  • In this paper, poppet valve with cone type poppet and sharp edged seat was studied. In order to develope poppet valve which have a specification of 315(bar) and 3(lpm), effect of design parameter as valve seat diameter, poppet angle, spring stiffness and spring pre-load was evaluated. The validity of simulation was confirmed and basic data far poppet valve design was derived.

  • The triple eccentric butterfly valve has metal sheet and this study about butterfly valve ceiling is an innovative approach. But it is affected by the static pressure as well as cross-current. The damage at the valve on the pipe resulted from the reflux is due to valve leakage. This study is investigated on the triple eccentric disk and it is applied with angle and the static pressure in all cases to develop cross-current triple eccentric butterfly valves. The disc with the diameter of 300A is valve against flow velocity. The entrance pressure by flow characteristics is performed with numerical analysis. As the result, valve torque production is reduced more than the conventional triple eccentric valve and entrance pressure is decreased on the increase of valve open angle. And flow coefficient can be known to be increased.

공기조화용 버터플라이 밸브 하류에서의 3차원 유동특성 (Three-Dimensional Flow Characteristics in the Downstream Region of a Butterfly-Type Valve Used in Air-Conditioning Systems)

  • Oil-film flow visualizations and three-dimensional flow measurements have been conducted in the downstream region of a butterfly-type valve used in air-conditioning systems, with the variation of a disk open angle. The flow visualizations in the flow symmetry plane show that there are a pair of counter-rotating separation/recirculation zones as wall as two jet-like near-wall flows. These flow disturbances are strongly depends on the disk open angle. Based on the flow visualization, a qualitative flow model is suggested in the near-field and downstream region of the valve disk. For a small disk open angle, the mean velocities and turbulent intensities have relatively small values in the near-field of the valve disk, but they do not show uniform distributions even in some downstream region. With an increment of the disk open angle, mean velocity variations and turbulent intensities are greatly increased in the immediate downstream region, but uniform distributions are quickly resumed as departing from the valve disk. The mass flow rate remains nearly constant for the disk open angles less than 30 degrees, meanwhile it strongly depends on the disk open angles between 45 and 75 degrees. The pressure loss is found to be about zero for the disk open angles less than 45 degrees, but is substantially increased for those larger than 75 degrees.

  • A PIV(Particle Image Velocimetry) was applied to measure in-cylinder velocity field according to inlet valve angle during compression stroke. Two engines, one is conventional DOHC 4 valve and the other is narrow valve angle, were used to compare real compression flow. The results show that the flow patterns are well arranged compared with intake flow and the basic tumble flow structures are maintained until end compression stage regardless of valve angle. Also the results show that the tumble motion is intensified by momentum conservation during compression in normal engine. In the normal engine, the bulk shape of flow pattern is "Y" type at the top of cylinder and reverse "Y" type at the bottom of cylinder and weak reverse flow exists at the top of cylinder along cylinder center line. Otherwise, the other engine's flow pattern changes from "Y" type to "T" type at the top of cylinder during compression.

  • This study result is obtained by flow analysis according to opening and shutting angle of ball valve. As opening and shutting angle becomes larger, vortex flow becomes smaller and flow rate becomes increased. And the pressure drop is shown to be smaller at the inlet and outlet of ball. As this angle becomes larger, mass flow rate becomes increased. Its rate becomes increased abruptly in case of opening and shutting angle at more than $60^{\circ}$.This analysis result can be applied usefully with no leak at pipe system field by the optimum control of mass flow rate according to opening and shutting of ball valve.

  • Butterfly valve is a valve that controls fluid flow depending on the size of the opening angle. In general, the size of the opening angle of the valve increases, the fluid flow has also increased sharply. However, sometimes, in a specific piping system, a particular operating condition is needed that the fluctuation of the fluid flow should not have large amount although the size of opening angle of the valve become larger. In butterfly value, the shape of a typical thin plate, it is impossible to control a minute fluid, but in thick plate type, it is possible. In this study, we got the fluid flow control characteristics and pressure drop through both a numerical method and an experimental method about thick plate type. The numerical result and experimental result of flow coefficient show a similar pattern. In addition, we could find that minute fluid flow control was possible in the area of small size of the opening angle.

  • In this paper, flow on the rear region of a butterfly valve was analysed by using numerical and experimental methods. The butterfly-valve disk angle is changed as 0-60 degree and the uniform flow velocity was fixed In this experiment. It was shown that the numerical results are similar to the experimental results. General discussions are given to the flow-pattern change upon the disk angle of the valve.

  • This paper deals with the experimental study of the turbulent flow fields by the hot-wire anemometer and the density fields by the Schlieren photography. In this study, the air mixed with CO$_{2}$ was used to visualize and to study this process and experimental parameters used were valve lift and valve shape. The results obtained are as follows: 1) The axial velocity of mixture flow passing a valve is changed greatly by valve seat angle and valve lift. Especially, it is changed more when the valve seat angles is 30.deg. and 45.deg. than when these are 60.deg. and 90.deg. 2) Experimental results by hot wire anemometer and Schlieren apparatus are very close together. The most satisfactory results are shown when the valve seat angle is 45.deg.

LIVC 적용 밀러사이클 스파크점화기관의 유동특성 연구 (A Study on Flow Characteristics of Spark-Ignited Engine with Variable Intake Valve Closing Timing for Miller Cycle)

  • In this study, to research in-cylinder flow characteristics of spark-ignited engine with intake valve closing timing change for Miller cycle. 3D simulation study were used 6 different intake valve profile with $CAD10^{\circ}$ gap for retard intake valve closing timing. Comparison of In-cylinder flow pattern characteristic were accompanied between Base and LIVC. And the efficiency of volume and the work of compression were analyzed with simulation study. When intake valve closing angle was retarded in $CAD50^{\circ}$, the pressure in cylinder was decreased about 12~13 bar and volume efficiency was reduced about 16%. The efficiency of volume and the work of compression were reduced on LIVC.

  • 버터플라이 밸브의 압력손실과 캐비테이션에 대한 유동특성 연구를 수행하였다. 밸브의 열림각에 대한 압력손실계수는 Carnot 방정식을 응용하여 수식화하였다. 캐비테이션(캐비테이션의 발단, 슈퍼 캐비테이션, 캐비테이션 손상, 초킹 캐비테이션과 같은)은 밸브의 압력손실계수로부터 예측되었다. 압력손실과 캐비테이션 예측은 밸브의 열림각에 대한 두께 비의 변화에 따라 수행하였다. 예측 데이터는 버터플라이 밸브를 개발하는데 필요한 엔지니어링 데이터로 활용하고자 한다.
