  • In general, it may be advantageous to measure the pressure pulsation near a valve to detect a valve defect in a linear compressor. However, the acceleration signals are more advantageous for rapid classification in a mass-production line. This paper deals with the performance improvement of fault classification using only the compressor-shell acceleration signal based on the relation between the refrigerant pressure pulsation and the shell acceleration of the compressor. A transfer function was estimated experimentally to take into account the signal noise ratio between the pressure pulsation of the refrigerant in the suction pipe and the shell acceleration. The shell acceleration signal of the compressor was modified using this transfer function to improve the defect classification performance. The defect classification of the modified signal was evaluated in the acceleration signal in the frequency domain using Fisher's discriminant ratio (FDR). The defect classification method was validated by experimental data. By using the method presented, the classification of valve defects can be performed rapidly and efficiently during mass production.

  • In this paper, we have estimated the performance of an overflow valve for EURO type CRDI(common rail direct injection) engine. In order to implement the overflow valve with friendly circumstance, it is necessity for considering spring load. Especially, the performance evaluation of diesel car with accuracy control will be considered a mileage improvement and circumstance regulation. In order to evaluate the performance of overflow valve, The leak test system checks the pressure, switching time and operating time under 3.0 bar below 100 cc, 3.3 bar among 150 cc and 200 cc, finally 4.0 bar upper 250 cc.

  • Butterfly valves are widely used as control valves for industrial process. For the definition of optimum configuration of the valve, wide range of related studies has been actively conducted in the case of working fluids of water or air under the normal temperature. Recently, internal flow and performance characteristics of cryogenic butterfly valve for LNG carrier take a growing interest in the field of research and development. Therefore, present study is aimed to investigate the internal flow and performance characteristics of the cryogenic butterfly valve because the study result for the valve can be hardly found at present. Part 1 of this paper describes the study result of a butterfly valve model under the condition of the normal temperature. Succeeding Part 2 of this paper will describe the internal flow characteristics of a cryogenic butterfly valve for LNG carrier. The results of Part 1 show that pressure loss coefficients and flow rate coefficients obtained by the present experiment and CFD analysis agree well each other. Moreover, internal flow visualization for the valve by CFD analysis and PIV measurement have revealed complicated flow patterns of the internal flow field in detail.

  • In the steam system, a stream trap valve discharges a condensate and a non-condensable gas. It also prevents stream from being leaked. The free float stream trap valve is a mechanical type of stream trap. The valve is opened when a hallow ball is floated due to the density of the condensate through the condensate flows into the valve. On the other hand, when the flow of the condensate is completed, the valve is closed as the float subsides due to the weight of the structure and the stream is blocked. In addition, the bimetal lifts the hallow ball, which discharges the non-condensable gas. In this study, the performance of the properties of the free float stream trap valve, the method of support for three points, and the orifice design are researched. Moreover, the condensate discharge capacity of the free float stream trap valve is calculated from the experiment.

  • A rear axle steering (RAS) system is attached to the rear of medium and large commercial vehicles that transport large cargo. The existing RAS systems are driven by electro-hydraulic actuator (EHA), and most commercialized EHAs consist of electric motors, hydraulic pumps, relief valves, prefill valves and cylinders. The prefill valve required for such EHAs is a type of check valve with extremely low cracking pressure that should not allow RAS to have noise or vibration, and the prefill valve prevents system negative pressure as well as unstable operation. Most papers on this topic rely on experiments to predict valve performance, and theoretically detailed modeling of valves or pipelines is performed, but it is very rare to evaluate hydraulic vibration characteristics by analysing everything from hydraulic pumps to valves comprehensively. In this study, we proposed an experimental circuit that can predict the performance of the prefill valve. The study also analysed the pressure-flow pulsation that is transmitted to the valve through the pipeline, and how the transmitted pressure-flow pulsation affects the valve vibration.

  • Sintered materials have been applied widely in Valve Seat Inserts (VSI). The amount of wear on VSIs increases when used in gas (LPG, CNG) engines because of their dry environments. In this paper, two newly developed high performance VSI materials for gas engines are introduced. These materials applied new techniques, which are both high performance hard particle and new distribution method of solid lubricant, to increase wear resistance.

  • An analytical study has been carried out to investigate the effects of the check valve installation on the volumetric and adiabatic efficiencies in a scroll compressor. Both the valve displacement limit and the valve stiffness affected the valve motion, the pressure upstream of the valve, and the pattern of the mass flow through the valve to the discharge plenum. Nonetheless, the presence of the check valve did not cause any noticeable change in the volumetric efficiency. Only a slight increase in the compression work was needed to overcome the pressure increase in front of the valve. The pressure build-up upstream of the valve can be alleviated with the larger limit of the valve lift and a smaller valve stiffness.

  • This paper was studied to design Process considered flexibility and reliability of suction and discharge valves. Flexibility and reliability of valves are main important factors in compressor valves design. And they are incompatible with efficiency of compressor. In this study, we have performed the optimal design of CO2 compressor valves to consider these factors. At first, we analyzed performance simulation of compressor to obtain optimal flexibility level of valves. From this simulation, we could get some important data at valve design like the optimal natural frequency and the height of retainer. After that we studied to reliability of valves corresponding to optimal flexibility level by finite element method. For each case bending stress and natural frequency were obtained by it. Also we investigated the fatigue stability to obtain optimal valve shape that ensured to reliability.

  • For the purpose of reducing the energy consumption in the house heating, the various devices have been developed. One of these is to control the flow in the heat pipe and the flow control valve using shape memory alloy(SMA) spring is proposed in our study. The proposed house heating system is to save the gas consumption and the remote control system is designed for the convenience of using the proposed valve. The developed valve consists of SMA spring, disk, return spring, and regulation handle. The regulation handle is for supplying the additional hot water and is controlled by remote-control-motor. In order to design the remote control system, the Zigbee wireless communication protocol is used. The performance of the proposed valve structure is shown through the experimental result.

  • This paper presents an electromagnetic design for the magneto-rheological fluid valve. The MR valve can control high-level fluid power without moving parts, due to the apparent viscosity controllability of the MR fluid in magnetic fields. In order to improve the static characteristic of the MR valve, the length of the flux path is decreased by removing the unnecessary bulk of the yoke. Then, in order to improve the dynamic and hysteretic characteristics, the magnetic reluctance of the ferromagnetic material is increased by minimizing the cross sectional area through which the flux passes. Two MR valves, one is a conventional type valve and the other is the proposed one, were fabricated and performance evaluation is experimentally achieved through the comparison study using by-pass damper system.
