Analysis characteristics of officers' watch-keeping for efficient navigation bridge layout of a fisheries training vessel (효율적인 어업실습선의 선교 layout을 위한 당직항해사의 업무특성 분석)

  • This study analyzed characteristics of officers' watch-keeping during fishing operation at the fisheries training ship KAYA (GT: 1,737 tons, Pukyong National University). It observed fishing works of three officers in wheel house of KAYA. The observations were carried out at the fishing ground 45 miles away from east of Jeju from 7 to 8 January 2010. The works and movements of the officers were recorded with three common video cameras and a 4-channel MPEG-4 Triplex DVR. Recorded data of the working circulation was analyzed by using the post-processing method. As a result of the traffic lines, the average (${\pm}S.D$) of working hour (min) and moving frequency (times), distance (m) and speed (m/min) during setting the net was 11.8 (0.9), 43.7 (8.1), 133.9 (35.8) and 10.5 (0.6), respectively. During trawling the net, it was 100, 241 (39.8), 615.7 (194.6) and 5.2 (1.6), respectively. During hauling the net, it was 17.6 (1.4), 41.0 (7.2), 196.9 (37.6) and 10.7 (0.8), respectively. In addition, it has a different tendency of the instrument usage frequency by the fishing works. During setting, the usage priority was CCTV, ECDIS, RPM and pitch controller, net monitor, GPS plotter, chart room, X-band radar, fish finder and public addressor. During trawling, it was CCTV, ECDIS, fish finder, X-band radar, net monitor, chart room, GPS plotter, RPM and pitch controller, auto pilot and steering, interphone, wind speed and direction indicator, No.1. VHF, navigation light control panel and public addressor. During hauling, it was CCTV, RPM and pitch controller, GPS plotter, public addressor, chart room, net monitor, X-band radar, auto pilot and steering and fish finder.

  • Communication, Ocean and Meteorological Satellite (COMS) was launched in 2010 with three payloads that include Ka-band communication payload developed by Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning (MSIP) and Electronics and Telecommunications Research Institute (ETRI). This study introduces a real-time remote vessel monitoring system built in the Socheongcho Ocean Research Station using the Ka-band communication satellite. The system is composed of three steps; real-time data collection, transmission, and processing/visualization. We describe hardware (H/W) and software systems (S/W) installed to perform each step and the whole procedure that made the raw data become vessel information for a real-time ocean surveillance. In addition, we address functional requirements of H/W and S/W and the important considerations for successful operation of the system. The system is now successfully providing, in near real-time, ship information over a VHF range using AIS data collected in the station. The system is expected to support a rapid and effective surveillance over a huge oceanic area. We hope that the concept of the system can be fully used for real-time maritime surveillance using communication satellite in future.

A Simulation Investigation on the Spurious Emission Reduction of the Automotive DC-DC Converter (자동차용 DC-DC 컨버터의 전자파 방사 감소 방법에 대한 시뮬레이션 연구)

  • In this study, a simulation investigation was conducted on the method of reducing switching noise and spurious emission among design methods for step-down DC-DC converter modules for automotive. A typical 4-layer converter circuit using a PMIC(Power Management Integrated Circuit) chip was presented, and the simulation results of conductive emissions at two input terminals (+, -) and the point between the input filter and the PMIC was performed in the 1.0~5.0MHz band and the 100MHz band. The results for the conducted and radiated emissions in the HF(3~30MHz) and VHF(30-300MHz) bands were presented. It showed an improvement of about 10dB over the bands by routing the output terminal placed on the 3 or 4-layer in the opposite direction to the input terminal. The result of this study is expected to be useful in the design of the DC-DC converter modules in the future because it gives a better improvement compared to the existing methods.

  • This paper is a study on the high power amplifier to fulfill standards of the MOPS. VDR's frequency band is 117.975~137MHz, and CSMA(Carrier Sense Multiple Access), D8PSK(Differential Eight Phase Shift Keyed), 25KHz's channel bandwidth use. It also stated in DO-281A MOPS output power, symbol constellation error, spurious emissions, adjacent channel power must be met. We designed and measured the performance. The 38dB of the IM3 satisfies the MOPS standard.

It has to be developed SOTDMA(Self-Organized Time Division Multiple Access) Algorithm which is important on wireless communication method for the AIS because It is based on ITU(International Telecommunication Union) M.1371-1 of the international standard therefore, we need to develop a performance evaluation simulator efficiently to develop and analyze SOTDMA Algorithm. this paper shows the method of designing it. Real ships access The VHF maritime mobile band but in this performance evaluation simulator several ship objects access the shared memory. Real ships are designed as the object and the wireless communication channel is designed as the shared memory. The ships apply for real virtual data which got from assistance hardware and The SOTDMA Algorithm driving state verifies the performance evaluation simulator by IEC(International Electrotechnical commission) 61993-2. After verifying results the performance evaluation simulator is correctly satisfied with IEC 61993-2. So we expect that it helps not only the AIS technology developed but also verify new SOTDMA Algorithm

  • It designs the general description of 8-VSB DTV transmission system will be installed and operated in future on the basis of NTSC TV transmission system in operation now. First of all, it investigates a condition that can maintain optimum received field in case of ground wave broadcasting with analog NTSC and digital 8-VSB DTV. Also it calculates critical value of minimum field strength fur receiving by using field strength calculation method of Longley-Rice. The 8-VSB DTV transmission sets its goal in transmission of data with 19.39Mbps at high speed in order to be available of HDTV in the band of NTSC 6MHz. Accordingly, the optimum of field strength between transmission and receiving points most of all is important problem. So,8-VSB DTV transmission should be enlarged or effective compared with NTSC service coverage. This study is to calculate the transmission power necessary in switching from NTSC VHF to DTV UHF and from NTSC UHF to DTV UHF for maintaining service coverage that NTSC is equal to 8-VSB DTV as a result of calculation.

  • A universal shipborne automatic identification system(AIS) uses self-organised time division multiple access(SOTDMA). The performance evaluation system of the SOTDMA algorithm for AIS is needed to implement it efficiently. This paper shows the method of designing it. 2D Image Construction from Low Resolution Response of a New Non-invasive Measurement for Medical Application

  • This paper presents an application of digital signal processing to data acquired by the radio imaging method (RIM) that was adopted to measure moisture distribution inside the human body. RIM was originally developed for the mining industry; we are applying the method to a biomedical measurement because of its simplicity, economy, and safety. When a two-dimensional image was constructed from the measured data, the method provided insufficient resolution because the wavelength of the measurement medium, a weak electromagnetic wave in a VHF band, was longer than human tissues. We built and measured a phantom, a model simulating the human body, consisting of two water tanks representing large internal organs. A digital equalizer was applied to the measured values as a weight function, and images were reconstructed that corresponded to the original shape of the two water tanks. As a result, a two-dimensional image containing two individual peaks corresponding to the original two small water tanks was constructed. The result suggests the method was applicable to biomedical measurement by the assistance of digital signal processing. This technique may be applicable to home-based medical care and other situations in which safety, simplicity, and economy are important.

  • In this paper we have proposed a new architecture of DQ-IRM(Double-Quadrature Image Rejection Mixer) for image rejection in the low-IF receiver. It consist of a frequency-tunable RF PPF(Poly Phase Filter) and the quadrature mixers. The conventional DQ-IRM generates the quadrature RF signals for the RF wide band at once. But the proposed DQ-IRM with the frequency-tuable RF PPF generates the quadrature RF signals for the narrow band of 2~3 channels bandwidth, which is partitioned from the RF wide band. We designed the CMOS RF tuner for T-DMB(Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) with the proposed 3rd DQ-IRM using a 0.18um CMOS technology and verified the performances of the designed receiver such as the image rejection ratio, the noise figure and the power consumption. The overall NF of the RF tuner is about 1.26 dB and the image reject ratio is about 51 dB. The power consumption is 55.8 mW at 1.8 V supply voltage. The chip area is $3.0{\times}2.5mm^2$.
