Effects of thickness on the properties of ITO films deposited by a low-frequency magnetron sputtering

  • Indium-tin oxide (ITO) films were deposited by a low-frequency (LF, 100 Hz) magnetron sputtering on glass substrates at the room temperature. The effects of the film thickness on the structural, electrical and optical properties of ITO films were investigated. With the film thickness the films reveal better crystallinity, showing both (222) and (400) pla nes in the XRD pattern. The optical transmittance and the sheet resistance of the films decreased with the increasing thickness. In addition, the electrical properties of ITO films were improved after annealing in a vacuum.

  • Flexible displays such as plastic based LCDs and organic light-emitting diodes for mobile communication devices have been researched and developed at KETI in KOREA since 1997. The Plastic film substrate has so poor thermal tolerance and non-rigidness that the fabrication of active devices and panel assembly have to perform at low temperature and pressure. In addition, high thermal expansion of the substrate is also a serious problem for reliable metallic film deposition. In this paper, we investigated particularly on the fundamental characteristics of various plastic substrates and then, suggested novel methods that improve the fabrication processes of plastic LCD panel. In order to maintain stable substrate surface and uniform cell gap during panel assembly, we utilized newly-invented iii and vacuum chuck. Electro-optical characteristics of fabricated plastic LCD are better than or equivalent to those of typical glass based LCDs though it is thinner, lighter-weight and more robust.

  • We have been fabricated the white organic electroluminescent devices using vacuum evaporation method. The structure of the white OELD is Glass/1T0/NPB/DPVBi/AI $q_{3:}$ Ru bren e/B CP/Alq $q_3$/Al. We have got the white emission with two-wavelength that is mixing blue emission in DPVBi layer and orange emission in Al $q_{3:}$Rubrene layer by varying tile doping concentrations of Rubrene and the thickness of NPB layer.yer.

  • CoNiCr/Cr and CoCrTa/Cr for longitudinal magnetic recording media were. prepared on Coming 7059 glass by RF magnetron sputtering. The thickness of Cr underlayer was varied from 500 to $3000{\AA}$ and. that of magnetic layer was $700{\AA}$. Coercivity and squareness were measured using V.S.M.(vibrating sample magnetometer). The coercivity of films increased with increasing Cr thickness when the films were unannealed. The coercivity of the films annealed in a 10 mtorr vacuum increased initially with annealing time and then saturated with further increase in annealing time. The coercivity value difference between the unannealed and annealed films increased with increasing the thickness of Cr underlayer No significant change was found in squareness after anneal, regardless of Cr underlayer thickness.

Investigation of the Annealing Time Effects on the Properties of Sputtered ZnO:Al Thin Films

  • ZnO:Al transparent conductive films were deposited on glass substrates by RF magnetron sputtering technique and annealed by rapid thermal annealing system. The influence of annealing time on the structural, electrical, and optical properties of ZnO:Al thin films was investigated by atomic force microscopy, X-ray diffraction, Hall method and optical transmission spectroscopy. As the annealing time increases from 0 to 5 min, the crystallinity is improved, the root main square surface roughness is decreased and the sheet resistance is decreased. The lowest sheet resistance of ZnO:Al thin film is 90 ohm/sq. The reduction of sheet resistance is caused by increasing carrier concentration due to substituent Al ion. All films are transparent up to 80% in the visible wavelength range and the adsorption edge is a blue-shift due to Burstein-Moss effect with increasing annealing time.

  • Well-aligned multi-wall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) have been grown on both Coming glass and silicon substrates at about 400 $^{\circ}C$ by a modified plasma - enhanced chemical vapor deposition system. We have investigated laser irradiation effect on carbon nanotube surface by using an ultra - violet laser. The laser operated to modify structural defect of was carbon nanotube and to ablate possible contamination of carbon nanotube surface. The morphology and surface transformation of MWCNTs as analyzed by a SEM. In addition, the field emission measurement was also carried out in a vacuum chamber with a $10^{-7}$ Torr base pressure by applying bias voltages up to 1000V.

  • In this work the electrical characteristics of organic TFTs using organic insulator and flexible polyester substrate have been investigated. Pentacene and PVP(polyvinylphenol) are used as an active semiconducting layer and dielectric layer respectively. Pentacene was thermally evaporated in vacuum at a pressure of about $1{\times}10^{-6}$ Torr and at a deposition rate of $0.5{\AA}$/sec, and PVP was spin-coated. Aluminium and gold were used for gate and source/drain electrodes. 0.1mm thick flexible polyester substrate was used instead of glass or silicon wafer.

All Solid State Electrochromic (전 고체형 일렉트로크로믹 소자)

  • In this study, we have fabricated all solid state electrochromic devices using WO$_3$ film as the working electrode, V$_2$O$\_$5/ film as the counter electrode and PEO-LiClO$_4$-PC film as the solid electrolyte. The WO$_3$ thin films for working electrode and V$_2$O$\_$5/ thin films for counter electrode were deposited onto ITO glass by vacuum evaporation and were shown good electrochromic and state properties after 1x10$\^$5/ cycles. PEO-LiClO$_4$-PC polymer electrolyte can easily be formed into thin films, do not absorb in the visible region of the light. Therefore, such electrolyte have electrochromic properties suitable for large-scale all solid-state electrochromic devices. All solid-staeelectrochromic devices fabricated in this polymer electrolyte have optical modulation of 20%∼30% at 1.5 V.

Properties of ZnO:Ga thin films deposited by RF magnetron sputtering under various RF power

  • ZnO:Ga thin films were deposited by RF magnetron sputtering technique from ZnO (3 wt.% $Ga_2O_3$) target onto glass substrates under various RF power. The influence of RF power on the structural, electrical, and optical properties of ZnO:Ga thin films was investigated by X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, Hall method and optical transmission spectroscopy. As the RF power increases from 50 to 110W, the crystallinity is deteriorated, the root main square surface roughness is decreased and the sheet resistance is increased. The increase of sheet resistance is caused by decreasing carrier concentration due to interstitial Ga ion. All films are transparent up to 80% in the visible wavelength range and the adsorption edge is a red-shift with increasing RF power.

  • 현재 자동차용 복합재료를 생산하는데 유리한 제조방법으로는 압축성형 (Compression Molding), 액상성형(Liquid Molding), 인발성형(Pultrusion), 필라멘트 와인딩성형(Filament Winding)등이 있다. 압축성형은 현재 자동차 외장부품 성형에 널리 알려져 있는 SMC(Sheet Molding Compound)성형, 최근에 많은 연구가 되고 있는 LMPC(Low Pressure Molding Compound)성형, GMT(Glass Mat Reinforced Thermoplastics)성형 등이 있다. 액상성형은 RTM(Resin Transfer Molding)과 VARI (Vacuum Assisted Injection Molding), SRIM(Structure Reaction Injection Molding) 등이 있으며, 자동차 산업뿐만 아니라 일반 산업에서도 최근 많은 각광을 받고 있다. 그러므로 본 소고에서는 자동차용 복합재료의 제조에 널리 사용되는 성형공정에 대하여 간단히 살펴보고, 자동차 부품에 있어서의 복합재료 응용 현장과 최근 환경문제가 대두되면서 관심의 초점이 되고 있는 자동차용 복합재료 재활용 기술에 대하여 고찰하고자 한다.
