Tb3+ and Ce3+ Intercalated Laponite Powder: The Influence of Ce3+ Ions on Thermal Stability and Optical Properties of Tb3+ Intercalated Laponite

  • Laponite samples intercalated with $Tb^{3+}$ or $Tb^{3+},Ce^{3+}$ ions were prepared by exchange of Na+ ions in interlayers with $Tb^{3+}$ or $Ce^{3+}$ ions. Strong green and weak blue emissions under vacuum ultraviolet (VUV) excitation (${\lambda}$ = 158 nm) were observed due to the $^5D_4{\rightarrow}^7F_J$ and $^5D_3{\rightarrow}^7F_J$ emission lines, respectively. $Tb^{3+}$ ions in an interlayer of laponite mainly existed in ion pairs or clusters, as evidenced by the concentration-dependent luminescence of the $Tb^{3+}$ ions on the relative intensities of the $^5D_3{\rightarrow}^7F_J$ and the $^5D_4{\rightarrow}^7F_J$ emission lines, due to the action of a cross-relaxation process. The addition of $Ce^{3+}$ ions increased the thermal stability of $Tb^{3+}$ intercalated laponite up to $650^{\circ}C$ and quenched the $^5D_3{\rightarrow}^7F_J$ emission lines, probably by promoting the formation of $Tb^{3+}$ ion pairs at relatively low $Tb^{3+}$ concentrations.

  • 본 연구에서는 광전자 소자에 폭넓게 사용되는 ZnCdSe 화합물 반도체의 end-point인 CdSe의 유전함수 spectrum을 Vacuum Ultra Violet spectroscopic ellipsometry(타원편광분석법) 측정하여 분석하였다. 측정 결과는 변수화 모델을 이용하여 분석하였으며 그 결과 6 eV 이상에 존재하는 전자전이점들을 확인할 수 있었고 CdSe의 Critical Point(CP) 구조를 수치화 함으로써 온도나 화합물 함량에 따른 광특성 의존성 연구 등에 활용될 수 있는 database를 확보하였다.

Luminous phosphor with modified surface composition and microwave treatment for plasma planar back light

  • Highly luminescent efficiency phosphors have been successfully produced by surface modification and microwave irradiation treatment. The SEM image and XRD analysis reveal that the surface morphology of the white-light phosphors can be notably modified by microwave irradiation and exhibit with better crystalline property. The VUV PL spectra show that the microwave irradiation treatment can effectively enhance the luminescent efficiency by a factor of 1.5 times for intensity compared to that without microwave treatment. A further improvement in all visible emission can be made by modifying surface composition through MgO coating on the phosphor powder. These results demonstrate that such a simple approach can provide for improving luminescent efficiency of phosphors for the optoelectronic devices.

  • The improvement of efficiency is the one of the most important part in AC PDPs . To achieve high efficiency, high VUV emission efficiency and High ion induces secondary electron emission coefficient are needed. We have measured the emission spectra of vacuum ultraviolet rays and ion induced secondary electron emission coefficient of MgO protective layer in surface discharge AC-PDP with binary and ternary gas mixtures. We have investigated electro-optical characteristics of AC-PDPs to optimum gas mixture for high efficient.

Preparation of dense $BaMgAl_{10}O_{17}:Eu^{2+}$ particles and their surface treatment

  • Dense $BaMgAl_{10}O_{17}:Eu^{2+}$ phosphor particles with a spherical shape have been synthesized through spray pyrolysis method using basic aluminum nitrate precursor as a spray solution. This $BaMgAl_{10}O_{17}:Eu^{2+}$ particles prepared by the spray pyrolysis have shown the stronger emission intensity compared to the commercially-available $BaMgAl_{10}O_{17}:Eu^{2+}$. However, thermal stability of the BAM:Eu b lue phosphor is very poor due to changing from $Eu^{2+}$ to $Eu^{3+}$ at the thermal process, so brightness of the phosphor decreases. To improve the thermal stability of the dense BAM:Eu phosphor, the spherical BAM:Eu particles were coated with pure $BaMgAl_{10}O_{17}$ layer using the hydrolysis reaction in a solution system. The synthesized powders were characterized by XRD, SEM and PL. On the other hand, the emission properties of the BAM:Eu phosphors coated with $BaMgAl_{10}O_{17}$ layer before and after thermal treatment at $500^{\circ}C$ for 30 min were estimated under VUV excitation. The brightness of the coated phosphor was higher than that of the uncoated phosphor. Also, the coating thickness of BAM layer in the BAM:Eu particles was optimized.

초음파 분무 열분해법에 의한 바륨 헥사알루미네이트(${Ba_{1.3}}{Al_{12}}{O_{19}}$:$Mn^{2+}$) 제조 및 전구체 종류에 따른 형성과 발광 특성 (Synthesis of (${Ba_{1.3}}{Al_{12}}{O_{19}}$:$Mn^{2+}$) by Ultrasonic Spray Pyrolysis and Effect of Precursor Type on Morphology and Photoluminescence)

  • 본 연구에서는 PDP용 녹색 형광체의 대안인 $Ba_{1.3}$A $l_{12}$ $O_{19}$:$Mn^{2+}$ 분말을 초음파 분무 열분해법으로 합성하였으며 활성제인 $Mn^{2+}$의 첨가량과 모체를 구성하는 바륨 및 알루미늄의 전구체 물질들의 조합을 변화시킴으로써 형광체 분말의 형태 및 발광특성을 조절하였다. 최적의 발광 휘도를 나타내는 $Mn^{2+}$의 농도는 0.25몰을 첨가하였을 때이며 녹색 발광 영역인 517nm에서 최대 발광 효율을 나타내었다. 바륨의 전구체 물질로는 초산염, 질산염, 염화물 및 수산화물을 사용하였으며 알루미늄 전구체 물질로는 질산염 및 염화물을 사용하였다. 전구체는 합성된 분말의 형상에 영향을 미치는데 구형을 유지하거나 혹은 뭉치거나 구형이 깨지는 등 전구체 조합에 따라 얻어지는 분말의 형태가 달라졌다. 합성된 형광체 분말들은 일반적인 고상 반응의 온도보다 낮은 열처리 온도인 140$0^{\circ}C$, 5시간 유지에서는 좋은 VUV 발광 특성을 가졌다. 또한 전구체의 조합은 형광체 발광 효율에도 영향을 미치는데 바륨과 알루미늄은 염화물을, 망간은 질산염을 사용하였을 때 가장 좋은 발광 휘도를 나타내었다.다.다.다.

졸-겔 합성에서 pH 및 건조온도가 Zn2SiO4:Mn,Al 녹색 형광체의 발광특성에 미치는 영향 (Effect of pH and Drying Temperature on Luminescent Properties of Zn2SiO4:Mn,Al Green Phosphors by Sol-Gel Technique)

  • In order to improve the performance of green emitting phosphors for plasma display panel, the $Zn_2SiO_4:Mn,Al$ phosphors were synthesized using sol-gel technique and studied using SEM and VUV photoluminescence spectrometer. pH values of the starting solutions (pH = 0.5$\~$2.34) were controled by HCl as the catalysis of hydrolysis and wet gels were dried at $80^{\circ}C$ and $120^{\circ}C$, respectively. We investigated the effects of pH and drying temperatures during sol-gel processes. The results indicated that the phosphor prepared at pH = 1 showed the maximum emission intensity in both drying conditions and the effect of pH of the starting solution on morphology were increased with particle size as HCl and phosphor dried at high temperature showed more spherical and smaller particles than at low.

함침법에 의한 Y(P,V)O4:Eu3+ 형광체의 합성 및 발광특성 (Preparation and Luminescence Properties of Y(P,V)O4:Eu3+ Phosphor using Impregnation Method)

  • The $Eu^{3+}$ doped $Y(P_x,V_{1-x})O_4$ (0 ${\leq}$ x ${\leq}$ 1) phosphors were synthesized by solid-state and impregnation method and investigated as potential red-emitting phosphors for a plasma display panel(PDP). The optimal substitution proportion of P for V was determined to be 60 mol%, for $Y(P_x,V_{1-x})O_4$ doped with 8 mol% $Eu^{3+}$. The VUV PL spectra and SEM for the synthesized phosphors were measured and compared against those of a commercial red-emission phosphor. The $Y(P_x,V_{1-x})O_4$:$Eu^{3+}$ phosphors exhibited strong red at around 592, 618 and 698 nm. The emission intensity and particle size of the phosphors were controlled by preparation conditions.

Production of high dissolved O2/O3 with rotating wheel entraining gas method for environmental application

  • There is a significant demand to make various dissolved gases in water. However, the conventional aeration method shows low gas mass transfer rate and gas utilization efficiency. In this study, a novel rotating wheel entraining gas method was developed for making high dissolved $O_2$ and $O_3$ in water. It produced higher concentration and higher transfer rate of dissolved $O_2$ and $O_3$ than conventional bubble aeration method, especially almost 100% of gas transfer efficiency was achieved for $O_3$ in enclosed reactor. For application of rotating wheel entraining gas method, aerobic bio-reactor and membrane bio-reactor (MBR) were successfully used for treatment of domestic and pharmaceutical wastewater, respectively; and vacuum ultraviolet $(VUV)/UV+O_3/O_2$ reactors were well used for sterilization in air/water, removal of dust particles and toxic gases in air, and degradation of pesticide residue and sterilization on fruits and vegetables.

조합화학을 이용한 CaO-Y2O3-Al2O3계의 Tb활성 형광체의 합성 및 검색 (Combinatorial Synthesis and Screening of the Tb-activated Phosphors in the System CaO-Y2O3-Al2O3)

  • We have synthesized some phosphors in the system $CaO-Y_2$$O_3$-$Al_2$$O_3$by combinatorial polymerized-complex method. Composition and synthetic temperature of phosphors in the library was screened from the emission intensities of individual samples under VUV excitation. In $Tb^{ 3+}$-activated $CaO-Y_2$$O_3$-$Al_2$$O_3$, green phosphors showing good intensity were found to be X$O_3$$O_{7}$, CaYA1O$_4$, YA1O$_3$, $Y_3$$Al_{5}$$O_{12}$, $Y_4$$A1_2$$O_{9}$ .
