Real time multimedia data services have been made possible by the rapid development of the computer and internet technology. Based on the technology, Many multimedia system developer try to use VOD(Video on Demand) and GVA technologies for distance education. However the system has mainly been developed to provide the video screen of good quality in real time and to compose contents efficiently. Not many researches and developments have been made for providing the users that is taking distance education with various types of service using VOD and GVA. Therefore In this paper we have designed and implemented an active on-demand multimedia service system to improve user-side service quality in distance education using VOD and GVA service. The on-demand multimedia service system can prominently help users to save the time and effort to search and select the studying data by this paper enables off-line search functions through E-mail and periodical current awareness service supported by PUSH technology, user oriented information booking supported by SDI service and feedback service.

Recently, as network environment has broadened, the demands on VOD have been increased. The VOD services can be categorized into two types, RVOD and NVOD. Practical VOD services adopt one of them exclusively. Since a method using only one of RVOD and NVOD is not able to deal with frequently variable demand of clients, it leads to a result of overload on a server and a waste of server bandwidth. The efficiency of the network resource usage becomes lower. Hence this paper presents a study on the protocol for efficient VOD services. We propose a new protocol appliable for the existing VOD service algorithm, analyze its performance through simulation, and developed server/client systems applying the new protocol. We propose a mode switching protocol combined with protocols used in RVOD and NVOD. The proposed protocol is not able only to control both RVOD and NVOD but also to change the mode between RVOD and NVOD. As a result of using the proposed protocol to meet frequently variable demand, server bandwidth can be used efficiently. Especially, it can be applied to the existing VOD service algorithms. Therefore, we expect that the proposed protocol in this paper will be widely used in emerging VOD markets.

VOD service provides an additional revenue model for digital broadcasting companies in addition to the existing subscription fees and advertisement-based revenue models. Therefore, each digital broadcasting company develops its own VOD service and performs frequent improvement work. In this circumstance, the developer is seeking to improve the efficiency of the VOD service development. To address the needs of such developers, this study conducted a basic study to apply the feature-oriented analysis model to the development of VOD services. The feature-oriented analysis model is recognized (through a number of case studies) as an effective tool for analyzing the requirements of softwares with the functions that are interconnected organically. In this paper, we developed a feature model of VOD service and designed the primary functions of each feature and the test-cases that can test the these functions, laying the foundation for developing VOD services based on feature-oriented analysis model.

VOD 서버에 서비스를 요청하는 단말장치의 종류가 다양해짐으로 인해 VOD 서비스 사업자가 제공해야 하는 해상도의 종류 역시 다양해지고 있다. 단말장치가 서비스를 요청할 때 서버는 단말장치에 맞는 해상도로 서비스를 제공해야 하는데 대개의 경우 서버의 용량이 제한되어 있기 때문에 비디오별로 모든 해상도를 저장하고 있을 수는 없다. 단말장치가 서버에 저장되어 있는 해상도를 요청한 경우라면 바로 서비스가 가능하다. 하지만 단말장치가 서버에 저장되어 있지 않은 해상도를 요청해 왔다면 저장되어 있던 파일을 이용해 해상도를 변환한 후 서비스를 해주어야 한다. 만약 서버가 해상도를 변환하는 빈도가 높아 CPU 가용률이 충분하지 않다면 다른 단말장치들의 서비스 요청에 바로 응할 수 없게 된다. 따라서 서버에 저장되는 파일들을 CPU 사용률을 줄일 수 있는 해상도의 파일들로 저장하여 CPU 가용률을 높인다면 보다 많은 단말장치의 요청을 허용할 수 있을 것이다. 본 논문에서는 한정된 저장 용량을 가진 VOD 서버가 단말장치의 서비스 요청들을 최대한 허용하기 위해 저장해야 할 각 비디오의 버전들을 분기한정 기법을 이용하여 찾는 알고리즘을 제시한다.

In VOD(Video-on-Demand) system, the real-time interactive service is one of the most important factor to determine the degree of QoS(Quality of Service). In this paper, we propose the head-end system consisted of switching agent and head-end node, which needs to receive the only video stream for multiple users which have requested the same video, to serve the unlimited interactive service which has no service delay and block. The unlimited VCR services can be served by storing the video stream with buffer at client and head-end node. And the proposed algorithm presents the method to enhance the efficiency by buffer, offer the true interactive VOD services to users because all of service requested by clients are processed immediately. In this paper, we implemented the VOD system which has the VCR functions without service delay and block. Simulation results indicate that the proposed algorithm has better performance in the number of service request and time interval.

VOD(Video On Demand) 서비스는 통 방 융합 환경에서의 킬러서비스로, 지상파 방송사에서는 인터넷을 통해 '다시 보기', 'TV VOD' 등의 서비스를 제공하고 있다. 이러한 기존의 방송 VOD 서비스는 콘텐트를 실제 재생하기 전에는 사용자가 원하는 장면을 찾기가 쉽지 않으며, 또한 콘텐트를 실제 재생하더라도 대사 내용이 텍스트로 제공되지 않으므로 청각 장애자의 경우 내용을 파악하기가 어렵다. 본 논문에서는 이와 같은 기존의 방송 VOD 서비스의 단점을 보완하기 위해 디지털 방송 프로그램으로부터 자막 데이터를 추출하고 이를 기반으로 방송 콘텐트의 구간 정보를 생성하기 위한 연구 내용과 이를 적용하여 웹사이트를 통해 제공되고 있는 '주요장면 보기' 서비스의 실 구축 사례를 소개한다.

This paper proposes and implements consistency algorithm that is serviced streaming data efficiently in VOD system. The media data is loaded into each node by Round Robin method. The barrier mechanism is changed into the minimum data factor(SH, GOP) of media data in this paper. In addition in order to fast media data service, the additional features are implemented in the consistency algorithm. Additional feature of the consistency algorithm is added. First, time synchronization algorithm is added the suggested consistency algorithm. Second, the prepaging mechanism supports efficient buffering service. I experimented the suggested consistency algorithm two DSM systems. The performance is good due to the last barrier algorithm.

Intensive studies have been made in the area of N-VOD server Multimedia files in the N-VOD sever are characterized with the large volume of data, the requirements of synchronization and real-time playback of streams. The basic goal of the study is to find an efficient mechanism to allow maximum number of users under the limited resources such as Buffer size and disk bandwidth. we propose a efficient VCR-LIKE operations and buffer, disk scheduling policy for multimedia services with management of VOD sever resources. Simulation results show that the rate of buffer usage and service time of proposed scheme are about 18% performance improved than that of traditional methods. This implies that our method can allow much more users for given resources.

서비스의 다양화와 방송과 통신의 통합화로 인해 단방향 CATV에서 양방향 CATV의 뉴미디어 시대로 접어들고 있다. 본 고에서는 광 CATV 시스템인 SWAN(Sociocultural Wellbeing Advanced Network)에 VOD 서비스를 제공하기 위하여 미국 VDT(Video Dial Tone)의 수요예측을 통한 가입자망의 구성 종류, 이들 시스템의 초기 설치 비용을 참고로 하여 모델 도입에 경제성을 제고하였다. VOD 서비스를 도입함으로써 중심국과 분배센터간 전송 채널의 용량이 증가하여 전송 효율이 떨어져 서비스 블로킹 현상을 초래하게 된다. 이러한 전송효율의 저하를 방지하기 위한 방안을 제시한 VOD서비스용 광 CATV 시스템의 모델을 정립하였다.
