  • The differences in pharmacokinetic behavior and tissue distribution of verapamil and its enantiomers were investigated in rats. In high-performance liquid chromatographic method, an achiral ODS column (150 mm $\times$ 4.6 mm i.d.) with the mobile phase consisting of methanol-water (73:30, v/v) was used for the determination of the concentration for racemic verapamil, and a Chiralcel OJ column (250 mm$\times$4.6 mm i.d.) with the mixture of n-haxane-ethanol-triethylamine (85:15:0.2, v/v/v) as mobile phase was used to determine the concentrations of verapamil enantiomers. A fluorescence detector in the analytical system was set at excitation and emission wavelengths of 275 nm and 315 nm. The differences between enantiomers were apparent in the pharmacokinetics in rats. The area under the concentration-time curve (AUC) of S-(-) verapamil was higher than that of R-(+) verapamil. The half-distribution time ($T_{1/2(\alpha)}$) of S-(-) verapamil which distributing to tissue from blood was shorter than that of R-(+) verapamil, but the elimination half-time ($T_{1/2(\beta)}$) was longer in rat following oral administration of racemic verapamil. At 1.3 h after oral administration of racemic verapamil, however, there were no significant differences between enantiomers for the distributions in major tissues such as heart, cerebrum, cerebellum, liver, spleen and kidney.

  • We investigated electro-optic and ionic properties of twisted nematic cells by using control of chiral pitch. These properties are observed in practical experiment and simulations. C-V and V-T curve characteristics were obtained from three types of cells with d/p. It is shown that d/p ratio of short cells exhibit faster response time improved by 20% than normal cell. Also, inter-gray response time is improved each rise time and decay time. And, the increase of saturation voltage is happened because of the small twist angel change from initial state at high voltage near 5V. To compensate for longer black level tail, gamma curve index was varied from g = 2.2 to g = 2.7 in module status. Additionally, adding chiral dopant into TN cells improved ionic characteristics such as increasing VHR, Ion density and DC Hysteresis were decreased..

  • The notion of rectifying curve in the Euclidean space is introduced by Chen as a curve whose position vector always lies in its rectifying plane spanned by the tangent and the binormal vector field t and $n_2$ of the curve, [1]. In this study, we have obtained some characterizations of semi-real spatial quaternionic rectifying curves in $\mathbb{R}^3_1$. Moreover, by the aid of these characterizations, we have investigated semi real quaternionic rectifying curves in semi-quaternionic space $\mathbb{Q}_v$.

  • This work reports the simple fabrication of the single cell gap transflective liquid crystal display (LCD) using wire grid polarizer. The nano sized wire grid polarizer was patterned on common electrode itself, on the reflective part of FFS (Fringe field switching) mode whereas the common electrode was unpatterned at transmissive part. However, this structure didn't show single gamma curve, so we further improved the device by patterning the common electrode at transmissive part. As a result, V-T curve of proposed structure shows single gamma curve. Such a device structure is free from in-cell retarder, compensation film and reflector and furthermore it is very thin and easy to fabricate.

  • Epitaxial aluminum nitride films on 6H-SiC (0001) were fabricated using reactive RF magnetron sputtering and post-deposition rapid thermal annealing. The electrical properties of AIN films depending on film thickness and measurement temperature have been observed. Full width at half maximum of AIN (0002) was $0.1204^{\circ}$ (about 430 arcsec) X-ray rocking curve results. The equivalent oxide thickness (EOT) of AIN film was estimated as about 10 nm and the leakage current density was within the order of $10^{-8} 4/cm^2$. The dielectric constant of AIN film estimated from the accumulation region of C-V curve measured at $300^{\circ}C$ was 8.3. The dynamic dielectric constant was obtained as 5.1 from J vs. 1/T plots at the temperature ranging from R.T. to $300^{\circ}C$ From above, estimation temperature dependance of the electrical properties of Al/AIN/SiC MIS devices was affirmed and useful data compilation for the reliabilities of SiC MIS is expected.

  • We investigated the effects of chronic administration of different extracts of ginger rhizome [pet ether extract (PE); toluene fraction (TF) of pet ether extract] on anxiety models: the elevated T-maze (ETM) (for inhibitory avoidance and escape measurements) and the open field test. Ondansetron (1 mg/kg), FE (10, 30 &100 mg/kg) and TF (10 & 30 mg/kg) were administered orally for 15 days. On the $14^{th}$ day mice were previously exposed for 30 min to one of the open arms of the T-maze, 24 h before the test. On $15^{th}$ day mice had two exposures to the enclosed and open arm of the ETM followed by exposure to the open field apparatus. The number of line crossings in the apparatus was used to assess locomotor changes. Cumulative Concentration Response Curve of 5-HT was plotted using rat fundus which were pretreated in a similar way. Treatment with Ondansetron (1 mg/kg), PE (100 mg/kg), TF (10 mg/kg) and TF (30 mg/kg) significantly (P<0.05) impaired inhibitory avoidance performance but did not impair escape latency. Concentration response curve of 5-HT was shifted towards the right with suppression of maxima in rats treated with PE and TF. The results suggest that PE and TF of Ginger rhizome exerts anxiolytic like behaviour in a specific subset of defensive behaviour, particularly those related to generalized anxiety disorder.

  • A quantum-chemical investigation on the conformations and electronic properties of trans(diphenyl-diheterocyclic) ethenes(t-PHEs) as building block for fully $\pi$-conjuated polymer are performed in order to display the effects of heterocyclic ring substitution. Structures for the molecules, t-PHEs were fully optimized by using semiempirical AM1, PM3 methods, and ab initio HF methods, with 6-31G basic set. The potential energy curves with respect to the change of single are obtained by using ab initio HF/6-31G basic set. The curves are not similar shapes in the molecules with respect to heterocyclic rings. It is shown that the steric repulsion interactions between phenyl ring and heterocyclic ring are subjected to different type with the respect to each heterocyclic ring. Electronic properties of the molecules were molecules were obtained by applying the optimized structures and selected geometries to the extended Huckel method. To investigate the change of HOMO-LUMO gap with respedt to the torsion angle, we select the optimized structures. By using the results, the dependency of conjugation for the energy gaps is analyzed. For t-PHE the energy gap increase up to 0.52 eV compared with its planar structure. In the cases of t-PHE and t-PHE, the energy gap increase by 1.29 and 1.15 eV, respectively, compared with its planar structure.

  • Electro-optical (EO) performances for the twisted-nematic (TN)-liquid crystal display (LCD) photoaligned with linearly polarized UV exposure on the poly[4- (fluorocinnamate) phenylmaleimide](PFCPMI) surfaces using a new photodimerization method were investigated. For a new UVLPH (UV linearly polarized during heating) photodimerization method, the photopolymer layers were exposed by linearly polarized UV dichroic polarizer without a specific UV filter during heating at $150^{\circ}C$. The Voltage-transmittance (V-T) curve without backflow bounce in the photoaligned TN-LCD with UV exposure on the PFCPMI surface for 10 min using the UVLPH photodimerization method was observed. For response time measurement, the transmittance characteristics of the photoaligned TN-LCD using the UVLPH photodimerization method on the photopolymer surface was better than that of the photoaligned TN-LCD using the UVLP photodimerization method under a room temperature.

  • The present paper is focused on sorption concentration of silver (I) on some complex-forming ion exchangers in the initial thiocyanate form and subsequent determination of Ag(I) in the phase of anion exchanger AN-25 by diffuse reflectance spectroscopy. The sorption and kinetic characteristics of the sorbents were investigated. The apparent stability constants of thiocyanate silver complexes in the ion exchanger phase were calculated. The sorption-spectroscopic method is proposed for Ag(I) determination in aqueous solutions. The calibration curve is linear in the concentration range of 10-200 mg/L (sample volume is 10.0 mL) and the detection limit is 2 $\mu$g/mL. The presence of $Na^+,\;K^+,\;Mg^{2+}$ (macrocomponents) as well as of Ni (II), Co (II), Cu (II) do not hinder the determination of silver (I).

  • This paper presents the experimental results related to soil ionization and electrical breakdown in a concentric hemispherical electrode system under lightning impulse voltages. Dynamic voltage-current and impedance-time characteristics of soil ionization were measured and analyzed. Also the electrical breakdowns of the soil gap were investigated. The time-lag to the peak current corresponds to the soil ionization propagation. The time of ionization propagation in wet sand is found to decrease with increasing the impulse currents. A drastic decrease in ground resistance was observed during the impulse current spreading in sand. The electrical breakdown appears at the wave tail of impulse voltage and results in a wide scatter in V-t curves. The voltage-current curves have a fan-like shape attributed to ionization processes which result in increasing current and decreasing voltage.
