기후변화에 따른 극한기상의 취약성 지수 정량화 연구 - 태풍을 중심으로 - (Quantification of Climate Change Vulnerability Index for Extreme Weather - Focused on Typhoon case -)

  • 기후노출, 민감도, 적응능력의 3가지 항목의 함수로 정의되는 취약성-탄력성 지수인 VRI(Vulnerability-Resilience Index)를 이용하여 기후변화로 더 심각해 질 것으로 예상되는 극한 기상 현상인 태풍을 대상으로 기후변화 취약성 지수 정량화 연구를 수행하였다. 기존 취약성 지수인 VRI는 기후변화 취약성에 대한 지자체별 상대적 차이만을 보여 주므로 그 정량화 연구는 매우 필수불가결하며 우리나라 기후변화 대응 정책에도 매우 중요하다. VRI의 정량화를 위하여 과거 20년간 태풍으로 인한 피해액, 발생횟수, 주요 피해지역 등의 통계 정보가 사용되었고, 기후노출 대용변수들에 가중치를 부여하기 이전과 이후의 계산되는 VRI를 각각 지자체별로 분석하였다. VRI의 정량화를 위하여 각 기후노출 대용변수를 하나씩 이용하여 계산한 다음 계산된 VRI를 태풍 피해액과의 상관계수(R)를 구하였고, 이 값에 비례하여 각 기후노출 대용변수들의 가중치를 결정하였다. 그 결과 가중치 없이 계산한 지역별 VRI는 상당 지역에서 피해액과의 상관성이 없는 등 상당한 차이를 보였으나 가중치를 부여한 결과 계산된 VRI는 지역별 피해액과 높은 상관관계를 보이는 등 많은 오류가 크게 줄었다. 이 결과를 토대로 VRI를 정량화하여 그 피해액을 추정해본 결과 VRI=1 일 경우 약 5백억원의 지자체 피해액을 유발하는 것으로 해석할 수 있었다. 이러한 기후변화 취약성 지수의 정량화 연구는 우리나라 미래기후 시나리오연구에 효과적으로 활용될 수 있을 것으로 판단된다.

  • Background: Pneumonia is commonly seen in outpatient clinics. it is widely known as the most common cause of death from infectious disease. Pneumonia has been diagnosed by its typical symptoms, chest X-ray and blood tests. However, both chest X-rays and blood tests have limitations in diagnosis. Thus primary care clinicians usually have been constrained due to a lack of adequate diagnostic tools. Vibration response imaging (VRI) is a newly emerging diagnostic modality, and its procedure is non-invasive, radiation-free, and easy to handle. This study was designed to evaluate the diagnostic usefulness of the VRI test among pneumonia patients and to consider its correlation with other conventional tests such as Chest X-ray, laboratory tests and clinical symptoms. Methods: VRI was performed in 46 patients diagnosed with pneumonia in Konkuk University Medical Center. VRI was assessed in a private and quiet room twice: before and after the treatment. Sensors for VRI were placed on a patient's back at regular intervals; they detected pulmonary vibration energy produced when respiration occurred and presented as specific images. Any modifications either in chest X-ray, C-reactive protein (CRP), white blood cell count (WBC) or body temperature were compared with changes in VRI image during a given time course. Results: VRI, chest X-ray and CRP scores were significantly improved after treatment. Correlation between VRI and other tests was not clearly indicated among all patients. But relatively severe pneumonia patients showed correlations between VRI and chest X-ray, as well as between VRI and CRP. Conclusion: This study demonstrates that VRI can be safely applied to patients with pneumonia.

PCR과 RFLP분석을 이용한 transmissible gastroenteritis virus의 spike glycoprotein gene과 nonstructural protein gene의 분석 (Analysis of the spike glycoprotein gene and nonstructural protein gene of transmissible gastroenteritis virus using PCR and RFLP analysis)

  • To analyze the genomic diversity of transmissible gastroenteritis virus (TGEV), the N-terminal half of the spike (S) glycoprotein gene and nonstructural protein gene (open reading frames 3 and 3-1) were amplified by reverse transcriptase reaction and polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR), and analyzed using restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) patterns of the amplified DNA. In this study, TGEV Miller (M6) and Purdue (P115) strains were used as reference strains, and two vaccine strains (MSV and STC3) and four Korea isolates (P44, VRI-WP, VRI-41, and VRI-48) were analyzed. All TGEV strains were amplified with three TGEV primer pairs. Although there was some exception in RFLP analysis, this method differentiated TGEV strains into following groups : Miller group (M6 and MSV), Purdue group (PUS, STC3, P44, VRI-WP, VRI-41, and VRI-48). Using Sau3AI and SspI, VRI-48 was differentiated from the Miller and Purdue type viruses. The RT/PCR in conjuction with RFLP analysis was a rapid and valuable tool for differentiating several strains of TGEV. This study revealed the occurences of distinct difference in genome of TGEV strains.

  • In this paper we interface Tangible Devices (i.e. Haptic Devices) for 3D Virtual World based on MPEG-RoSE syntax. We called it Virtual World and Real World Interface (VRI). The VRI Technology project intends to provide virtual world information to real world and tangible experience to user of virtual world through tangible devices.

모니터기반 가상현실게임을 이용한 중재가 급성기 뇌졸중 환자의 인지 기능과 일상생활활동에 미치는 영향에 대한 사전연구: 이중 맹검 무작위 대조 시험 연구 (A Preliminary Study of the Effects of Monitor-Based Virtual Reality Games on the Cognition & Activities of Daily Living for Acute Stroke : A Double-blind Randomized Controled Trial)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 4주 동안 모니터기반 가상현실게임 중재가 급성기 뇌졸중 환자의 인지 기능과 일상생활활동에 미치는 영향에 대해 알아보기 위함이었다. 본 연구는 급성기 뇌졸중 환자 19명이 참여하였다. 모니터기반 가상현실 게임중재와 전산화 인지중재의 효과성을 비교하기 위하여, 두 집단에 1일 30분, 주 5회, 총 4주 중재하였고, 효과에 대한 측정은 TMT A & B, DST, RKMT, K-MBI를 중재 전과 후에 실시하였다. 실험군에서는 모든 변수에 대해 유의미한 향상을 보였으나, 대조군에서는 TMT A와 DST을 제외한 항목에서만 유의미한 향상을 보였다. 본 연구를 통하여, 가상현실게임 중재가 뇌졸중 환자의 인지 기능과 일상생활활동에 효과적인 치료로 적용될 가능성을 확인하였다. 또한 모니터기반 가상현실게임 중재가 인지중재를 필요로 하는 환자들에게 임상에 있는 작업치료사들이 유용하게 사용될 수 있을 것이라 사료된다.

HCG10에 속한 나선은하 NGC 531, NGC 536, NGC 542의 VRI CCD 표면측광 (VRI SURFACE PHOTOMETRY OF THE SPIRAL GALAXIES NGC 531, NGC 536, AND NGC 542 IN HCG10)

  • We performed VRI CCD surface photometry of three spiral galaxies of HCG10 in order to understand the effect of interactions in the compact group. The morphology of the largest member NGC 536 seems to be normal but its bulge is thought to be of an oblate spheroid. The central surface brightness of the disk of NGC 536 is much fainter than that of disks of nearby spiral galaxies. The morphologies of NGC 531 and NGG 542 appear to be affected by interactions which lead to a warped disk in NGC 531 and a slightly bent disk in NGC 542. NGC 531 have a boxy bulge and a Freeman Type II disk both of which strongly suggest the presence of a bar in the galaxy. There is a break in the slope of the luminosity profile of NGC 542 which is dominated by the disk component.

Characteristics of Vibration Response Imaging in Healthy Koreans

  • Background: Vibration response imaging (VRI) is a new technology that records energy generated by airflow during the respiration cycle. Analysis of lung sound using VRI may overcome the limitations of auscultation. Objectives: To set a VRI standard for healthy Koreans, we conducted a clinical assessment to evaluate breath sound images and quantification in healthy subjects and compared the findings with reported breath sound characteristics. Methods: Recordings were performed using the VRIxp. Eighty subjects took a deep breath four times during a 12-second interval while sitting upright. The quantitative aspect was analyzed using the VRI quantitative lung data (QLD) for total left lung, total right lung and for six lung regions: left upper lung (LUL), left middle lung (LML), left lower lung (LLL), right upper lung (RUL), right middle lung (RML), right lower lung (RLL). The qualitative aspect was provided through image assessments by three reviewers. Results: In all regions the left lung had significantly higher QLD than the right lung (P<0.005, paired t-test). The inter-rater agreement was 0.78. 84% of the images were found normal by the final assessment. Among the 16% (n=13) of images with abnormal final assessment, the most common flawed features were dynamic image (77%, n=10) and maximum energy frame (MEF) shape (77%, n=10). No significant differences were found between males and females for QLD but there were significant differences in qualitative aspects including dynamic images, MEF shape, and missing LLL. Conclusion: The characteristics of healthy Koreans are similar to those of Western subjects reported previously. VRI is easy to use and objective, and so is helpful to diagnose patients with respiratory diseases and to monitor the progress of diseases after medical treatments.

한약 사용 후 흡연자에서 폐기능 향상과 삶의 질 개선 (Improving Lung Function and Quality of Life in Smokers after Taking Herbal Medicine)

  • We investigated the lung function change and quality of life in smokers after taking herbal medicine. The patients were divided into two groups(smoking and non-smoking). We measured lung function change by VRI and quality of life by BDI and Fatigue Scale Score before and after herbal medicine intake. And we examined changes of nicotine dependence, total smoking amount, tobacco flavor in smoking group. The VRI energy bar could not represent the change of the lung function in smoking group and non-smoking group. And there was no change of lung function by VRI in two group patients before and after herb medication. But after taking herb medicine, the patients who have abnormal sound in VRI were improved. The herbal medicine does not affect to the amount of smoking, tobacco flavor, nicotine dependence in Smoking patients. Smoking group were higher than non-smokers in BDI score and Fatigue Scale score. Smoking group were more improved than the non-smokers in BDI and Fatigue Scale Score after taking herbal medicine.

표준화 방법에 따른 기후변화 취약성 지수의 민감성 연구 (Study on Sensitivity of different Standardization Methods to Climate Change Vulnerability Index)

  • IPCC showed that calculation of climate vulnerability index requires standardization process of various proxy variables for the estimation of climate exposure, sensitivity, and adaptive capacity. In this study, four different methodologies of standardization methods: Z-score, Rescaling, Ranking, and Distance to the reference country, are employed to evaluate climate vulnerability-VRI (Vulnerability-Resilience Indicator) over Korean peninsula, and the error ranges of VRI, arising from employing the different standardization are estimated. All of proxy variables are provided by CCGIS (Climate Change adaptation toolkit based on GIS) which hosts information on both past and current socio-economic data and climate and environmental IPCC SRES (A2, B1, A1B, A1T, A1FI, and A1 scenarios) climate data for the decades of 2000s, 2020s, 2050s, and 2100s. The results showed that Z-score and Rescaling methods showed statistically undistinguishable results with minor differences of spatial distribution, while Ranking and Distance to the reference country methods showed some possibility to lead the different ranking of VRI among South Korean provinces, depending on the local characteristics and reference province. The resultant VRIs calculated from different standardization methods showed Cronbach's alpha of more than 0.84, indicating that all of different methodologies were overall consistent. Similar horizontal distributions were shown with the same trends: VRI increases as province is close to the coastal region and/or it close toward lower latitude, and decreases as it is close to urbanization area. Other characteristics of the four different standardization are discussed in this study.

W UMa형 식쌍성 AK Herculis의 측광학적 연구 (PHOTOMETRIC STUDY OF THE W UMA TYPE ECLIPSING BINARY AK HERCULIS)

  • 소백산 천문대에서 1997년 2월부터 1998년 3월까지 총 3일 밤 동안 VRI 필터를 가지고 AK Her에 대한 CCD 측광관측을 수행하여 얻은 관측점의 수는 V는 236점, R은 198점, I는 197점이다. 관측 기간 동안 주극심과 부극심 시각을 각각 1개씩 관측하였으며, 우리의 관측자료를 가지고 VRI 광도곡선과 (O-C)도를 만들었다. Wilson-Devinney 방법으로 우리의 광도곡선을 분석한 결과 AK Her는 접촉형 (모드 3)의 경우는 해를 구할 수 없었고, 나머지(모드2, 4, 5)에 대해서는 접촉형에 가까운 분리형 또는 반분리형이라고 할 수 있었다. 우리의 최근자료를 가지고 만든 (O-C)도에서 AK Her 공전주기는 Borkovits & Hegedus의 예상과는 다르게 1990년도 이후 증가하는 변화가 나타났다.
