Aligned carbon nanotubes(CNTs) array were synthesized using DC plasma-enhanced chemical vapor deposition. Silicon substrate Ni-coated of 5nm thickness were pretreated by $NH_3$ gas with a flow rate of 180sccm, for 10min. CNTs were grown on the pretreated substrates at $30%\;C_2H_2:NH_3$ flow ratios for 10min. Carbon nanotubes with diameters from 60 to 80 nanometers and lengths about 2.7 micrometers were obtained. Vertical alignment of carbon nanotubes were observed by FESEM.

The asymmetric hollow fiber membranes were prepared by the wet spining of polyetherimide dope solution and the effect of hollow fiber structures on the permeation characteristics of carbon dioxide and nitrogen gases through these membrane were investigated. As the concentration of the $\gamma$-butyrolactone (GBL) in dope solution, acting as a swelling agent was increased, the structure of hollow fiber was changed from the finger to sponge type. The permeabilities of gases (CO$_{2}$, N$_{2}$) through these membrane were measured over the wide range of pressure under different temperature. The effect of water vapor on the permeabilities of gases was also investigated. The measured permeabilities showed the different characteristics depending on the structure of membranes. It was found that the flow through the pores were dominant over the polymers matrix. Blocking effect by water vapor in the pores of skin layer greatly improved the ideal separation factor of carbon dioxide/nitrogen.

A study of aerosol dynamics has been done to obtain axially and radially varying size distributions of particles generated in the Modified Chemical Vapor Deposition process. Heat and mass transfer have also been studied since particle generation and deposition strongly depend on the temperature field in a tube. Bimodal size distributions of particles have been obtained both in the particulate flow and in the deposited particle layer for the first time using the sectional method to solve aerosol dynamics. Variations of geometric mean diameter, geometric standard deviation have been studied for various parameters; flow rates and maximum wall temperature. The comparison between one-dimensional and two-dimensional approaches has also been made.
This paper performed experimental research in order to measure boiling heat transfer coefficient of water in microchannel with hydraulic diameter of $500{\mu}m$. Tests were conducted within the ranges of heat fluxes from 100 to 400 kW/$m^2$, vapor qualities from 0 to 0.2, and mass fluxes of 200, 400, and 600 kg/$m^2s$. From the experimental results, it was found that flow boiling heat transfer coefficient is not dependent on mass flux or vapor quality, but instead on heat flux to a certain degree. The measured data of heat transfer are compared to a few available correlations proposed for mini-channels. Among them, Sun and Mishima's correlation is found to predict the present data well, within the mean absolute error of 17.84%.

This paper deals with heat and mass transfer characteristics and performance evaluation of a counter flow double-tube condenser for a multi-component refrigerant mixture. The local heat and mass transfer characteristics of ternary zeotropic refrigerant mixtures composed of HFC32/HFC125/HFC134a are evaluated for a counter flow double-tube condenser cooled by water. Then, the local values of vapor quality, thermodynamic states at bulk vapor, vapor-liquid interface and bulk liquid, heat flux and condensation mass flux are obtained. The heat exchange performance for ternary zeotropic refrigerant mixtures composed of HFC32/HFC125/HFC134a on the total pressure drop and the heat transfer characteristics are also compared with those for R404A, R410A, R502, R22, R32, Rl23 and R134a.

A dynamic model which simulates the coupled heat and mass transfer within a vertical tube absorber was developed. The liquid film is a binary mixture of two components, and both of these components are present in the vapor phase. The pressure, concentration, temperature and mass flow rate of the vapor are obtained by assuming that the pressure is uniform within an absorber. The model was applied to an absorber for an ammonia/water absorption refrigerator. The transient behaviors of the pressure, the outlet temperature and the concentration of the solution and the cooling water outlet temperature on a step change at the absorber inlet of the cooling water temperature, the vapor mass flow rate and the concentration of the solution were shown.
Nano-scaled metal oxides have been attractive materials for sensors, photocatalysis, and dye-sensitization for solar cells. We report the controlled synthesis and characterization of single crystalline $TiO_2$ nanowires via a catalyst-assisted vapor-liquid-solid (VLS) and vapor-solid (VS) growth mechanism during TiO powder evaporation. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) and transmission electron microscope (TEM) studies show that as grown $TiO_2$ materials are one-dimensional (1D) nano-structures with a single crystalline rutile phase. Also, energy-dispersive X-ray (EDX) spectroscopy indicates the presence of both Ti and O with a Ti/O atomic ratio of 1 to 2. Various morphologies of single crystalline $TiO_2$ nano-structures are realized by controlling the growth temperature and flow rate of carrier gas. Large amount of reactant evaporated at high temperature and high flow rate is crucial to the morphology change of $TiO_2$ nanowire.

During the Hg2Br2 physical vapor transport process, with increasing the partial pressure of component B, PB from 40 Torr to 200 Torr, a unicellular convective flow structures move from the crystal growth region to the center region in the vapor phase. The boundary layer flow is dominant for PB = 40 Torr, and the core region flow is dominant for PB = 200 Torr. The flow in the vapor phase shows a three-dimensional convective flow structure with a single cell (unicellular) for PB = 40 Torr and 200 Torr, exhibits an asymmetrical flow with respect to the x, y central axis under the horizontally oriented configuration with an aspect ratio (length-to-width) of 3 and linear conducting walls. The critical temperature difference between the source and crystal region is about 30 K. The total molar flux of Hg2Br2 increases with the temperature difference until the total molar flux reaches the critical value. At the critical total molar flux, the total molar flux abruptly decreases.

Potential advantages of using vapor injection in a two stage rotary compressor for a $CO_2$ heat pump water heater system were addressed in this paper by numerical simulation. Vapor separated from a flash tank in the middle of the expansion process can be used for injection into the second stage suction plenum of the compressor to improve the system performance. Vapor injection increases the intermediate pressure between the two stages, thus increasing the first stage compressor work and reducing that of the second stage. As a whole, however, the compressor input power increases due to injected mass flow rate for the second stage. Computer simulation showed that increment of the cooling capacity by vapor injection exceeded that of the compressor work, thus improving the system performance. COP improvement by vapor injection was calculated to be about 5-14% for normal operating conditions. With vapor injection, a maximum COP was found when the displacement volume of the second stage becomes 90-95% of that of the first stage of the compressor.

The influence of the water vapor on the growth of single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) was investigated. SWCNTs were synthesized by catalytic chemical vapor deposition of acetylene over Fe-Mo/MgO catalyst with injection of water vapor. The morphologies and structures of the water-assisted SWCNTs were investigated according to the growth conditions such as water vapor concentrations, flow rate of the gas, furnace temperature, and growth time. Water-assisted SWCNTs exhibited large bundle morphological features with well-alignment of each CNT, while SWCNTs synthesized in the absence of water vapor showed entangled CNT with the random orientation. We also found that the diameter of the SWCNT bundle could be controlled by the growth condition. In our optimal growth condition, the product yield and the purity were 300 wt. % and 75%, which were 7.5 and 2.5 times higher than those of SWCNTs synthesized without water vapor, respectively. More detail discussion will be offered at the poster presentation.
