  • In the present research, we prepared the activated carbon (AC) sorbents to remove gas-phase mercury. The mercury adsorption of virgin AC, chemically treated AC and fly ash was performed. Sulfur impregnated and sulfuric acid impregnated ACs were used as the chemically treated ACs. A simulated flue gas was made of SOx, NOx and mercury vapor in nitrogen balance. A reduced mercury adsorption capacity was obtained with the simulated gas as compared with that containing only mercury vapor in nitrogen. With the simulated gas, the sulfuric acid treated AC showed the highest performance, but it might have the problem of corrosion due to the emission of sulfuric acid. It was also found that the high sulfur impregnated AC also released a portion of sulfur at $140^{\circ}C$. Thus, it was concluded that the low sulfur impregnated AC was suitable for the treatment of flue gas in terms of stability and efficiency.

  • This paper describes the generation and decay phenomena of gas, vapor and particulate phase components of environmental tobacco smoke in 18 m3 controlled experimental atmosphere chamber. Real time-weighted average concentration ratios of markers were determinated at no ventilation rates and sampling durations of starting to smoking 45 min. Average concentration of major ETS markers was no significant on the mainstream smoke contents of commercial cigarette and decay ratios were dependent on first order kinetic. RSP/nicotine, solanesol and 3-EP were good predictors of ETS concentration in the public indoor field. The concentration ratio of vapor phase and particulate phase components is highly variable to assessment of indoor air quality with ETS. Key words : ETS, chamber study, ETS markers.

  • Processing of thin films by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) is accompanied by chemical reactions, in which the rigorous kinetic analysis is difficult to achieve. In these conditions, thermodynamic calculation leads to better understanding of the CVD process and helps to optimise the experimental parameters to obtain a desired product. A CVD phase diagram has been used as guide lines for the process. By determining the effect of each process variable on the driving force for deposition, the thermodynamic limit for the substrate temperature that diamond can deposit is calculated in the C-H system by assuming that the limit is defined by the CVD diamond phase diagram. The addition of iso-supersaturation ratio lines to the CVD phase diagram in the Si-Cl-H system provides additional information about the effects of CVD process variables.

  • The effects of reaction temperature and precursor concentration on the microstructure and magnetic properties of ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ nanoparticles synthesized as final products of iron acetylacetonate in chemical vapor condensation (CVC) were investigated. Pure ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ phase was obtained at temperature above $900^{\circ}C$ and crystallite size of ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ nanoparticles decreased with lowering precursor concentration. Also, the coercivity decreases with decreasing crystallite size of nanopowder. The lowest coercivity was 7.8 Oe, which was obtained from the ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ nanopowder sample synthesized at precursor concentration of 0.3M. Then, the crystallite size of ${\gamma}-Fe_2O_3$ nanoparticles was 8.8 nm.

  • Metal-Organic Vapor Phase Epitaxy (MOVPE) is an epitaxial process utilizaing ane or more of organometallice as reactnte to grow compound semicond semiconductror layers. MOVPE is basically a cold wall process in which reactants are delivered without reacting with each other to the heated substrate where reactants are thermally decomposed to from compound semiconductors through chemical reaction. Since reactants are delivered as gas phase and the formation of the single crystal compunds depends on the thermal decomposition of the reactants, details of MOVPE relies on the hydrodynamics and pyroltsis and chemical reation of reactants inside on reaction chamber. It has been demonstrated that MOVPE is capable of growing virtually all of the III-V, II-VI and IV-VI compound semiconductrs, fabricating ultrathin epilayers, for ming abrupt hetrointerfaces with monolayer transition width, and is suitable for multi-wafer operation yilding a high throghtput. Overiew of reactror componts and layer, characteristics, and status of MOVPE are discussed.

  • Using the multi-dimensional, multi-phase, nonisothermal Polymer Electrolyte Fuel Cell (PEFC) model presented in Part I, the effects of land/channel flow-field on temperature and liquid saturation distributions inside PEFCs are investigated in Part II. The focus is placed on exploring the coupled water transport and heat transfer phenomena within the nonisothermal and two-phase zone existing in the diffusion media (DM) of PEFCs. Numerical simulations are performed varying the land and channel widths and simulation results reveal that the water profile and temperature rise inside PEFCs are considerably altered by changing the land and channel widths, which indicates that oxygen supply and heat removal from the channel to the land regions and liquid water removal from the land toward the gas channels are key factors in determining the water and temperature distributions inside PEFCs. In addition, the adverse liquid saturation gradient along the thru-plane direction is predicted near the land regions by the numerical model, which is due to the vapor-phase diffusion driven by the temperature gradient in the nonisothermal two-phase DM where water evaporates at the hotter catalyst layer, diffuses as a vapor form and then condenses on the cooler land region. Therefore, the vapor phase diffusion exacerbates DM flooding near the land region, while it alleviates DM flooding near the gas channel.

  • The cooling of a injector effects on the vapor pressure of cryogenic oxidizer spray, and it decides the phase transition point at the ignition process, when the combustion chamber pressure increases drastically. The phase transition of oxidizer spray affects the ignition characteristics, and several ignition tests with the LOx/$GCH_4$ uni-element coaxial swirl injector was performed in the different initial temperatures of oxidizer injector, in order to investigate the effect of injector cooling on the ignition transient characteristics. At the transition point of oxidizer phase, where the combustion chamber pressure increased over the LOx vapor pressure, the temporary quenching phenomenon of the flame occurred. The lower temperature of chilled down injector and tubing tends to move up the phase transition earlier.

  • Double-layered polymer films to assay the radioactive contamination were formulated using polysulfone (PSF) and cerium activated yttrium silicate (CAYS), consisting of a dense support layer and a CAYS-holding top layer prepared via the diffusion-induced phase inversion. As the vapor exposure process was omitted, the CAYS-holding layer showed a typical asymmetric structure, with CAYS being transfixed into the polymer network spread with large macropores. With the increase in vapor exposure time before immersion, morphology of the films transformed from asymmetric to sponge-like structures, with CAYS being localized in cellular structure. The border structure between the two layers reflects the phase inversion behavior of a cast solution during the coagulation. In the radioactive detection, the polymer phase in a film holding a sponge-like structure is so dense that the radionuclides, deposited on the film, could not filter through the phase, consequently resulting in the loss in the detection efficiency of the film.

  • Na-β"-Al2O3 has been widely employed as a solid electrolyte for high-temperature sodium (Na) beta-alumina batteries (NBBs) thanks to its superb thermal stability and high ionic conductivity. Recently, a vapor phase conversion (VPC) method has been newly introduced to fabricate thin Na-β"-Al2O3 electrolytes by converting α-Al2O3 into β"-Al2O3 in α-Al2O3/yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) composites under Na+ and O2- dual percolation environments. One of the main challenges that need to be figured out is lowered conductivity due to the large volume fraction of the non-Na+-conducting YSZ. In this study, the effect of lithia addition in the β"-Al2O3 phase on the grain size and ionic conductivity of Na-β"-Al2O3/YSZ solid electrolytes have been investigated in order to enhance the conductivity of the electrolyte. The amount of pre-added lithia (Li2O) precursor as a phase stabilizer was varied at 0, 1, 2, 3, and 4 mol% against that of Al2O3. It turns out that ionic conductivity increases even with 1 mol% lithia addition and reaches 67 mS cm-1 at 350 ℃ of its maximum with 3 mol%, which is two times higher than that of the undoped composite.

  • The purpose of this study is to see the remediability and pilot system operating condition on diesel contaminated areas. Air permeability(k) and trend of gas phase ($O_2/CO_2/VOCs$) concentration to determine the remediation rate of the contaminated sites are very important. So we tested air permeability and trend of gas phase concentration. Throughout soil vapor extraction(SVE) and bioventing hybrid pilot test on different conditions, the range of air permeability(k) was 1985~1194 darcy. The tests result in soil vapor extraction and bioventing hybrid system was appropriate on this test sites, and the suitable injection air flow rate was $3.5m^3/hr$.
