  • This paper proposes a CAE data translation and visualization technique that can verify time-varying continuous analysis simulation in a virtual reality (VR) environment. In previous research, the use of CAE analysis data has been problematic because of the lack of any interactive simulation controls for visualizing continuous simulation data. Moreover, the research on post-processing methods for real-time verification of CAE analysis data has not been sufficient. We therefore propose a scene graph based visualization method and a post-processing method for supporting interoperability of continuous CAE analysis data. These methods can continuously visualize static analysis data independently of any timeline; it can also continuously visualize dynamic analysis data that varies in relation to the timeline. The visualization system for continuous simulation data, which includes a CAE middleware that interfaces with various formats of CAE analysis data as well as functions for visualizing continuous simulation data and operational functions, enables users to verify simulation results with more realistic scenes. We also use the system to do a performance evaluation with regard to the visualization of continuous simulation data.

  • The methods of presenting information are more variable with advanced computer media technology. However, when we visualize information of database, it is more difficult to understand data meaning by complex date, which is not required by user. To compose new information, user needs to combine own his memory and new information presenting result. To be quickly explored new information and be exactly understood relationship of data structure, the data presenting of visualized information is more structured and presented with meaning form. It is possible to make information visualization system, which users can explore database by oneself, with supporting interaction to be able to control and combine relationship of three-dimensional scene graphic structure, presenting factors of animation and data structure of database. There are several diagrams, such as VR diagram, Form structure diagram and simulated diagram as the case study.

  • The interactive virtual reality technology has used in scientific inquiry learning since it can overcome the restriction of real world and it draws user's interest and foster active participation. However, prior works are mostly designed for a specific inquiry learning lesson and it is quite difficult to use them for constructing other inquiry learning environments. Hence, we developed the integrated virtual reality system, SASILE (System for Augmenting Scientific Inquiry Learning Environments), that helps ease the development of the scientific inquiry learning environment. In this paper, we first describe the related works on supporting VR scientific inquiry learning systems, followed by the SASILE system architecture and implementation. Then, we illustrate the use of this system to develop a Virtual Moyangsung application for teaching a scientific structure of Korean traditional house by exploring and observing the convection currents as well as a Mars Rover application for estimating the asteroid impacts on Mars by measuring rock properties. Finally, we will discuss the future research directions for this system.

  • In this paper, we propose a new paradigm of augmented reality board game environment and a portable game assistant(PGA) which can help gamers with strategy information. Previous AR board games consist of a private and public space. The public space provides rules of the game and shows the scene of game. And the gamers control game pieces in the public space. The previous games use the RFIDs for recognizing positions of the pieces, and the VR/AR environment for providing the scene of the game. However the RFIDs are expansive, and the VR/AR environment is inconvenient because it uses additional devices: the DataGlove, the digital pen, and the HMD. The proposed system recognizes positions of real pieces using the computer vision technique, and uses a monitor to provide dynamic effects. In the private space, previous systems provide entire screen of game and position of specific pieces, but cannot be controled the pieces by gamers. Therefore, in this system, we provide PGA that helps the user to plan of the strategy individually using universally mobile. The PGA helps to plan the strategy in the individual area, and to play easily in the side of the user's convenience.

  • Interactive electronic technical manual(IETM) for construction projects means an electronic tool that regulations and specifications related to construction method or maintenance process ale described by electronic book type. It has a meaning of integrated information system that includes virtual reality(VR), 3D animation and image contents for representing real construction information so that user can easily understand the construction situation and maintenance process. The basic information and technical manuals of construction facilities are being written as paper documents in our construction industry. As the result, the information management in the maintenance phase of construction projects is inefficient, and maintenance cost is being increased. This study attempts to improve the lack of understanding about construction IETM through the analysis of necessity and unique function of construction IETM comparing with the IETMS in other industry, Finally, this study shows a scenario of construction IErM for mitigating natural disaster of construction facilities to verify applicability of IETM.

  • Technical documents in the construction field are changing from paper documents to electronic ones. As a result, the industry witnesses a trend of using portable electronic devices in searching or retrieving necessary information such as relevant regulations. Despite the improvement in the accessibility to general technical documents, a limitation is still found in accessing the electronic documents on the regulations. We see the barrier for field engineers to enhance their technical knowledge. One of major barriers is that videos, animations, and virtual reality information to enhance the visual understanding of technical content related to regulations are not linked. It is the interactive electronic technical manual (IETM) that can address such issues. The IETM is an electronic document system that enables real-time information acquisition while operating in the form of conversations with users by linking multimedia functions to document types such as specifications and guidelines. This study establishes a model of the IETM that can be operated in the planning stage of a construction project. The study also verifies its usability with a hypothetical case study. This study aims to improve the usability of the IETM in the construction project by analyzing the application effect of the IETM using the AHP technique.

  • Recently, realistic contents such as virtual reality(VR) and augmented reality (AR) are widely used for education to provide beneficial learning environments with thee-dimensional(3D) information and interactive technology. Specially, AR technology will be helpful to intuitively understand by adding virtual objects registered in the real learning environment with effective ways. In this paper, we developed an AR learning system using 3D spatial information in the 2D based textbook for studying math related to geometry. In order to increase spatial learning effect, we applied to solid shapes such as prisms and pyramids in mathematics education process. Also, it allows participants to use various shapes and expression methods (e.g., wireframe mode) with interaction. We conducted the experiment with our AR system, evaluated achievement and interest. Our experimental study showed positive results, our results are expected to provide effective learning methods in various classes through realistic visualization and interaction methods.

  • Criticism of the postmodern philosophy of the system of representation, which has continued since the Renaissance, is based on a critique of the dichotomy that separates the subjects and objects and the environment from the human being. Interactivity, highlighted in a series of works emerging as postmodern trends in the 1960s, was transmitted to an interactive aspect of digital art in the late 1990s. The key feature of digital art is the possibility of infinite variations reflecting unpredictable changes based on public participation on the spot. In this process, the importance of computer programs is highlighted. Instead of using the existing program as it is, more and more artists are creating and programming their own algorithms or creating unique algorithms through collaborations with programmers. We live in an era of paradigm shift in which programming itself must be considered as a creative act. Simulation technology and VR technology draw attention as a technique to represent the meaning of reality. Simulation technology helps artists create experimental works. In fact, Baudrillard's concept of Simulation defines the other reality that has nothing to do with our reality, rather than a reality that is extremely representative of our reality. His book Simulacra and Simulation refers to the existence of a reality entirely different from the traditional concept of reality. His argument does not concern the problems of right and wrong. There is no metaphysical meaning. Applying the concept of simulation to algorithmic art, the artist models the complex attributes of reality in the digital system. And it aims to build and integrate internal laws that structure and activate the world (specific or individual), that is to say, simulate the world. If the images of the traditional order correspond to the reproduction of the real world, the synthesized images of algorithmic art and simulated space-time are the forms of art that facilitate the experience. The moment of seeing and listening to the work of Ian Cheng presented in this article is a moment of personal experience and the perception is made at that time. It is not a complete and closed process, but a continuous and changing process. It is this active and situational awareness that is required to the audience for the comprehension of post-representation's forms.
