Model verification and validation (V&V) is a current research topic to build computational models with high predictive capability by addressing the general concepts, processes and statistical techniques. The hypothesis test for validity check is one of the model validation techniques and gives a guideline to evaluate the validity of a computational model when limited experimental data only exist due to restricted test resources (e.g., time and budget). The hypothesis test for validity check mainly employ Type I error, the risk of rejecting the valid computational model, for the validity evaluation since quantification of Type II error is not feasible for model validation. However, Type II error, the risk of accepting invalid computational model, should be importantly considered for an engineered products having high risk on predicted results. This paper proposes a technique named as the response-adaptive experimental design to reduce Type II error by adaptively designing experimental conditions for the validation experiment. A tire tread block problem and a numerical example are employed to show the effectiveness of the response-adaptive experimental design for the validity evaluation.

In this study, the validity study has been carried out to apply the combustion burner in an electric arc furnace. The validity of applying the combustion burner has been studied in the aspect of the operation through the calculation of heat balance. The average decrease rate of power on time is 11.2%. When the maintainability is compared to the door lance manipulator type, the multi-functional combustion burner is simple to replace and repair. The location of burner can be adopted according to the drawings which are recommended in this study. As a result, the validity of applying the combustion burner to improve an efficiency of electric arc furnace has been confirmed.

This paper describes how to derive audit criterion, audit domain, detail technology, and functional check items which are core of hospital information system, consisting of OCS, EMR, and PACS. Using the check items listed above, we investigated the objective validity for the construction audit of hospital information system. As a result, the derived audit criterion, audit domain, detail technology, and functional check items were verified as check items for audit. Since using the current audit check items of public area is insufficient to construct efficient, reliable, and stable hospital information system, we suggest adopting the hospital information system audit area, audit check items, and process that are presented in this paper.

This paper has developed an efficient nonlinear finite element method that covers both initial deformations and initial stresses of general distribution in calculating the ultimate strength of ring-stiffened cylinders. The developed method and two widely-used commercial codes (NASTRAN and ABAQUS) were simultaneously applied to the same analysis model within the extent of those commercial codes' coverage to check the validity of the present method. After the validity check, it was used for parametric studies for more general cases of initial stress distribution, which produced some useful information about the imperfection sensitivity of the ultimate strength of ring-stiffened cylinders.

The CISG has been effective since January 1,1988. Even if both parties of international sales contract are located in ratifying countries, the CISG does not apply to certain excluded transactions. The CISG does not apply if the parties have opted out of the CISG. When the parties opt out, they usually agree on the law that is to replace the CISG. In the context of international sales, the frequent and difficult choice of law problems will arise when the CISG applies to a transaction but does not resolve all the legal issues before the tribunal. So this article deals with the question. What should we select the applicable law in such situations? (1) For products liability issues excluded from the CISG by article 4 and 5, the court should apply the substantive law of the market state and the statute of limitations law of the forum, (2) For validity issues excluded from the CISG by article 4(a). the court should apply the UNIDROIT Principles when its rules resolve the issue.

The purpose of this study is to develop assessment tools to diagnose the child friendly level in a given community. To develop such assessment tools, the literature related to this issue was reviewed, and in order to reflect Korea specific social and cultural characteristics, 198 children and adolescents and 104 parents were interviewed in depth. The questionnaires were classified as objective tools and subjective tools by means of a content validity test by experts and a verification by preliminary survey. Objective tools are defined as those which are used by professionals to check facts based on laws and institutions. 20 objective questionnaires were created and completed. In contrast, subjective tools were used to check the subjective perceptions of children, adolescents and parents on their community environments. Subjective tools were collected as the basis for the data for construct validity and was calculated to verify the validity. For this purpose, 432 children and adolescents between 11 and 18 and 201 parents living in Seoul, Daejeon and Hwaseong (n=633) were surveyed. Subjective tools, 33 questions in 6 areas were created and completed for parents and for children and adolescents, 30 questions in 5 areas were created and completed.

This study is an analysis on the focus of textbooks regarding the statistical chapters of "measures of representative(central tendency) and of the spread". Applying the summary-concept criteria of Juhyeon Nam(2007), 4 kinds of aspect of the chapter; (1) definition and its teleological validity of the measures of representative, (2) definition and practical value of the measures of spread (3) distributional form on the measures of representative and of spread (4) location and scale preservation or invariance of the measures of representative and of spread were observed. On the measures of representative, some definitions were insufficient to check the teleological validity of the measure. Most definitions of the measure of spread were based on the practical view points but no preparation for the future statistical inferences were found even by implication. Some books mention about the measures of representative and of spread for distributions, but we could not find any comments on the correspondence between the sample mean and the expectation of a distribution or population mean. However it is stimulant that some books check the validity of corresponding measures with the location and scale preservation or invariant property, that were not found in the previous curriculum.

Purpose: The Edinbergh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) has seen widespread use in epidemiological and clinical studies. The objective of this research was to translate and to test the reliability and validity of the 10-item EDPS in Korea. Methods: Subjects were 145 women who were 6 to 10 weeks post delivery. To test reliability, the internal consistency was assessed by Cronbach's alpha coefficient. Validity testing was performed using convergent validity by Pearson's correlation. Data was gathered at 3 hospitals during Oct. 2005 after obtaining an informed consent. Result: The mean age of the subjects was 29.9 years. and the mean parity was 1.46 times. The mean EPDS score was 18.4. Reliability analysis showed a satisfactory result (Cronbach's alpha coefficient=.84). There were significant positive correlations between EPDS and Mills postnatal depression and anxiety check list scores as expected(r=.69, p<.001) and thus supported convergent validity. Conclusion: The study findings showed that the Korean version of the EPDS-10 is a reliable and valid instrument that can be used for measuring postnatal depression in Korea.
