The article seeks to explore Ukrainian media art and its features in a global context. In particular, it performs an in-depth analysis of the stages of its development from video art of the 1990s, media installations of the 2000s, and to various digital and VR technologies today. Due to historical circumstances, the development of media art was quite rapid, as young artists sought to gain new experience in media art. Most often, their experience was broadened through international cooperation and studying abroad. The paper analyzes the presentation of Ukrainian media art outside the country during 1993-2020 and distinguishes the main thematic areas of the artists' work. It examines how artists present and reveal the peculiarities of the Ukrainian worldview, aesthetics, and culture through the problematization of certain aspects and themes in their work. Specifically, among the principal topics which are problematized in the work of media artists are a sensory experience, limited sensory capabilities, gender issues, the Chernobyl tragedy, the development of utopian models of the city, and global communication. The leading themes of Ukrainian artists also include revolution and war. Notably, political and social sentiments determine the unique energy and vitality of contemporary Ukrainian art, create a revolutionary creative environment, and unite media artists in group art projects. It is concluded that by showing, exhibiting, and presenting them outside the country, artists shape the image of Ukrainian art in a global context.

Recently, technology of Virtual Reality(VR) based on HMD among various kinds of VR implemented products has received widespread attention. Major IT-related companies around the world participated in VR HMD research and development. Therefore, the possibility of the spread of VR HMD has been highly praised. Demands of VR HMD products using Smart Phone has been especially increased so that it is required to create a high quality of VR contents. The purpose of study in this paper is to apply the depth value of stereoscopic to VR HMD. To implement it, we analyzed VR HMD optical system and converted an experimental image to virtual depth caused by binocular disparity based on the result of calculating NPP(Native Pixel Parallax). We produced the image of stereoscopic applied with the value converted and applied to VR HMD. This study is expected to be utilized as a VR content creation field of quantitative data.
To study how digital content can be effectively developed and transformed in a post-COVID world in which the normal operations of museums have been disrupted, this paper analyzes the rapid development and limitations of VR exhibitions and proposes, as an alternative, the development of AR exhibitions. Studying VR/AR exhibitions that ran before and after COVID-19, this paper finds that VR, on the one hand, translates physical objects into digital video, which lacks aesthetic depth, and encounters operational problems originated by devices. By using mobile devices that are widely distributed and convenient to use, AR exhibitions can, on the other hand, be divided into three types: "museum-specific exhibitions" can present digital content in a specific indoor space, while "place-specific exhibitions" can be used in open outdoor spaces. The "non-place-specific exhibitions", can, as third type, combine digital content with printed material sent by postal mail. Among these three types, the specific/unspecified place type shows the highest "uncontact effect," which can suggest the best direction for effective museum content development in the pandemic era.
VR (Virtual Reality) contents make the audience perceive virtual space as real through the virtual Z axis which creates a space that could not be created in 2D due to the space between the eyes of the audience. This visual change has led to the need for technological changes to sound and sound sources inserted into VR contents. However, studies to increase immersion in VR contents are still more focused on scientific and visual fields. This is because composing and producing VR sounds require professional views in two areas: sound-based engineering and computer-based interactive sound engineering. Sound-based engineering is difficult to reflect changes in user interaction or time and space by directing the sound effects, script sound, and background music according to the storyboard organized by the director. However, it has the advantage of producing the sound effects, script sound, and background music in one track and not having to go through the coding phase. Computer-based interactive sound engineering, on the other hand, is produced in different files, including the sound effects, script sound, and background music. It can increase immersion by reflecting user interaction or time and space, but it can also suffer from noise cancelling and sound collisions. Therefore in this study, the following methods were devised and utilized to produce sound for VR contents called "A Midsummer Night" so as to take advantage of each sound-making technology. First, the storyboard is analyzed according to the user's interaction. It is to analyze sound effects, script sound, and background music which is required according to user interaction. Second, the sounds are classified and analyzed as 'simultaneous sound' and 'individual sound'. Thirdly, work on interaction coding for sound effects, script sound, and background music that were produced from the simultaneous sound and individual time sound categories is done. Then, the contents are completed by applying the sound to the video. By going through the process, sound quality inhibitors such as noise cancelling can be removed while allowing sound production that fits to user interaction and time and space.

With the development of science and technology, virtual reality (VR) has become increasingly popular, being widely used in various fields such as aviation, education, medical science, culture, art, and entertainment. This technology with great potential has changed the way of human-computer interaction and the way people live and entertain. In the field of animation, virtual reality also brings a new viewing form and immersive experience. The paper demonstrates the production of VR animation and then discusses camera's position in VR animation. Where to place the VR camera to bring a comfortable viewing experience. The paper, with the proxemics as its theoretical framework, proposes the hypothesis about the camera position. Then the hypothesis is verified by a series of experiments in animation to discuss the correlation between camera position and proxemics theory.

Recently, construction management technology based on information technology is being changed from numerical information management to visual information management with virtual reality (VR) method. This study suggests a IDEF0 model for development process of VR system for the planning, design and construction phases of civil engineering project. And the simulation functions by each phase based on VR were developed by using the suggested IDEF0 model. The developed virtual construction system can be used as an effective design review tool by visualization of design information based on 3D object.
The Petroglyph is a drawing on the rock which reflects the art, religion, myth, and life style of prehistoric society. Recently lots of researches have been studied to develop the contents applying the petroglyphs in the fields of exhibition, education, entertainment, and commercial. This research aims to find some possible VR contents based on the petroglyphs text. The review on the Ulsan petroglyph museum which is the first and the only petroglyph museum in Korea was the first step. Some limitation and problems were found in the current contents which could be overcome by using VR technology. The next step was the overall review of VR system and devices, and then I analyzed five cases of VR contents which specifically applied to the cultural heritages. Based on the analysis of case studies I propose some possible VR contents more immersive and interactive covered with whole range of petroglyphs context, environmental, social, cultural, technical and artistic.
Applying VR technology to animation areas is emerging as a trend of recent years. So if you use this VR technology in traditional ink animation, 2D art piece is expected to be equipped with a new narrative style and visual and auditory language, making it a new animation genre. There's a lot of technical difficulties in putting the existing 2D ink image on a 360 degree display. VR ink animation has been created that gives depth to VR space by using layer extraction method based on depth of distance and placing layers extracted on curved surface that is aligned with depth in 360-degree space in the image of ink painting, which is the background of traditional ink animation. In the text, we took an overview on problems generated in extracting layers of distant view, close-range view and middle distant view from the existing image of ink painting and made suggestions of an effective way to approach them.
The virtual reality (VR) cartoon is a format of VR contents that leverage the characteristics of webtoons that provides the simple story line and graphical storytelling tools to strategically surmount limitations of VR contents design. The VR cartoon enables people to experience the imaginary three-dimensional space in the webtoon as a real space by the transformation of webtoon contents through VR prototyping. The VR cartoon successfully presents focused environment where people can readily pay attention to the contents without notable motion sickness. People have been familiar with the storytelling strategy in the context of published cartoons and webtoons, likely we've understood the narrative of a movie through the continuous scenes projected in the screen. Indeed, it has been recognized as a popular toolset of communication, where visual images are sequentially delivered by replacing multiple planar spaces to tell a story narrative. While there are discrete panels with the time and space resolution in the graphical cartoons, people can distill a commit closure based on their past experiences. This is a typical "grammar" of the cartoon, which can be extrapolated to the VR cartoon that provides a seminal storytelling strategy. In this article, we review how the storytelling strategy in webtoons has been transformed into that in VR cartoons, and analyze the key components of VR cartoons. We envision that our research can potentially create keystones to produce variety of new VR contents by reflecting various narrative media including cartoon as a 'sequential art'.

Attention mechanisms have been used in deep learning-based computer vision systems, including single image super-resolution (SISR) networks. However, existing SISR networks with attention mechanism focused on real image super-resolution, so it is hard to know whether they are available for CG or VR images. In this paper, we attempt to apply a recent attention module, called balanced attention mechanism (BAM) module, to 12 state-of-the-art SISR networks, and then check whether the BAM module can achieve performance improvement in CG or VR image super-resolution. In our experiments, it has been confirmed that the performance improvement in CG or VR image super-resolution is limited and depends on data characteristics, size, and network type.
