투과성 내부재가 설치된 사각형 탱크내의 슬로싱 해석 (Sloshing Analysis in Rectangular Tank with Porous Baffle)

  • An analytical model of liquid sloshing is developed to consider the energy-loss effect through a partially submerged porous baffle in a horizontally oscillating rectangular tank. The nonlinear boundary condition at the porous baffle is derived to accurately capture both the added inertia effects and the energy-loss effects from an equivalent non-linear drag law. Using the eigenfunction expansion method, the horizontal hydrodynamic force (added mass, damping coefficient) on both the wall and baffle induced by the fluid motion is assessed for various combinations of porosity, submergence depth, and the tank's motion amplitude. It is found that a negative value for the added mass and a sharp peak in the damping curve occur near the resonant frequencies. In particular, the hydrodynamic force and free surface amplitude can be largely reduced by installing the proper porous baffle in a tank. The optimal porosity of a porous baffle is near P=0.1.

Sensorless Estimation of Single-Phase Hybrid SRM using Back-EMF

  • This paper presents a novel scheme to estimate the rotor position of a single-phase hybrid switched reluctance motor (HSRM). The back-EMF generated by the permanent magnet (PM) field whose performance is motor parameter independent is adopted as an index to achieve the sensorless control. The differential value of back-EMF is calculated by hardware and processed by DSP to capture a fixed rotor position four times for every mechanical cycle. In addition, to accomplish the normal starting of HSRM, the determination method of the turn-off time position at the first electrical cycle is also proposed. In this way, a sensorless operation scheme with adjustable turn on/off angle can be achieved without substantial computation. The experimental verification using a prototype drive system is provided to demonstrate the viability of the proposed position estimation scheme.

  • Vietnams urban middle class is strongly value oriented in its shopping behavior. They want fairly good quality and service, but they also factor price into their considerations. In terms of retail patronage, they demand convenience, good service, attractive display, and especially want extensive choice. Brands must be present in multiple types of outlet, or fragile brand loyalties can be broken. Mini supermarkets have become an important part of the retail scene in the past decade, and have successfully introduced the supermarket concept to Vietnam. Many consumers are integrating mini supermarkets into their regular shopping, and are willing to pay the higher prices to gain the benefits of such shopping. However, the mini supermarkets do not adequately meet some of the things they expect from supermarkets. Large supermarkets are just entering the market, and are likely to capture much of the current mini supermarket customer base.

  • To improve the reality of motion simulator, the method of data-driven motion generation has been introduced to simply record and replay the motion of real vehicles. We can achieve high quality of reality from real samples, but it has no interactions between users and simulations. However, in character animation, user controllable motions are generated by the database made up of motion capture signals and appropriate control algorithms. In this study, as a tool for the interactive data-driven driving simulator, we proposed a new motion generation method. We sample the motion data from a real vehicle, transform the data into the appropriate data structure(motion block), and store a series of them into a database. While simulation, our system searches and synthesizes optimal motion blocks from database and generates motion stream reflecting current simulation conditions and parameterized user demands. We demonstrate the value of the proposed method through experiments with the integrated motion platform system.

  • Dynamic robust design has been regarded as the most powerful design methodology for improving product quality, Dynamic SN ratio adopted in dynamic robust design combines two major quality attributes, the variability around the linear function and the slope of the linear function, into a single design metric. The principal shortcoming associated with the dynamic SN ratio is that the metric is independent of designer's preferences for the quality attributes due to priori sets of attribute tradeoff values inherent in it. Therefore, a more rigorous preference­based design metric to accurately capture designer's intent and preference is needed. A new design metric that can be used in dynamic robust design is proposed. The effectiveness of the proposed design metric is examined with the aid of a demonstrative case study and the results are discussed.

  • The use of boost chopper in Permanent Magnet Synchronous Generator (PMSG) aims to capture maximum power at any wind speed condition. It is reached by adjusting the duty cycle of boost chopper. In this paper, fuzzy logic algorithm is used to find the duty cycle value which yields the maximum power output. This control scheme is verified by PSIM simulation. Another MPPT method is also simulated as a comparison.

A Framework to Estimate GDP Loss due to Extreme Water-related Disaster in Kangwon-do

  • Large scale flood disasters bring human losses and properties, which lead to the decrease of our productive value and change social environment. Human loss and economic damage are considered to be the same system but they are viewed as separated systems. The total amount of human loss can be represented as the total amount of economic damage estimated in the frame of social system while it will be possible to make mutual changing by clearing the relations between social and economic systems. In this regard, an attempt to estimate economic loss considering per capita Gross Domestic Production (GDP) caused by flood-related mortality was carried out to the typhoon Rusa of 2002 in Kangwon-do. The proposed method tried to capture quantitative factors which are affecting the loss of per capita GDP. The approach has great importance not only to set up governmental policy but also methodological progress in the research due to impact of disaster-related mortality on GDP loss.

제조업 일별 전력 사용량을 활용한 일일전력경기지수(DEBI) 개발 (Development of a Daily Electricity Business Index by using the Electricity Daily Data of the Manufacturing Sector)

  • Electricity sales are directly measured from individual consumers, which could minimize the time gap between data collection and public announcement. Furthermore, industrial electricity sales are highly linked with production and output. Therefore, industrial electricity consumption can be used to track production and output in real time. By using the high-frequency data of industrial electricity sales, this study develops the daily electricity business index (DEBI) to capture the daily economic status. The steps used to formulate DEBI are as follows: (1)selection of the explanatory variables and period, (2) amendment of the seasonal adjustment to eliminate daily temperature and effective day effects, (3) estimation of the weighted value via variables by using PCA, (4) calculation of DEBI and commencement of validation tests. Our empirical analysis and the Hodrick-Prescott filter analysis show that DEBI is highly related to existing economic indices.

OPTIMAL LIQUIDATION OF A LARGE BLOCK OF STOCK WITH REGIME SWITCHING

  • This work is concerned with an optimal selling rule for a large position of stock in a market. Selling a large block of stock in a short period typically depresses the market, which would result in a poor filling price. In addition, the large selling intensity makes the regime more likely to be poor state in the market. In this paper, regime switching and depressing terms associated with selling intensity are considered on a set of geometric Brownian models to capture movements of underlying asset. We also consider the liquidation strategy to sell much smaller number of shares in a long period. The goal is to maximize the overall return under state constraints. The corresponding value function with the selling strategy is shown to be a unique viscosity solution to the associated HJB equations. Optimal liquidation rules are characterized by a finite difference method. A numerical example is given to illustrate the result.

CFD Analysis of Cavitation Phenomena in Mixed-Flow Pump

  • This paper deals with the CFD analysis of cavitating flow in the mixed-flow pump with the specific speed of 1.64 which suffers from a high level of noise and vibrations close to the optimal flow coefficient. The ANSYS CFX package has been used to solve URANS equations together with the Rayleigh-Plesset model and the SST-SAS turbulence model has been employed to capture highly unsteady phenomena inside the pump. The CFD analysis has provided a good picture of the cavitation structures inside the pump and their dynamics for a wide range of flow coefficients and NPSH values. Cavitation instabilities were detected at 70% of the optimal flow coefficient close to the NPSH3 value (NPSH3 is the net positive suction head required for the 3% drop of the total head of the pump).
