일본 냉동새우 선물시장의 가격발견기능에 관한 연구 (A Study on Price Discovery Function of Japan's Frozen Shrimp Future Market)

  • Japan's frozen shrimp future market is the only fisheries future commodity market in the world. This empirical study examines the lead and lag relationship between Japan frozen shrimp spot and future markets using the daily prices from August 1, 2002 to December 31, 2005. Frozen shrimp future contract is listed on Japan Kansai Commodities Exchange. Japan imports approximately 250,000 tons of frozen shrimp annually, of which just under 70,000 tons, nearly 30%, are black tiger shrimp. Approximately 90% of black tiger shrimp are caught in Indonesia, India, Thailand and Vietnam, and the two largest consumers of these shrimp are Japan and the U.S.A. Kansai Commodities Exchange adopts the India black tiger shrimp as standard future commodity. We use unit root test, Johansen cointegration test, Granger causality test, Vector autoregressive analysis and Impulse response analysis. However, considering the long - term relationships between the level variables of frozen shrimp spot and futures, we introduced Vector Error Correction Model. We find that the price change of frozen shrimp futures with next 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 month maturity have a strong predictive power to the change of frozen shrimp spot and the change of frozen shrimp spot also have a predictive power to the change of frozen shrimp with next 1, 2, 3 month maturity. But, the explanatory power of the frozen shrimp futures is relatively greater than that of frozen shrimp spot.

공적분·벡터오차수정모형을 활용한 벙커유 가격의 장기균형 수렴에 관한 실증분석 (An Empirical Analysis on the Long-term Balance of Bunker Oil Prices Using the Co-integration Model and Vector Error Correction Model)

  • This study performs a factor analysis that affects the bunker oil price using the Co-integration model and Vector Error Correction Model (VECM). For this purpose, we use data from Clarkson and the analysis results show 17.6% decrease in bunker oil price when the amount of crude oil production increases at 1.0%, 10.3% increase in bunker oil price when the seaborne trade volume increases at 1.0%, 1.0% decrease in bunker oil price when total volume of vessels increases at 1.0%, and 0.003% increase in bunker oil price when 1.0% increase in world GDP, respectively. This study is meaningful in that this study estimates the speed of convergence to long-term equilibrium and identifies the price adjust mechanism which naturally exists in bunker oil market. And it is expected that the future study can provide statistically more meaningful econometric results if it can obtain data during more long-periods and use more various kinds of explanatory variables.

건설경기 변동이 규모별 건설기업 부실화에 미치는 영향 분석 (Impact of Fluctuations in Construction Business on Insolvency of Construction Company by Size)

  • 본 논문에서는 건설경기가 규모별 건설업체 부실화에 미치는 영향을 벡터오차수정모형(VECM : Vector Error Correction Model)을 통해 분석하는 것을 목적으로 한다. 본 논문에서는 먼저 KMV(Kealhofer, McQuown and Vasicek) 모형을 기반으로 산출하는 예상부도확률을 건설업체 부실화를 나타내는 대리변수로 정의하였다. 본 논문에서는 규모별로 예상부도확률을 측정하기 위해서 건설업체 상장기업 중 30개 업체를 선정하여 규모별로 상위 15개와 하위 15개로 구분하였다. 건설경기 변화를 대리하는 변수로 주거용, 비주거용, 토목용 건설수주액을 활용하였다. 각 변수들의 시계열 데이터는 한국상장회사협의회의 TS2000과 통계청 자료를 통해 확보하였다. 분석기간은 2001년 2분기부터 2015년 4분기까지로 설정하였다. 먼저 규모별 건설업체의 예상부도확률을 산출한 결과, 일반적으로 알려진 바와 같이 대형 건설업체가 상대적으로 규모가 작은 건설업체보다 부실화 정도가 낮은 것으로 확인되었다. 하지만 벡터오차수정모형을 기반으로 한 충격반응분석 결과 대규모 건설업체가 경기 변동에 더욱 민감하게 반응하며, 특히 대규모 건설업체 경영상태 변화에 주거용 건설시장 변화가 주요 요인인 것을 확인할 수 있었다.

컨테이너 운임에 미치는 영향요인 분석 (Analysis of Factors Affecting on the Freight Rate of Container Carriers)

  • 국가 물류 인프라인 컨테이너 해운에 대한 합리적 투자 및 정책 결정을 하기 위해서는 컨테이너 해상운임의 결정요인에 대한 이해가 요구된다. 본 연구는 벡터오차수정모형(Vector Error Correction Model; VECM)을 사용하여 컨테이너 운임에 영향을 미치는 요인별 영향력을 추정하였다. 이를 위해 영국 클락슨이 공표하는 데이터를 사용하였으며, 분석결과 물동량 1.0% 증가 시 운임 4.2% 증가, 선복량 1.0% 증가 시 운임 4.0% 감소, 벙커유 가격 1.0% 증가 시 운임 0.07% 증가, Libor 1.0% 증가 시 운임은 0.04% 증가하는 것으로 추정되었다. 또한 현 운임이 장기균형 시점의 운임보다 1.0% 높을 경우 운임은 3.2% 차기에 감소하며, 장기균형 운임보다 1.0% 적을 경우 0.12% 차기에 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 그러나 불황기 영향력은 통계적 유의성이 낮았으며, 이는 호황기에는 운임감소 압력이 뚜렷하나 불황기에는 운임상승 압력이 없는 것으로 이해된다. 이 같은 분석 결과는 향후 컨테이너 해운시장의 전망에 과학적인 접근법의 활용에 기여할 것으로 기대된다.

자금조달환경과 건설업체 경영상태 간의 관계성 분석 연구 (A Relation between Financing Conditions and Business Operation of a Construction Company)

  • A construction project is very costly and takes a long time to make investment and yield profit. For this reason, financial institutions are cautious about financing construction projects. Meanwhile, a construction company needs financing from financial institutions to cover a large expense of a construction project. Thus, there is likely to be a close correlation between financing conditions and business operation of a construction company. To examine the relationship, variables were identified that are related to insolvency of a construction company and changes in financing conditions. The analysis period is between the second quarter of 2001 and the fourth quarter of 2010. Data was retrieved from TS2000 established by Korea Listed Companies Association (KLCA), Statistics Office, and Construction Economy Research Institute of Korea (CERIK). In terms of methodology, VECM (Vector Error Correction Model) was used to analyze dynamic relationship between changes in financing conditions and insolvency of a construction company based on the identified variables. The hypothesis was that changes in financing conditions would significantly affect business of a construction company, but, the analysis did not find a close relation between the two factors. However, it was shown that poor business of a construction company affects financing conditions adversely.

Impact of Exchange Rate Shocks, Inward FDI and Import on Export Performance: A Cointegration Analysis

  • The study aims to examine the effects of inward every presence of foreign investment, import, and real exchange rate shocks on export performance in Vietnam. This study employs a time-series sample dataset in the period of 2009 - 2018. All data are collected from the General Statistics Office of Ministry of Planning and Investment in Vietnam, World Development Indicator and Ministry of Finance, State Bank of Vietnam. This study employs the Augmented Dickey-Fuller test and the vector error correction model with the analysis of cointegration. The results demonstrate that a higher value of import significantly accelerates export performance in the short run, but insignificantly generates in the long run. When the volume of registered foreign investment goes up, the export performance will predominantly decrease in the both short run and long run. Historically, countries worldwide are more likely to devaluate their currencies in order to support export performance. According to the study, the exchange rate volatility has an effect on the external trade in the long run but no effect in the short run. Finally, Vietnam's export performance converges on its long-run equilibrium by roughly 6.3% with the speed adjustment via a combination of import, every presence of foreign investment, and real exchange rate fluctuations.

The Dynamics of Economic Growth in Underdeveloped Regions: A Case Study in Indonesia

  • This study aims to determine the response of regional economic growth to the financial performance of regional economies in regard to the liquidity conditions, saving-investment gaps, trade openness, inflation, as well as the national economic growth. The basic logic theory of research uses the principles of open economics and financial intermediary systems. The data used in this study are secondary data, and the form of data is a quarterly time series for the period from 2008 to 2019. The data were obtained from various publications, such as the Central Statistics Agency (CSA), Regional Financial Economics Statistics (RFES), Indonesian Banking Statistics (IBS), and the Financial Services Authority (FSA). Data processing was done through VAR/VECM analysis; short-term and long-term equilibrium analyses were carried out. The results of the analysis illustrate that regional economic growth and the conditions of liquidity, saving-investment gaps, trade openness, inflation, and national economic growth are related and lead to significant impact variations in the provinces of Papua and West Papua. In conclusion, the findings of this research support the leading supply hypothesis and reformulate the strategy and policy of economic development, bearing in mind that there are still many underdeveloped districts in these two provinces.

Bank Liquidity and Economic Development in Underdeveloped Regions: An Empirical Study in Indonesia

  • This study aims to determine the relation between the real sector and the financial sector in underdeveloped areas in Nusa Tenggara, Indonesia. To facilitate understanding of these linkages, researchers use the logic of credit channel mechanism of monetary policy, financial intermediation, as well as supply leading and demand following theories. The research variables include economic growth, inflation, liquidity, and NPL at the provincial level, with a data sample from 2008 to 2019. This research uses VAR/VECM as the analysis tools. The findings of the long-term analysis in East Nusa Tenggara show there is a phenomenon of cost-push inflation as well as the negative relation between inflation and economic growth. The impact of liquidity on inflation is positive, while the impact of economic growth on inflation is negative. Meanwhile, in West Nusa Tenggara, the impact of economic growth on inflation is positive. On the other hand, the impact of liquidity and NPL on inflation and economic growth is negative. In conclusion, generally, the economy in West Nusa Tenggara is better than the East Nusa Tenggara. The key to improving the economy of Nusa Tenggara is by improving its liquidity. This can be done by increasing the volume of public savings to increase bank credit capacity.

글로벌 회사채 스프레드에 대한 경기요인 영향력 분석: 기업 신용스프레드에 대한 경기사이클의 설명력 추정을 중심으로 (A Study on the Impact of Business Cycle on Corporate Credit Spreads)

  • Purpose - This paper investigates how business cycle impacts on corporate credit spreads since global financial crisis. Furthermore, it tests how the impact changes by the phase of the cycle. Design/methodology/approach - This study collected dataset from Barclays Global Aggregate Bond Index through the Bloomberg. It conducted multi-regression analysis by projecting business cycle using Hodrick-Prescott filtering and various cyclical variables, while ran dynamic analysis of 5-variable Vector Error Correction Model to confirm the robustness of the test. Findings - First, it proves to be statistically significant that corporate credit spreads have moved countercyclicaly since the crisis. Second, It indicates that the corporate credit spread's countercyclicality to the macroeconomic changes works symmetrically by the phase of the cycle. Third, the VECM supports that business cycle's impact on the spreads maintains more sustainably than other explanatory variable does in the model. Research implications or Originality - It becomes more appealing to accurately measure the real economic impact on corporate credit spreads as the interaction between credit and business cycle deepens. The economic impact on the spreads works symmetrically by boom and bust, which implies that the market stress could impact as another negative driver during the bust. Finally, the business cycle's sustainable impact on the spreads supports the fact that the economic recovery is the key driver for the resilience of credit cycle.

지역경제 성장에 따른 지역 내부의 경제적 격차 추정에 관한 연구 (The Impact of Regional Economic Growth on Intraregional Disparities in Korea)

  • 이 연구의 목적은 지역경제 성장과 지역 내 격차 간 관계를 파악하는 것이다. 우리나라 16개 광역지자체, 수도권, 동남권을 공간적 범위로 하였으며 2005년부터 2016년까지를 시간적 범위로 하였다. 지역경제 성장과 지역 내 격차는 지역내총생산 자료를 이용하였다. 각 공간단위별 패널자료를 구축한 다음 자료의 안정성을 확인하기 위해 패널단위근 검정과 패널공적분 검정을 시행하였으며, 지역경제 성장과 지역 내 격차 간 관계는 DOLS 방법을 이용하였으며, 인과성 검증을 위해서 VECM모형과 그랜져인과관계 검정을 시행하였다. 16개 광역지자체 단위를 대상으로 분석한 결과 지역경제 성장이 진행됨에 따라 지역 내부 격차는 증가하는 것으로 나타났다. 지역 내 총생산이 1% 증가할 때 지역 내부 격차는 1.258% 증가하였으며, 단기 및 장기적 인과관계가 있는 것으로 나타났다. 수도권과 동남권은 모두 지역경제 성장과 지역 내부 격차 증감이 상호 간 인관관계성이 있었으나, 수도권은 격차가 증가하는 양상을 보였으며 동남권은 감소하는 양상으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 결과는 지역 내 격차가 전국적으로 증가하고 있으나 수도권과 비수도권을 대표하는 광역경제권인 동남권의 양상은 서로 다름을 보여주었으며 서로 상이한 성장단계에 있음을 확인하였다는데 의의가 있다.
