The composition of martensite transformation in NiAl alloy is determined using pure nickel and aluminum powder by vacuum hot press powder metallurgy, which is a composition of martensitic transformation, and the characteristics of martensitic transformation and microstructure of sintered NiAl alloys are investigated. The produced sintered alloys are presintered and hot pressed in vacuum; after homogenizing heat treatment at 1,273 K for 86.4 ks, they are water-cooled to produce NiAl sintered alloys having relative density of 99 % or more. As a result of observations of the microstructure of the sintered NiAl alloy specimens quenched in ice water after homogenization treatment at 1,273 K, it is found that specimens of all compositions consisted of two phases and voids. In addition, it is found that martensite transformation did not occur because surface fluctuation shapes did not appear inside the crystal grains with quenching at 1,273 K. As a result of examining the relationship between the density and composition after martensitic transformation of the sintered alloys, the density after transformation is found to have increased by about 1 % compared to before the transformation. As a result of examining the relationship between the hardness (Hv) at room temperature and the composition of the matrix phase and the martensite phase, the hardness of the martensite phase is found to be smaller than that of the matrix phase. As a result of examining the relationship between the temperature at which the shape recovery is completed by heating and the composition, the shape recovery temperature is found to decrease almost linearly as the Al concentration increases, and the gradient is about -160 K/at% Al. After quenching the sintered NiAl alloys of the 37 at%Al into martensite, specimens fractured by three-point bending at room temperature are observed by SEM and, as a result, some grain boundary fractures are observed on the fracture surface, and mainly intergranular cleavage fractures.
Lotus leaf has a special dual micro and nano surface structure which gives its highly hydrophobic surface characteristics and so-called self cleaning effect. In order to endow PVDF hollow fiber membrane with this special structure and improve the hydrophobicity of membrane surface, PVDF hollow fiber composite membranes was obtained through the immersion coating of poly(vinylidene fluoride-co-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) dilute solution on the outside surface of PVDF support membrane. The prepared PVDF composite membranes were used in the vacuum membrane distillation (VMD) for the desalination. The effects of PVDF-HFP dilute solution concentration in the dope solution and coating time on VMD separation performance was studied. Membranes were characterized by SEM, WCA measurement, porosity, and liquid entry pressure of water. VMD test was carried out using $35g{\cdot}L^{-1}$ NaCl aqueous solution as the feed solution at feed temperature of $30^{\circ}C$ and the permeate pressure of 31.3 kPa. The vapour flux reached a maximum when PVDF-HFP concentration in the dilute solution was 5 wt% and the coating time was kept in the range of 10-60 s. This was attributed to the well configuration of micro-nano rods which was similar with the dual micro-nano structure on the lotus leaf. Compared with the original PVDF membrane, the salt rejection can be well maintained which was greater than 99.99 % meanwhile permeation water conductivity was kept at a low value of $7-9{\mu}S{\cdot}cm^{-1}$ during the continuous testing for 360 h.

The increasing interest in CubeSat platforms ant their capability of enlarging the frontier of possible missions impose technology improvements. Miniaturized electrical propulsion (EP) systems enable new mission for multi-unit CubeSats (6U+). While electric propulsion systems have achieved important level of knowledge at equipment level, the investigation of the mutual impact between EP system and CubeSat technology at system level can provide a decisive improvement for both the technologies. The interaction between CubeSat and EP system should be assessed in terms of electromagnetic emissions (both radiated and conducted), thermal gradients, high electrical power management, surface chemical deposition, and quick and reliable data exchanges. This paper shows how a versatile CubeSat Test Platform (CTP), together with standardized procedures and specialized facilities enable the acquisition fundamental and unprecedented information. Measurements can be taken both by specific ground support equipment placed inside the vacuum facility and by dedicated sensors and subsystems installed on the CTP, providing a completely new set of data never obtained before. CTP is constituted of a 6U primary structure hosting the EP system, representative CubeSat avionics and batteries. For the first test campaign, CTP hosts the ambipolar plasma propulsion system, called Regulus and developed by T4I. After the integration and the functional test in laboratory environment, CTP + Regulus performed a Test campaign in relevant environment in the vacuum chamber at CISAS, University of Padua. This paper is focused on the test campaign description and the main results achieved at different power levels for different duration of the firings.
Powder metallurgy has been employed for the development of SiC particle reinforced aluminum metal matrix composites by means of hot isotropic pressing and vacuum hot pressing. A material model based on micro-mechanical approach then has been presented for the processes. Densification occurs by the inelastic flow of matrix materials during the consolidation, and consequently it depends on many process conditions such as applied pressure, temperature and volume fraction of reinforcement. The model is implemented into finite element software so that the process simulation can be performed enabling the predicted relative density to be compared with experimental data. In order to determine the performance of finished products, further tensile test has been conducted using the developed specimens. The effect of internal void of the materials on mechanical properties therefore can be investigated.

Mokumegane is one of the sophisticated metal craft techniques enabling wood grain surface effect. To embody the mokumegane, an ingot of well-bonded stacked metal plates has been required. Traditionally prepared mokumegane ingots were bonded using charcoal which enables reduction atmosphere, but sometimes end up with collapse of bonding interface due to the lack of reliable process control. We proposed a systematic vacuum direct bonding process for ingots. First, we confirmed copper//copper homogeneous plate bonding at $900^{\circ}C$ by applying uniaxial press of 2.5kg. We observed 80min required to obtain 90%-bonding ratio and the diffusion coefficient would be enhanced up to 100 times due to surface effect. Second, by considering enhanced diffusion behavior, we also obtained optimum bonding condition in copper/silver heterogeneous plates that ensures 90%-bonding ratio at $700^{\circ}C$ for 10min with apply uniaxial press. A 7-layered copper/silver ingot is prepared successfully, and eventually the prototype mokumegane cases for mobile phone were fabricated with these ingot.
A Study on the Interface Behavior of Aluminium Alloy Matrix Composites Reinforced with W Fiber. In this study the tungsten fiber reinforced 7072 aluminium alloy martrixcomposites were fabricated using vacuum hot press. The fiber has been aligned on the aluminium alloy sheets and these sheets were bonded with diffustion at 873K and 49Mpa. The behaviors of interface layer and mechanical properites have been investigated as a function of holding time at 873K. Several compounds were formed at the interface layer. These compounds were growing in propotion to holding time. XRD analysis showed that these compounds were $WAl_{12}$$WAl_5$. The tensile strength decreased as the heat treatment time over 10hr gradually. The ductle fractur mode was turned to brittle mode after heat treatment.
Inner crack-like pores with controlled amount of Ca impurity level in the high purity alumina single crystal sapphire had been created by micro-fabrication technique which includes ion implantation photo-lithography Ar ion milling and hot press technique. The morphological change and the healing of crack-like pore in the Ca doped high purity single crystal alumina during high temperature heat treatment in vacuum were observed using optical microscopy. The hexagonal bridging ligaments were developed and the size of hexagonal bridging ligaments had been increased with temperature and Ca amount and had grown to their corner rounded. It appeared that the hexagonal bridging ligaments would have an equilbrium size with temperature and the amount of Ca addition. Three kinds of crack-like pore healing type were observed. Edge regression and ligament growth were observed from relatively low temperature in the crack-like pore. Edge regression were found in almost all of the crack-like pore but the ligament growth were found only in the several crack-like pores accelerating heating very fast. Flow type healing was observed above $1800^{\circ}C$ and It healed the crack-like pore very slowly.
One of the techniques for altering the properties of wood that has received considerable attention in the last twenty years is the formation of a wood-polymer composite (WPC) by irradiation and heat-catalyst polymerization of a monomer incorporated into the wood matrix. Wood-polymer composites are the new products having the superior mechanical and physical properties and the combinated characteristics of wood and plastic. The purpose of this experiment was to obtain the basic data for the improvement of wooden materials by manufacturing WPC and Staypak. The species examined was Hyunsasi-Namoo (Populus alba ${\times}$ P. glandulosa) which had not been utilized yet. Methylmethacrylate (MMA) as monomer, benzoyl peroxide (BPO) as initiator and methyl alcohol as bulking agent were used. The monomer containing BPO was impregnated into wood pieces by the dipping and the vacuum process for 2 hours. After impregnation, the treated samples were polymerized on the hot press with pressure and heat-catalyst methods. The results obtained were summarized as follows 1. The monomer loading into wood by the dipping process was 12.13 percent and 29.99 percent by the vacuum. The polymer loading into wood by the dipping process was 6.79 percent and 15.44 percent by the vacuum. 2. Comparing with Staypak, antishrink efficiency (ASE) of WPC was 12.5 to 13.6 percent on the radial direction and 14.70 to 18.63 percent on the tangential. Antiswelling efficiency (AE) was 14.40 to 17.22 percent on the radial direction and 17.18 to 42.1 8 to 42.14 percent on the tangential. Reduction in water absorptivity (RWA) was 8.19 to 15.5 percent. As a whole, the vacuum process was better than the dipping. 3. The specific gravity of control, Staypak and WPC were 0.44, 0.66 and 0.61 to 0.62, respectively. 4. In the bending strength test, the strength in case that the load direction is on the radial surface was greater than that which the load direction is on the tangential. 5. Increasing rate of stress at proportional limit in compression perpendicular to grain was 72.26 percent in case of WPC by the dipping process, 78.93 percent by the vacuum and 99.09 percent in case of Staypak.
A co-spray deposition technique has been developed to bypass a fundamental limitation in the conventional spray deposition technique, i.e., the deposition of metal oxides from incompatible precursors in the starting solution. With this technique, ZnO films codoped with F and Al have been successfully synthesized, in which F is incompatible with Al. Two starting solutions were prepared and co-sprayed through two separate spray heads. One solution contained only the F precursor, $NH_4F$. The second solution contained the Zn and Al precursors, $Zn(O_2CCH_3)_2$ and $AlCl_3$. The deposition was carried out at $500^{\circ}C$ on soda-lime glass in air. A minimum sheet resistance, $55.4{\Omega}/{\square}$, was obtained for Al and F codoped ZnO films after vacuum annealing at $400^{\circ}C$, which was lower than singly-doped ZnO with either Al or F. The transmittance for the codoped ZnO samples was above 90% in the visible range. This co-spray deposition technique provides a simple and cost-effective way to synthesize metal oxides from incompatible precursors with improved properties for photovoltaic applications.
The electrical resistivity of air-dried, saturated, and carbonated concretes with different mixture proportions was monitored to evaluate and quantify the influence of the age of the specimen, carbonation, and curing condition. After 28 days of curing, four prepared specimens were stored in a vacuum chamber with 5% $CO_2$ for 330 days to make carbonated specimens. Four of the specimens were placed in water, and four specimens were cured in air until the end of the experiments. It was observed that the electrical resistivity of the carbonated specimens increased as carbonation progressed due to the decrease of porosity and the increase of hydrated products. Therefore, in order to estimate the durability of concrete, its carbonation depth was used as the measurement of electrical resistivity. Moreover, an increase of electrical resistivity for air-dried and saturated concretes was observed as a function of age of the specimen. From the relationship between chloride diffusivity provided by Yoon et al. (2007) and the measurements of electrical resistivity, it is expected that the results well be of significant use in calibrating chloride diffusivity based on regular measurements of electrical resistivity during concrete construction.
