To clarify the types of brackish region of the Han River Estuary, this research was carried out, and the results obtained on the basis of salinities and phytoplankton are as follows: 1. Geomorphologically, the Han River Estuary is the drowned river valley type. 2. According to the Venice System, the estuarine extent is defined from the lower point of Jollyu-ri to Palmi Island. As a whole the estuarine region is mixo-haline including parts from oligo-haline to poly-haline. 3. In standpont of phytoplankton frequency, the frequency of fresh-water species is high in the upper region of estuary and that of marine species is high in the lower region. The rate of frequency of fresh-water species is inversely proportionate to that of marine species. The area mixedby marine and fresh-water species over estuarine boundary. 4. The frequency of some typical brackish species is very low and almost similar in the whole region.
The purpose of this study was to find out the effect of a torrent control structure using customized tetrapods on the forest water quality, fishes, snials and streamwater ecology conservation and management. The study was conducted in the Honggye valley located in Sanchung-gun, Gyungsangnam-do, and stream water quality and streamwater ecology was compared before and during 2 years after construction of torrent control structure. After construction of the torrent control structure using customized tetrapods, pH of stream water didn't get out of the range of River water quality standard class I. After 2 years construction of the torrent control structure using customized tetrapods, Dissolved Oxygen concentration didn't change, and Electrical Conductivity measurements agreed well within the range of normal clean stream water quality. After construction of the torrent control structure using customized tetrapods, fishes and snials up and down stream movement didn't influence of the tetrapods dam. Stream water quality during 2 years after construction of the torrent control structure was similar to before construction. Therefore, it was find out that the torrent control structure didn't affect stream water quality and ecology.

43,000 shallow water wells have been installed as a part of all weather irrigation water supply project executed during 1969 to 1970 in all over Korea penninsula in order to solve water shortage problem of farming land by developing shallow ground water reserved in unconsolidated materials. But after 3 years later it was reported that 34% of the wells were abandoned by the reasons of artificial and natural defects. 48 wells distributed uniformly in the penninsula are selected to determine their well loss constants, relation between well loss and specific capacity, and tophographic classification of the well loss on the shallow water well. The results show that average well loss consatnt and the value of $CQ^2/S_w$ is ranged from $5.95{\times}10^{-5}\;to\;3.65{\times}10^{-8}Day^2M^{-5}$ and from 35.5% to maximum 68.48% respectvely and that relation between specific capacity and well loss constant can be approximately formulated as $C=0.61S_p2.246$ However this result indicates that most wells installed in this time have too high value of well loss constant $CQ^2/S_w$ in comparison with properly deseigned well. The most favorable and producable water bearing formation among unconsolidated deposits such as sand & gravel, boulderly gravel, clayey boulderly gravel, and sand formation in Korea is sand formation deposited in center of valley.

This paper proposes a local adaptive thresholding method based on a water flow model, in which an image surface is considered as a 3-dimensional (3-D) terrain. To extract characters from backgrounds, we pour water onto the terrain surface. Water flows down to the lower regions of the terrain and fills valleys. Then, the amount of filled water is thresholded, in which the proposed thresholding method is applied to gray level document images consisting of characters and backgrounds. The proposed method based on a water flow model shows the property of locally adaptive thresholding. Computer simulation with synthetic and real document images shows that the proposed method yields effective adaptive thresholding results for binarization of document images.
Carbonated mineral waters fo $Ca(Mg)-HCO_3$ type spring out fissure of Jurassic granite in the valley floor of the Chungsong area. The water has been long as a Dalki medicinal water because of its unique therapeutic effect against clacium deficit, stomach and skin troubles, ect. The water has a high $CO_2$ concentration ($P_{CO_2}$=0.51~1.12atm) and exhibits strong pH buffering (5.9~6.26) by $H_2CO_3/HCO_3$ couple. Electrical conductivity ranges from 1,900 to 3100 $\mu$S/cm. Environmental isotopic data $(^{2}H/^{1}H, ^{18}O/^{16}O \;and \;^3H)$ indicates that the water is of meteoric origin recharged in the Cretaceous sedimetary strata distributed in upper part of the catchment area at least before 1950s, The high $P_{co_2}$ and carbon isotope data (${\delta}^{13}C=-3\sim-0.2\textperthousand$) suggest that the potential source of carbonated mineral water was originated in deep-seated $CO_2$ as wel as aboundant carbonate minerals of sedimentary desimetary rocks. The major source minerals of the dissoved species in the carbonated mineral water appear to be carbonate minerals, albite and K-feld-spar in sedimentrary rocks.

Slopes are commonly formed both above and below roads located in mountainous terrain and along riversides. The Buk-sil site, a cut slope formed below the road, collapsed in October, 2010. A field investigation determined the causes of failure as improper drainage of valley water from the slope above the road and direct seepage of road-surface water. These factors may have accelerated the collapse via complex interaction between water and sub-surface structures such as bedding. Projection analysis of the site showed the possible involvement of plane, wedge, and toppling failure. Safety factors calculated by Limit Equilibrium Analysis for plane and wedge failure were below the standard for wet conditions. The wetness index, analyzed using topographic factors of the study area, was 9.0-10.5, which is high compared with the values calculated for nearby areas. This finding indicates a high concentration of water flow. We consider that water-flow control on the upper road is crucial for enhancing slope stability at the Buk-sil site.

Greenhouse soil cultivated with excessive compost and chemical fertilizer has been an issue to deteriorate soil and water quality in the environment. The objective of this study was to evaluate the nutrient outflow by desalting method, flooding soil surface, after vegetable cropping in greenhouse soils. Field experiment from July to September 2008, was conducted to quantify greenhouse locations, i.e. alluvial plain and local valley. The changes of desalinization in both locations were higher as the amounts of irrigated and drained water were increased. Particularly, the ratio of desalinization in alluvial plain was much higher (66.7%) than the one in local valley (45.6%). However, $NH_4$-N contents of local valley soil during the flooding were higher than in those of alluvial plain. This was caused by high total nitrogen and organic matter in local valley soil than those in alluvial plain soil. With comparing to the input and output loads of T-N and T-P in greenhouses with local valley and alluvial plain soils, the output loads of nutrients were larger than the input loads of nutrients. This result showed that the flooding soil surface can be a good treatment to desalinize greenhouse soils. However, this conclusion remained that the flooding water containing high N and P concentrations might cause the secondary effect on the quality of streams and groundwater since excessive nutrient concentrations can be the main cause of eutrophication problem in aquatic environment.
