Influence of gas mixing ration on secondary electron emission coefficient of MgO single crystal with different orientations and MgO protective layer

  • AC-PDP(Plasma Display Panel)에 사용하는 MgO 보호막의 이차전자 방출계수(${\gamma}$)는 AC-PDP의 방전특성을 결정짓는 중요한 요소이다. MgO 보호막의 이차전자 방출계수는 AC-PDP에 주입하는 기체의 종류에 영향을 받는다. 현재 AC-PDP에는 방전특성의 향상과 VUV 발생을 위하여 He, Ne, Ar, Xe 등의 비활성기체를 두가지 혹은 세가지로 혼합한 혼합기체가 사용되고 있다. 기체를 혼합할 경우 Penning 효과에 의해 더 좋은 방전특성을 얻을 수 있는 것으로 알려져 왔으며, 이때의 적절한 혼합비율을 찾는 것은 AC-PDP의 효율 개선에 매우 중요하다. 이번 실험에서는 (111), (100), (110) 각각의 방향으로 배향된 MgO Bulk Crystal과 MgO 보호막의 이차전자방출계수를 He+Ne+Xe 삼원기체를 사용하였다. MgO 보호막은 실제 21inch 규격의 Panel을 사용하였으며, 혼합기체의 혼합비율의 Ne:Xe을 99:1, 98:2, 96:4, 93:7과 He+Ne+Xe의 삼원기체로 다양하게 변화시켜 가며 실험하였다.

New Red Phosphor with the Improved Color Purity for PDP Applications

  • As a new host material for a red phosphor for PDP applications, has studied (Y,Gd)$Al_3(BO_3)_4$ which gives non-centrosymmetric sites for $Eu^{3+}$ activators. Vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) excitation spectrum of new red phosphor (Y,Gd)$Al_3(BO_3)_4$:$Eu^{3+}$ has two broad bands. One band with the absorption edge at ca. 168 nm is the band-gap absorption of aluminoborate and the other broad band centered 240 nm is the charge transfer transition between $Eu^{3+}$ and the neighboring oxygen anions. The PL spectrum shows the strongest emission at 617 nm due to the electric dipole $^5D_0{\rightarrow}^7F_2$ transition of $Eu^{3+}$, whose luminescent chromaticity is (0.67, 0.33).

  • The structural and optical properties on $Tb^{3+}$ addition into LiGd$(PO_3)_4$ compound were investigated by X-ray powder diffraction and photoluminescence spectroscopy. The emission spectrum shows the strongest peak corresponding to the $^5D_4{\rightarrow}^7F_5$ transition of $Tb^{3+}$ at 546 nm under 147 nm and 173 nm excitation. 85 mol% concentration of $Tb^{3+}$ for LiGd$(PO_3)_4$ is much higher than other Tb-doped phosphors.

MgO 보호막은 실제 21inch 규격의 Panel을 사용하였다.

  • A new $Mg_{2-x}MN_xSnO_4$ phosphor with an inverse spinel structure was synthesized by the solid-state reaction technique. The photoluminescence properties of the $Mg_2SnO_4$:Mn phosphors were investigated under 147nm -vacuum ultraviolet ray excitation. The Mn-doped $Mg_2SnO_4$ phosphor exhibited high emission intensity with the spectrum centered at 500nm wavelength. It was explained that the green emission in $Mg_2SnO_4$:Mn phosphor has originated from energy transfer from $^4T_1$ to $^6A_1$ of $Mn^{2+}$ ion at tetrahedral site of the spinel structure. The $Mn^{2+}$ ion concentration exhibiting the maximum emission intensity under the excitation of 147nm-vacuum ultraviolet ray was 0.25mol%. And the decay time of the phosphor was shorter than 10ms.

  • AC-PDP에서 발광 휘도와 발광 효율의 개선은 매우 중요한 과제중의 하나이다. 높은 발광 휘도와 발광 효율을 위해선 VUV의 높은 발광 효율이 요구되어진다. 이 실험에서는 AC-PDP에서 Ne-Xe의 2원 혼합기체와 He-Ne-Xe의 3원 혼합기체의 VUV 발광 세기를 측정하였다. 기체 압력은 200 Torr, 300 Torr, 400 Torr, 500 Torr로 유지하였고, Xe 혼합비는 1%, 2%, 4%, 7%, 10%, 15%를 사용하였다. 진공자외선 발광 세기는 He-Ne-Xe의 3원 혼합기체가 Ne-Xe의 2원 혼합기체보다 발광 세기가 훨씬 높다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 그리고 Xe 함량이 증가함에 따라 공명선인 147 nm의 발광 세기는 Xe 혼합비가 약 10%까지는 증가하다가 10% 이후에는 포화되고, 반면 분자선인 173 nm은 Xe 함량과 가스 압력이 증가함에 따라 발광 세기가 증가하였다.

  • Detection of halogens using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) in open air is very difficult since their strong atomic emission lines are located in VUV region. In NIR region, there are other emission lines of halogens through electronic transitions between excited states. However, these lines undergo Stark broadening severely. We report the observation of the emission lines of halogens in laser-induced plasma (LIP) spectra in NIR region using a helium gas flow. Particularly, the emission lines of iodine at 804.374 and 905.833 nm from LIPs have been observed for the first time. In the helium ambient gas, Stark broadening of the emission lines and background continuum emission could be suppressed significantly. Variations of the line intensity, plasma temperature, and electron density with the helium flow rate was investigated. Detection of chlorine and bromine in flame retardant of rubbers was demonstrated using this method. Finally, we suggest a pulsed helium gas jet as a practical and ecomonical helium gas source for the LIBS analysis of halogens in open air.

Luminous phosphor with modified surface composition and microwave treatment for plasma planar back light

  • Highly luminescent efficiency phosphors have been successfully produced by surface modification and microwave irradiation treatment. The SEM image and XRD analysis reveal that the surface morphology of the white-light phosphors can be notably modified by microwave irradiation and exhibit with better crystalline property. The VUV PL spectra show that the microwave irradiation treatment can effectively enhance the luminescent efficiency by a factor of 1.5 times for intensity compared to that without microwave treatment. A further improvement in all visible emission can be made by modifying surface composition through MgO coating on the phosphor powder. These results demonstrate that such a simple approach can provide for improving luminescent efficiency of phosphors for the optoelectronic devices.

Effect of pH and Drying Temperature on Luminescent Properties of Zn2SiO4:Mn,Al Green Phosphors by Sol-Gel Technique (졸-겔 합성에서 pH 및 건조온도가 Zn2SiO4:Mn,Al 녹색 형광체의 발광특성에 미치는 영향)

  • In order to improve the performance of green emitting phosphors for plasma display panel, the $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn,Al$ phosphors were synthesized using sol-gel technique and studied using SEM and VUV photoluminescence spectrometer. pH values of the starting solutions (pH = 0.5$\~$2.34) were controled by HCl as the catalysis of hydrolysis and wet gels were dried at $80^{\circ}C$ and $120^{\circ}C$, respectively. We investigated the effects of pH and drying temperatures during sol-gel processes. The results indicated that the phosphor prepared at pH = 1 showed the maximum emission intensity in both drying conditions and the effect of pH of the starting solution on morphology were increased with particle size as HCl and phosphor dried at high temperature showed more spherical and smaller particles than at low.

  • We have synthesized some phosphors in the system $CaO-Y_2$$O_3$-$Al_2$$O_3$by combinatorial polymerized-complex method. Composition and synthetic temperature of phosphors in the library was screened from the emission intensities of individual samples under VUV excitation. In $Tb^{ 3+}$-activated $CaO-Y_2$$O_3$-$Al_2$$O_3$, green phosphors showing good intensity were found to be X$O_3$$O_{7}$, CaYA1O$_4$, YA1O$_3$, $Y_3$$Al_{5}$$O_{12}$, $Y_4$$A1_2$$O_{9}$ .
