrane surface. The hydrophilic layer was created on a porous PVDF membrane by vapor phase polymerization of the pyrrole monomer, forming a thin coating of polypyrrole on the membrane walls. A rigid polymeric coating layer was created without compromising the membrane porosity. The hydrophilic coating was then followed by the in-situ growth of siloxane nanoparticles, where the condensation of organosilane provided quick loading of hydrophobic layers on the membrane surface. The composite layers of dual coatings allowed systematic control of the surface wettability of porous membranes. By the virtue of the photothermal property of the hydrophilic polypyrrole layer, the desalination performance of the coated membrane was tested in a solar MD system. The wetting properties of the dual-layer were further evaluated in a direct-contact MD module, exploring the potential of the Janus membrane structure for effective and low-energy desalination.

Methyl tert-Butylether 合成에 미치는 HZSM-5 觸媒의 SiO$_2/Al_2O_3$ 比의 영향 (Effect of SiO$_2/Al_2O_3$ Ratio of HZSM-5 Catalyst on the Synthesis of Methyl tert-butylether)

  • HZSM-5를 觸媒로 하여 메탄올과 이소부틸렌으로부터 Methyl tertiary butyl ether(MTBE)의 氣相合成實驗을 하였으며, zeolite 觸媒의 SiO$_2/Al_2O_3$ 比 및 反應條件의 영향을 硏究하였다. 각 觸媒들은 pyridine을 吸着시켜 temperature programmed desorption(TPD) 및 IR法으로 酸點의 세기와 特性을 조사하였으며, 승온탈착실험을 통하여 각 反應物 및 生成物의 吸着特性을 검토하였다. HZSM-5의 SiO$_2/Al_2O_3$比가 증가할수록 强한 酸點의 수는 감소하여 메탄올의 脫水反應은 억제되고 MTBE에 대한 선택도가 증가하였다. MTBE에 대한 전환율과 선택도는 $i-C_4H_8$의 細孔內 확산저항에 의하여 큰 영향을 받음을 알 수 있었다. MTBE合成反應은 發熱的이어서, 전반적으로 80$^{\circ}$C의 반응온도가 合成에 적합하였다. 한편 각 觸媒上에 生成된 coke의 特性을 TG, DTA 및 IR spectrum으로 측정하였다. 침착된 coke의 量은 HY > H-Mordenite > HZSM-5順이었으며, H-Mordenite에 있어서는 누적된 coke의 양이 HZSM-5보다 현저하지는 않았으나, 細孔의 配向이 1方向性이므로 반응시간이 길어짐에 따라 심한 活性減退가 일어났다. HY는 큰 細孔을 가지고 있어 M$i-C_4H_8$의 重合이 쉽게 일어났으며, HZSM-5에 비하여 많은 coke의 참착과 빠른 活性減退를 나타내었다.
