Vanadium oxide thin films with thickness of about 2000 $\AA$ have been prepared by radio frequency sputter deposition using a V2O5 target in a mixed argon and oxygen atmosphere with different Ar/O2 ratio ranging from 99/1 to 90/10. X-ray diffraction and X-ray absorption near edge structure spectroscopic studies show that the oxygen content higher than 5% crystallizes a stoichiometric V2O5 phase, while oxygen deficient phase is formed in the lower oxygen content. The oxygen content in the mixed Ar + O2 has a significant influence on electrochemical lithium insertion/deinsertion property. The discharge-charge capacity of vanadium oxide film increases with increasing the reactive oxygen content. The V2O5 film deposited at the Ar/O2 ratio of 90/10 exhibits high discharge capacity of 100 ${\mu}Ah/cm2-{\mu}m$ along with good cycle performance.
Vanadium oxide-zirconia catalysts were prepared by dry impregnation of powdered Zr(OH)4 with aqueous solution of NH4VO3. The characterization of prepared catalysts was performed using 51V solid state NMR, XRD, and DSC. The addition of vanadium oxide up to 9 mol% to zirconia shifted the phase transitions of ZrO2 from amorphous to tetragonal toward higher temperatures due to the interaction between vanadium oxide and zirconia. On the basis of results of XRD and DSC, it is concluded that the content of V2O5 monolayer covering most of the available zirconia was 9 mol%. The crystalline V2O5 was observed only with the samples containing V2O5 content exceeding the formation of complete monolayer (9 mol%) on the surface of ZrO2.
Structure and their redox property of the vanadium oxides prepared by decomposing NH₄VO₃ at various temperatures were studied by XRD, SEM, XPS, and temperature programmed reduction/temperature programmed oxidation (TPR/TPO) experiment. All TPR profiles have two sharp peaks in the temperature range 650-750℃, and the area ratio of the two sharp peaks changed from sample to sample. There were three redox steps in TPR/TPO profiles. The oxidation proceeded in the reverse order of the reduction process, and both the reactions proceeded via quite a stable intermediates. The changes of the morphological factor $(I_{(101)}/I_{(010)})$, the ratio of $O_{1S}$ peak area (O$_{1S}$( α)/O$_{1S}$( β)) in the XPS results, and the ratio of hydrogen consumption in TPR profiles with various vanadium oxides showed the distinct relationship between the structural property and their redox property of vanadium oxides. The change of the specific yield of phthalic anhydride with various vanadium oxides showed a very similar trend to those of the peak area ratio in TPR profiles, which meant that the first reduction step related to the partial oxidation of o-xylene on the vanadium oxide catalyst.
Supported vanadium oxides are being used extensively as catalysts for a variety of reactions, including partial oxidations and ammoxidations. A series of vanadium oxide supported on TiO2-ZrO2 was obtained by impregnating ammonium metavanadate slowly into a mixed precipitateof Ti(OH)4-Zr(OH)4, followed by calcining in air at high temperatures. The prepared catalysts were characterized by 51V solid-state NMR. In the calcined catalysts 51V NMR studies indicated the peaks corresponding to distorted tetrahedral vanadia species at low V2O5 contents and octahedral vanadia species at high vanadia loadings. These results illustrate the suitability of 51V NMR as a unique quantitative spectroscopic tool in the structural analysis of vanadium(V) oxide catalytic materials.

The demands to improve the performance of the vanadium redox flow battery have attracted an intense research on modifying the carbon-based electrode. In this study, the surface of graphite felt was reformed, using cobalt oxide. The cobalt oxide was implanted into graphite felt during hydrothermal and two step heat treatments. The cobalt was deposited by hydrothermal method and the two step heat treatments made lots of holes on the graphite felt surface which is called as porous surface. The porous surface acts as an electrochemically active site for the cathodic reaction of vanadium redox flow battery. The reformed electrode shows the electrochemically improved performance compared with the pristine electrode.

Thin films of vanadium oxide(VOx) have been deposited by r.f. magnetron sputtering from V$_2$O$\_$5/ target in gas mixture of argon and oxygen. Crystal structure, surface morphology, chemical composition, molecular structure and optical properites of films in-situ annealed in O$_2$ambient with various heat-treatment conditions are characterized through XRD, SEM, AES, RBS, RTIR and optical absorption measurements. The films annealed below 200$\^{C}$ are amorphous, and those annealed above 300$\^{C}$ are polycrystalline. The growth of grains and the transition of vanadium oxide into the higher oxide have been observed with increasing the annealing temperature and time. The increase of O/V ratio with increasing the annealing temperature and time is attributed to the diffusion of oxygen and the partial filling of oxygen vacancies. It is observed that the oxygen atoms located on the V-O plane of V$_2$O$\_$5/ layer participate more readily in the oxidation process. Also indirect and direct optical band gaps were increased with increasing the annealing temperature and time.

Thin films of vanadium oxide(V$O_x$) have been deposited by r.f. magnetron sputtering from $V_2$$O_5$ prget in gas mixture of argon and oxygen. Crystal structure, surface morphology, chemical composition and bonding properties of films in-situ annealed in $O_2$ ambient with various heat-treatment conditions are characterized through XRD, SEM, AES, RBS and FTIR measurements. The filrns annealed below 200 $^{\circ}C$are amorphous, and those annealed above 30$0^{\circ}C$ are polycrystalline. The growth of grains and the transition of vanadium oxide into the higher oxide have been obsenred with increasing the annealing temperature and time. The increase of O/V ratio with increasing the annealing temperature and time is attributed to the diffusion of oxygen and the partial filling of oxygen vacancies. It is observed that the oxygen atoms located on the V-0 plane of $V_2$$O_5$ layer participate more readily in the oxidation process.
Effect on hydrothermal treatment of lamellar vanadium oxides was investigated and the formation of hexagonal and cubic mesophase was found. This lamellar materials were prepared by mixing of cetyltrimethylammonium-bromide and pH-controlled sodium metavanadate solution. Thermal method and UV/O₃treatment were applied to extract organic template. The structure of resulting product was studied by powder X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy (TEM).
A vanadium pentoxide ($V_2O_5$)-based bolometric infrared (IR) sensor has been designed and fabricated using micro electro mechanical systems (MEMS) technology for glucose detection and its resistive characteristics has been illustrated. The proposed bolometric infrared sensor is composed of the vanadium pentoxide array that shows superior temperature coefficient of resistance (TCR) and standard silicon micromachining compatibility. In order to achieve the best performance, deposited $V_2O_5$ thin film is optimized by adequate rapid thermal annealing (RTA) process. Annealed vanadium oxide thin film has demonstrated a linear characteristic and relatively high TCR value (${-4}%/^{\circ}C$). The resistance of vanadium oxide is changed by IR intensity based on glucose concentration.

Carbon felt electrode for the vanadium redox-flow battery (VRFB) has been studied to see the effect of grephene oxide (GO) treatment on the surface of the carbon felt electrode. In this paper, surface of carbon felt electrodes were treated with various concentrations of grephene oxide. Electrochemical analysis, cyclic voltammetry (CV), was performed to investigate redox characteristics as electrode for VRFB. Also the effect of GO on the introduction of functional group on the surface of carbon felt electrodes were investigated using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), which discovered increase in the overall functional group content on the surface of carbon felts.
