  • The effect of mechanical factors and season of the year on milking characteristics (milk yield, time of milking, rate of milk flow, stripping time and tripping milk) were studied on 26 Holstein Friesian cows, raised under Saudi Arabia environmental conditions. Cows were in the third and fourth lactation and reached the peak. Cows milked twice a day with equal intervals. Three vacuum levels (34, 38 and 42 cfm) and two pulsation ratios were used to form six vacuum-pulsation combinations. The study was carried during two seasons Autumn-Winter (S1) and Spring-Summer (S2). After absorbing the cow equations least square analysis was used to analyze the data. Vacuum level 38 cfm and pulsation ratio 70:30 was the best among all combinations of vacuum level-pulsation ratio. No significant effect (p < .01) for season, up to the seventh half minute, on the rate of milk flow. However, season of the year has a significant effect on total milk yield, stripping time and stripping milk.

  • By using vacuum in-line driving and photoluminescence measuring method, we have observed the electrical and optical characteristics of the vacuum in-line sealing technology and analyzed the effect of the base vacuum level before filling the plasma gas. In the case of base vacuum level of $1{\times}10^{-3}$torr, the firing voltage of a 2-inch diagonal PDP panel was ranged from 310 to 345V depending on the plasma gas pressure of 200 to 300torr and luminous efficiency was ranged from 0.0227 to 0.0367 lm/W depending on the input voltage level of 330 to 225V. While, in the case of $1{\times}10^{-6}$, the characteristics were significantly improved. As a results, the firing voltage was ranged from 295 to 318V and luminous efficiency was from 0.0278 to 0.0451 lm/W.

  • The effects of the base vacuum level on a plasma display panel (PDP) produced by the vacuum in-line sealing technology were investigated. The main equipment of the vacuum in-line sealing process consists of the sealing chamber, pumping systems for evacuating, mass flow controller for introducing the plasma gases, and other measuring systems. During the sealing process, the impurity gases were fully evacuated and the panel was prevented from the adsorption of impurity gases. As a result, the brightness increased as the impurity gas density decreased, so we found that the vacuum in-line sealing process was more efficient technology an the conventional sealing process.

  • By using vacuum in-line driving and photoluminescence measuring system, we have examined the electrical and optical characteristics of plasma display panel produced by vacuum in-line sealing technology. In addition, the relationship between luminous efficiency and base vacuum level before filling discharge gas was analyzed. In the case of base vacuum level of $1.33{\times}10^{-1}$ Pa, the firing voltage of a 2-inch diagonal PDP panel was ranged from 312 to 343 V depending on the discharge gas pressure of $2.667{\times}10^4$ to $4{\times}10^4$ Pa at room temperature, Whereas in the case of $1.33{\times}10^{-4}$ Pa, the firing voltage was reduced by 40 V and luminescence was improved slightly.

  • Because many research using rocket grade peroxide is studied, distillation method for domestic production of rocket grade hydrogen peroxide is required. Distillation methods are very various and divided by feeding method, distillation time, distillation pressure, and so on. Among these, vacuum distillation is a suitable method for hydrogen peroxide. This method can reduce thermal decomposition and reaction with impurities. Distillation condition is determined by Raoult's law. Low vacuum level and vacuum level control are appeared as important problems of the experiment equipment, which are solved by using less leakage vacuum chamber and metering valve.

  • We developed a national medium vacuum standard by static expansion method. A 133 Pa capacitance diaphragm gauge was calibrated and analysed according to the document of 'Guide to the Expression of Uncertainty in Measurement' of ISO. The results showed that the expanded uncertainty of $2.628\times10^{-3}$ Pa at $95\%$ confidence level and coverage factor of k=2.

  • The high vacuum in a electron beam lithography is basic condition, because electron beam vanish by collision with air molecules in generally atmosphere. To make high vacuum state, the vacuum control valve is essential. Most vacuum control valve are manual units. So, user of manual vacuum valve must have understanding vacuum process to change from low vacuum to high vacuum state. The user of electron beam lithography are troubled with operation of manual vacuum valve, in case the vacuum chamber is frequently open. In this paper, the design and performance test of auto vacuum control valve for electron beam lithography are described. With the auto vacuum control valve, the high vacuum level can reach 2.8E-5 Torr.

  • A fan-motor assembly in a vacuum cleaner is analyzed through system-level analysis method. This system consisted of three components, a fan, motor, and the flow resistance of the motor, or of the vacuum cleaner. System-level analysis method is characterized by the combination of torque matching at a constant throttling condition between the fan and the motor and the pressure drop at a constant flow rate due to the flow resistance of the motor, or of the vacuum cleaner. The performance characteristics of the fan-motor assembly and the vacuum cleaner system could be predicted over the whole range of operation, based on the characteristics of each component. The predicted performance of the vacuum cleaner system through system-level analysis agreed well with the experimental results within 4.5% difference of pressure and 6% difference of the efficiency. The effect of flow resistance of a motor is investigated and it is found that the efficiency decrease of fan-motor assembly at the constant flow rate due to the flow resistance of a motor is determined by the flow resistance ratio(FRR), which is defined as a ratio of flow resistance of motor and the flow resistance of a constant throttling condition of a given point. The fan-motor assembly(S2 model) was modified to reduce the FRR from 9.0% to 2.4% and the experimental result shows that the efficiency of S2 model was improved by about 3% at best efficiency point.

  • The flow structure inside the intake head greatly affects the working efficiency of a vacuum cleaner such as suction power and aero-acoustic noise. In this study, the flow inside intake heads of a vacuum cleaner was investigated using qualitative flow visualization and quantitative PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry) techniques. The aerodynamic power, suction efficiency and noise level of the intake heads were also measured. In order to improve the performance of the vacuum cleaner, inner structure of the flow paths of the intake head, such as trench height and shape of connection chamber were modified. The flow structures of modified intake heads were compared with that of the original intake head. The aero-acoustic noise caused by flow separation was reduced and the suction efficiency was also changed due to flow path modification of intake head. In this paper, the variations of flow fields for different intake heads are presented and discussed together with results of aerodynamic power, suction efficiency and noise level.
