Objective signs are everywhere that the stationary energy storage market is growing up quickly. The use of distributed resources such as solar photovoltaics and electric vehicles are expanding at a rapid pace, creating technical challenges for the distribution system that will require energy storage and a new generation of software to address. This paper is intended for distribution utility managers and executives and makes the following points: ${\bullet}$ Utility-integrated (as opposed to merely grid-connected) energy storage projects represent a distinct, new wave of industry growth that is just getting underway and is required to manage distributed energy resources moving forward. ${\bullet}$ Utilities and the energy storage industry have important roles to lower risk in adopting this technology - thereby enabling this wave of growth. ${\circ}$ The industry must focus on engineering energy storage for adoption at scale - including the creation and support of software open standards -both to drive down costs and to limit technology and supplier risk for utilities. ${\circ}$ Utilities need to take a program-based, rather than a project- based, approach to this resource to best balance cost and risk as they procure and implement energy storage. By working together to drive down costs and manage risk, utilities and their suppliers can lay the energy storage foundation for a new, more digital distributed electricity system.

A methodology for on-line data reconciliation and optimization has been proposed to minimize the energy cost of a utility system. As industrial data tend to be corrupted by noise or gross error, fast and robust data reconciliation technique is essential for the on-line optimization of utility system. Thus, we propose the hierarchical decomposition approach that can be applicable to on-line data reconciliation and optimization. As this approach divides whole system into several subsystems and removes the nonlinearity of constraint systematically, it handles complexity of system easily and shows good performance in accuracy and computation speed. Through case studies, we prove that this methodology is a good candidate for on-line data reconciliation and optimization.

As the cost of photovoltaic(PV) generation systems continues to decrease, utility interactive systems are becoming more economically viable. Furthermore, increases in consumer awareness correspond to a willingness to pay a premium price for clean electrical energy generated using renewable energy resources. Especially, PV generation systems, in particular, is undergoing a rapid expansion-showing an industrial growth of approximately 40$\%$ per year in the worldwide, as PV cell and systems technology improve new markets become increasingly accessible. This has resulted in an increased demand for the simulation scheme and operational technologies of utility interactive PV devices and systems. The simulation schemes that can be applied to the utility interactive PV generation systems readily and cheaply under various conditions considering the sort of solar cell, the capacity of systems and the converter system as well are strongly expected and emphasized among researchers. So far, authors have been introducing the simulation method of PV generation systems with several papers. In this paper, authors introduce the simulation way of PV generation systems using EMTP type simulators; EMTP/ATP, EMTDC/PSCAD, RTDS, with each examples. And, by connecting the voltage amplifier to the RTDS a novel simulation method which is extremely close to the real condition of PV generation system is also introduced.

The smart grid, a new open platform, is a core application for facilitating a creative economy in the era of the Internet of Things (IoT). Advanced Metering Infrastructure (AMI) is one of the components of the smart grid and a two-way communications infrastructure between the main utility operator and customer. The smart meter records consumption of electrical energy and communicates that information back to the utility for monitoring and billing. This paper investigates the impact of a cybersecurity attack on the smart meter. We analyze the cost to the smart grid in the case of a smart meter attack by authorized users based on a high risk scenario from NESCOR. Our findings could be used by policy makers and utility operators to create investment decision-making models for smart grid security.

Recently, lack of power reserve margin was observed quite often. In this paper, we studied the method to secure power source for a short time, to cut the utility power peak load, and to reduce the users electricity bills. Emergency diesel generator of an office building is to be converted into a dual-fuel engine generator which is responsible for a portion of the peak load. Compared to the conventional diesel fuel generator, the proposed dual-fuel engine is able to reduce the generation power cost by dual-fuel combustion, and it also mitigates the building's utility power peak load by charging the building's peak load. If the dead resources (a group of emergency dual-fuel engine generators), as a Virtual Power Plant, are operating in peak time, we can significantly reduce future large power development costs. We investigated the current general purpose electricity bills as well as the records of the building electric power usage, and calculated diesel engine generator renovation costs, generation fuel costs, driving conditions, and savings in electricity bills. The proposed dual-fuel engine generation method reduces 18.1% of utility power peak load, and turned out to be highly attractive investment alternative which shows more than 27% of IRR, 76 million won of NPV, and 20~53 months of payback periods. The results of this study are expected to be useful to developing the policy & strategy of the energy department.

This paper describes the UIPV(Utility Interactived Photovoltaic) system which can improve the peak-cut effect by adding energy storage device of batteries to the power converter. The proposed system has three possible operation modes depending on relative condition of PV output, which can have the power shaping function covering the peak power for 3 hours. A new power circuit and application algorithm has been applied to UIPV system which is based on working PV system during 3-hour peak time. The energy relationship by the proposed system is analyzed theoretically and experimentally. Also the proposed system is evaluated at the viewpoint of cost and total spacing, which enables the proposed UIPV system to have the reduction of the peak power demand and hence to improve.

Conventional eco-design has been implemented based only on the environmental aspects of a product. Key components of a product identified from the analysis of the environmental aspects have been the target for improvement in the conventional eco-design. The use of eco-design index (EDI) considering both the environmental and economic aspects, and utility value (UV) of a product can be envisaged as an alternative way of implementing and assessing the eco-design. The objective of this study was to propose the logic of the EDI and apply it to the components for performing printing function of the multi-function printer. The EDI was formulated by quantifying the UV, life cycle environmental impact (LCE) and life cycle cost (LCC) of the components of a product, here components of the printer. Of the eight components investigated, roller was identified as the best performing consumable in both the environmental and economic aspects. However, its UV was the lowest among the eight. The EDI of the roller was mere $4^{th}$ in ranking out of the eight. Transfer belt ranked $8^{th}$ and $5^{th}$ in the environmental and economic aspects, respectively, while $2^{nd}$ in the utility value with its EDI ranked $3^{rd}$. This indicates that not only the environmental aspects but also economic and utility value aspects should be considered when identifying the key components for improvement in the eco-design.
Cycle length of domestic nuclear power plants is determined by the demand-supply plan of utility company. The target cycle length is achieved by adjusting the number of feed fuel assembly and fuel enrichment. Traditionally, utility company first select the number of feed fuel assembly and then find out the fuel enrichment to achieve the special cycle length. But it is difficult to find out if this method is most economical than any other combinations of the enrichment and batch size satisfying the same cycle length. In this paper, core depletion calculation is performed to find out the optimum combination of the enrichment and batch size for given target cycle length in terms of fuel cycle cost using commercial core design code; CASMO/MASTER code. To minimize the uncertainty resulting from transition core analysis, levelized fuel cycle cost analysis was applied to the equilibrium cycle core in order to determine the optimum combination. The sensitivity study of discount rate was also carried out to analyze the levelized fuel cycle cost applicable to countries with different discount rates. From the levelized fuel cycle cost analysis results, the combination with smaller batch size and higher fuel enrichment becomes more economical as the discount rate becomes lower. On the other hand, the combination with higher batch size and lower fuel enrichment becomes more economical as the discount rate becomes higher.

This study analyzes the distributor's inventory model in a two-stage supply chain consisting of the supplier, the distributor and the end customer. The supplier will allow a credit period before the distributor settles the account with him in order to stimulate the demand for the product he produces. It is also assumed that the distributor pays the shipping cost for the order and hence, the distributor's ordering cost consists of a fixed ordering cost and the shipping cost that depend on the order quantity. The availability of the delay in payments from the supplier enables discount of the distributor's selling price from a wider range of the price option in anticipation of increased customer's demand. As a result, the availability of a credit transaction leads to an increase in inventory levels. On the other hand, in the case of deteriorating products in which the utility of the product perish over time, the deterioration rate with time plays a role in reducing inventory levels. In this regard, we analyze the effect of the length of the credit period and the degree of product deterioration on the distributor's inventory level. For the analysis, we formulate the distributor's annual net profit and analyze the effect of the length of credit period and deterioration rate of the product on inventory policy numerically.
This paper analyzes cost tradeoffs between memory usage and computation for window-based operators in data stream environments. It identifies generic operator network constructs, and sets up a cost model for the estimation of the expected memory reduction and the computation overheads when window memory relocations are applied to each operator network construct. This cost model helps to identify the utility of window memory relocations. It also helps to apply window memory relocation to improve a query execution plan to save memory usage. The proposed approach contributes to expand the scope of query processing and optimization in data stream environments. It also provides a basis to develop a cost estimation model for the query optimization using window memory relocations.
