The purpose of this study is to evaluate the economic value of a biotechnology in the middle of R&D and to examine strategies to manage a variety of risks and uncertainties intrinsic in research and development of biotechnologies through economic valuation in consideration of technological and industrial characteristics of the technology. To do this, this study analyzes the probability of commercial success of the technology development in qualitative terms, evaluates the quantitative value of the technology on the basis of a determined model, and proposes the implications on R&D strategy. In concrete, this study analyzes the economic value of the technology by constructing a decision tree reflecting the characteristics of the R&D process of the technology and draw the implications on the future R&D strategies of the technology.

This paper highlights how Thailand upgrades its positions in global value chains in high-tech, mid-tech and low-tech industries represented by electronics, automotive and frozen seafood, respectively. In the electronics industry, there are not many capable firms in the upstream segment like semiconductors. Nevertheless, transnational corporations in segment like hard disk drive began to invest in process R&D and collaborate more with local suppliers, universities and public research institutes in human resource and technological development. In the automotive industry, several Japanese car manufacturers such as Toyota, Honda, Nissan, and Isuzu set up R&D/Technical centres in Thailand since 2000s. This prompted Japanese and local part suppliers to also invest more in engineering, design and development activities. Some local universities offer as well engineering programmes specifically targeting the automotive industry. In the frozen seafood industry, several Thai firms have developed new ready-to-eat products, own brands and international distribution networks. They started to become transnational corporations investing in both developing and developed countries.

Having the characteristics of public goods, Radio Spectrum had been controlled by Government Authorities. In the past, technological side of spectrum, such as cross protection, was the main concern, but as the telecommunication industry is developing gradually, economic side of spectrum is becoming an important part. To uplift the Economic efficiency of spectrum management policy, clarifying the basic value of spectrum is one of the most important things. Also, both government authorities and spectrum licensees will have to choose license or investment under uncertainties such as license timing, time to market, technology standard, and so on. Considering all things, this paper gives the value to the spectrum by real options theory, which is a powerful method concerning uncertainty, especially for government, And we applied it to a specific spectrum band for the portable Internet in Korea. These results can provide information about the technological standard, optimal market-entry time as well as the value of spectrum for the portable Internet.

This paper seeks to measure the monetary value of technical development in the deep seabed manganese nodule mining by applying the compound option model (COM). The COM is appropriate for the project in terms of its decision-making structure and embedded uncertainty. The estimation results show that the deep seabed mining project has more economic potential than shown by the previously obtained results from the discounted cash flow (DCF) analysis. In addition, it is reasonable to invest in the project taking the various uncertainty factors into consideration, because the ratio of the value to the cost of the project is far higher than one. This information can be utilized in national ocean policy decision-making.

Real option valuation considers the managerial flexibility to make ongoing decisions regarding implementation of investment projects and deployment of real assets. The appeal of the framework is natural given the high degree of uncertainty that firms face in their technology investment decisions. This paper suggests an algorithm for estimating volatility of logarithmic cash flow returns of real asset based on Monte Carlo simulation. This research uses a binomial model to obtain point estimate of real option value with embedded expansion option case and provides also an array of numerical results to show the interval estimation of option value using Monte Carlo simulation.

Purpose - This study investigates the impact of equity financing on the valuation of R&D investments using a sample of firms from 33 countries from 1997 to 2018. Design/methodology/approach - I use a modified version of the valuation regression widely used in the literature. Findings - I find evidence that R&D investments are more highly valued when financed through equity. In contrast, debt financing does not affect the valuation of R&D investments. I also document that the impact of equity financing on R&D investment valuation weakens during the financial crisis. Research implications or Originality - In light of the distinctive characteristics of innovative investment, previous research investigates its relationship with financing. What remains unexamined, however, is how financing choices impact the way investors value innovative investments. This study seeks to bridge this gap in the existing body of research using a sample of firms from 33 countries from 1997 to 2018, for 22 years.

Objective: To develop healthier comminuted meat products to meet consumer demand, the gel properties, rheological properties, microstructure and water distribution of pork meat batters formulated with various amounts of bamboo shoot dietary fiber (BSDF) were investigated. Methods: Different levels of BSDF (0% to 4%) were added to pork batters, and the pH, color, water-holding capacity, texture and rheological properties of pork batters were determined. Then, pork batters were analyzed for their microstructure and water distribution using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and low-field nuclear magnetic resonance (LF-NMR). Results: Compared with the control, BSDF addition into meat batters showed a significant reduction in L^*-value and a significant increase in b^*-value (p<0.05). BSDF addition of up to 4% reduced the pH value of pork batters by approximately 0.15 units; however, the cooking loss and expressible water loss decreased significantly (p<0.05) with the increased addition of BSDF. The hardness and gel strength were noticeably enhanced (p<0.05) as the content of BSDF increased. The rheological results showed that BSDF added into pork batters produced higher storage modulus (G') and loss modulus (G") values. The SEM images suggested that the addition of BSDF could promote pork batters to form a more uniform and compact microstructure. The proportion of immobilized water increased significantly (p<0.05), while the population of free water was decreased (p<0.05), indicating that BSDF improved the water-holding capability of pork batters by decreasing the fraction of free water. Conclusion: BSDF could improve the gel properties, rheological properties and water distribution of pork meat batters and decrease the proportion of free water, suggesting that BSDF has great potential as an effective binder in comminuted meat products.

본 연구는 건강관리에 대한 인식이 높아지면서 많은 양의 건강 앱이 생산되고 있지만 이에 대한 이용 수준이 낮은 원인을 파악하고자 하였다. 즉, 이용자가 지닌 혁신저항(사용 장벽 정도, 가치 장벽 정도, 위험 장벽 정도, 전통 장벽 정도, 이미지 장벽 정도)이 건강 앱 이용의도에 미치는 영향을 살펴보았다. 본 연구를 위해 대학생들을 대상으로 설문을 진행하여 378개의 유효한 응답을 얻었다. 연구 결과, 이용자의 이미지장벽 정도가 높을수록 건강 앱에 대한 혁신저항 정도가 높아지며, 혁신저항 정도가 높을수록 지속적 이용의도 정도와 추천의지 정도가 낮게 나타났다. 또한, 사용장벽 정도, 가치장벽 정도 그리고 전통장벽 정도는 혁신저항 정도에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 건강 앱의 이용행태를 혁신저항이론으로 설명함으로써 신기술의 수용 및 지속적 사용에 대한 학문적 논의를 심화시켰다. 연구 결과는 건강 앱의 수용 및 지속적 이용을 위해서는 사용장벽, 가치장벽 그리고 전통장벽보다는 이미지장벽을 낮추는 것이 효과적일 것이라는 실질적 함의를 제공한다.

본 연구에서는 문재인 정부가 추진하고 있는 정부혁신에서 주요 철학적 토대를 이루고 있는 사회적 가치에 대한 개념을 살펴보고, 특정 지자체에서 추진하였던 정부혁신의 사례를 분석하였다. 연구대상이 된 지방자치단체에 대한 사례를 통해 정부 혁신을 추진하는데 있어서의 시사점을 논의하고자 하였다. 사례 연구의 대상 지방자치단체는 행정안전부의 정부혁신 평가에서 사회적 가치 실현을 위한 정부 혁신을 훌륭하게 수행했다는 평가를 받은 기관이다. 본 연구에서는 해당 지방자치단체, 지역청년들을 대상으로 심층인터뷰를 진행하여 공동체 문제에의 적극적인 참여를 통한 정부혁신의 성공요인들을 살펴보았다. 우선 공동체 구성원들의 참여를 독려하기 위해서는 조례 등의 제도적 지원이 무엇보다 중요하다. 또한 지방자치단체 스스로 변화를 주도하며 공급자적 시각이 아니라 수요자 입장에서 그들의 목소리를 듣는 것 역시 중요함을 알게 되었다. 또한 본 연구결과를 통해 공동체 문제에 참여하는 주체들에게 지속적으로 참여하도록 하는 유인체계가 매우 중요함을 알 수 있었다. 이를 통해 지역공동체 문제에 대해 수요자 입장에서 접근하고 함께 문제를 해결해 나갈 수 있는 지속적인 시스템을 구축할 수 있다고 판단된다.

Purpose - This study examined the relationship between individual creativity and its related variables to observe how individual creativity contributes to organizational performance. In addition, this study strived to explore how to maximize the utilization of individual creativity and innovate the structure of the organization itself so that teams and organizations can respond more effectively to new rising trends. this study aimed to examine whether the value congruence between individuals and organizations (propensity congruence, goal congruence has a significant impact on knowledge sharing and innovation behavior as dependent variables by exerting individual creativity and synergy as independent variables. Research design, data and methodology - SPSS 24.0 program were used to analyze the data. Descriptive Statistics and correlation analysis were performed, and the reliability factor (Cronbach's α) was calculated. Afterwards, we analyzed the moderating effects of structural equation model analysis and hierarchical regression analysis. The number of samples used in the study were 309 copies. Results - First, Individual creativity had a positive effect on knowledge sharing and innovative behavior. In other words, it was confirmed that decision-making processes fused with individual creativity could create an atmosphere of knowledge sharing and transform the organization. Second, value congruence adjusted the influence of individual creativity on knowledge sharing and innovation behavior. Conclusions - First, it is important for managers to recognize the value and secure the pool of creative talents who will be a potential future basic source of organizational success and competitive advantage. Second, managers should be able to identify those with creative talents and expertise, and use them to increase their knowledge sharing performance, while also developing emotional and motivational creativity. Third, in order improve knowledge sharing performance, managers should pay attention to the emotional aspect of creativity. Fourth, managers should strive to create an environment that is beneficial for the reinforcement of individual self-management capabilities. Fifth, managers should be able to develop decision-making processes to develop potential creativity and encourage creative thinking, opinions, or solutions. Sixth, managers should promote the dissemination and integration of new knowledge based on the creative views and attitudes of team members.
