Effective Pre-rating Method Based on Users' Dichotomous Preferences and Average Ratings Fusion for Recommender Systems

  • With an increase in the scale of recommender systems, users' rating data tend to be extremely sparse. Some methods have been utilized to alleviate this problem; nevertheless, it has not been satisfactorily solved yet. Therefore, we propose an effective pre-rating method based on users' dichotomous preferences and average ratings fusion. First, based on a user-item ratings matrix, a new user-item preference matrix was constructed to analyze and model user preferences. The items were then divided into two categories based on a parameterized dynamic threshold. The missing ratings for items that the user was not interested in were directly filled with the lowest user rating; otherwise, fusion ratings were utilized to fill the missing ratings. Further, an optimized parameter λ was introduced to adjust their weights. Finally, we verified our method on a standard dataset. The experimental results show that our method can effectively reduce the prediction error and improve the recommendation quality. As for its application, our method is effective, but not complicated.

Recommendation of tourist attractions based on Preferences using big data

  • This paper proposes a tourist destination recommendation application that combines a chatbot and a recommendation system. The data to be entered into the chatbot was through big data on social media. Through TEXTOM, a total of 22,701 data were collected over a one-year period from January 2022 to January 2023. Non-terms that interfere with analysis were removed through the data purification process. Using refined data, network visualization and CONCOR analysis were used to identify the information users want to obtain about travel to Jeju Island, and categories for each cluster were organized. The content was intuitively organized so that even those who approached it for the first time could easily use it, reducing the difficulty of operating the application. In this paper, users can select their own preferences and receive information. In addition, a tool called a chatbot allows users to focus more on the process of acquiring information by gaining a sense of reality while operating the application. This suggests an application that can reach the purpose of the curator by affecting the user's desire to visit tourist attractions.

  • In ubiquitous computing, shared environments are required to adapt to people intelligently. Based on information about user preferences, the shared environments should be adjusted so that all users in a group are satisfied as possible. Although many group recommender systems have been proposed to obtain this purpose, they only consider average and misery. However, a broad range of philosophical approaches suggest that high inequality reduces social agreeability, and consequently causes users' dissatisfactions. In this paper, we propose social welfare functions, which consider inequalities in users' preferences, as alternative aggregation functions to achieve a social agreeability. Using an example in a previous work[7], we demonstrate the effectiveness of proposed welfare functions as socially agreeable aggregate functions in group recommender systems.

Healing Function Evaluation of Color Samples from the Healthcare Environmental Color Index - A Cross-cultural Comparison Study on Korean and Romanian users

  • The present study is following a series of research investigations on design resources coming from collected data referring to users' awareness and preferences. The aim of this research is to test the Healthcare Environmental Color Index as a basis for practitioners in the field of healthcare design. An array of color samples selected from previous research, have been presented to the respondents via an online survey, in order to identify the preferences of the two groups on the relation between environmental color and health. As a result of the first experiment and through the comparison of processed data, the maximum percentage of respondents from each group is validating the relation between environmental color and health. For the second experiment we intend to highlight the patterns of color preferences for each group, and thus to test the color samples healing function. The compared data also showed a higher awareness of Koreans than Romanians on the potential of color applied to healing environment. Last but not least in the third experiment we show the top five color samples preferred by each group. It is significant that the comparison of the results validated once more some of our previous findings related to the healthcare environment, such as: the general preference for the green hue (associated to fatigue relax according to color psychology) and the blue hue (sedation release effect) but also the yellow hue - associated to bright energy. Three out of the top five preferred color samples have been identical to both groups while the other two samples have shown characteristic variations. These results show that similarities are strong and can be used in a glocal design strategy as an accessible tool for any practitioner. Based on the Healthcare Environmental Color Index and users' preferences analysis, a new design culture for healthcare can be established and developed.

습지 이용자 생태의식과 시설선호도 연구 - 우포늪을 대상으로 - (A Study on the Wetland User's Eco-consciousness and Preference of Amenities - Focused on Upo Marsh Users -)

  • The researcher noted the fact that wetland users are more and more diversified while people are more conscious of their ecological importance. Wetlands tend to be very sensitive in ecological terms, and therefore, they can hardly accommodate their users' needs indefinitely. With such basic perception in mind, the purpose of this study was to survey wetland users' eco-consciousness, determine their traits, analyze the corelation between their traits and preferences of wetland amenities, and thereby, provide the data useful to planning of an effective wetland management policy. To this end, the researcher sampled nation's largest wetland, Upo Marsh located in Changnyeong for a questionnaire survey. Wetland users' eco-consciousness was measured, using Dunlap's NEP (New Ecological Paradigm) approved by many researchers. Wetland users' preferences of the wetland amenities were measured, centered around 11 amenity types observed commonly at the domestic wetlands. As a result of the survey conducted in October, 2012, a total of 228 effective samples were acquired. Wetland users' eco-consciousness was higher than normal, scoring 3.45 on the 5-point scale consisting of 5 sub-scales. In particular, users were more conscious of 'the possibility of an eco-crisis,' while being less conscious of 'ejection of exemptionalism.' As a result of classifying the users into 3 sub-groups in reference to their eco-consciousness and analyzing their preferences of amenities comparatively, significant differences were found in all 3 sub-areas. In particular, the sub-group most eco-conscious tended to prefer the learning amenities, but the least eco-conscious sub-group tended to prefer the utilities. As a result of the post-hoc test, it was found that most and normal eco-conscious sub-groups were more or less homogeneous, while the least eco-conscious sub-group was significantly different from the former 2 sub-groups in terms of eco-consciousness. As the wetland users were found to be diversified in terms of their eco-consciousness, it is necessary to plan the wetland management policies in consideration of such differences. However, it is perceived that the wetland amenities need to be built to meet the more eco-conscious users.

고객의 암묵적 이상형을 반영하여 배우자 선택기준을 동적으로 조정하는 온라인 매칭 시스템: 의사결정나무의 활용을 중심으로 (A Matchmaking System Adjusting the Mate-Selection Criteria based on a User's Behaviors using the Decision Tree)

  • 본 연구는 고객이 명시적으로 기재한 배우자 선택기준을 고객의 행동에 기반한 암묵적 선호도를 활용하여 동적으로 조정하는 온라인 데이트 시스템을 제안한다. 최근 미혼남녀를 소개시키는 온라인 데이트시스템에 대한 사용이 증대되면서, 많은 온라인 데이트 서비스 업체들이 더욱 정확한 매칭 서비스를 제공하기 위하여 고객에게 직접 배우자 선정기준을 기재하도록 요구하고 있다. 그러나, 많은 고객들이 자신의 이상형을 명확히 밝히지 않거나, 상황에 따라서 이상형을 조정하기 때문에 고객의 배우자 선택기준을 정확히 파악하는데 어려움이 있다. 이에 본 연구는 고객이 명시적으로 기재한 이상형뿐만 아니라, 고객이 과거 상대 이성에게 보낸 메시지 기록을 분석하여 파악된 암묵적 이상형을 반영하여 매칭을 수행하는 온라인 데이트 시스템을 제안한다. 제안된 시스템은 고객의 행동 데이터가 일정 수 이상으로 축적되면, 이를 데이터마이닝의 의사결정나무 기법으로 분석하여 고객의 암묵적 이상형을 파악하였으며, 이를 동적으로 반영하여 배우자 선택기준을 조정한다. 제안된 매칭 시스템은 Decision Tree based Matchmaking System(DTMS)이라고 명명하였으며, 본 연구에서는 DTMS 시스템을 설계하고 사용자 인터페이스에 대한 프로토타입을 구현하였다.

  • 본 논문에서는 개인의 취향에 맞는 음악을 자동으로 추천해주는 음악 추천 시스템을 소개한다. 본 논문에서 소개하는 추천 시스템은 각 음악 사이의 유사도를 그래프로 저장하는 그래프 기반 협동적 여과 방식을 사용하여 사용자의 암시적 선호 정보를 바탕으로 빠른 추천을 할 수 있으며, 또한 사용자의 정적인 성향뿐 아니라 시간에 따라 달라지는 동적인 성향에 맞는 추천도 가능하도록 설계되었다. 추천 서버는 자바로 구현되었으며 독립된 서버로서 클라이언트와 정해진 프로토콜에 따라 통신하도록 구현되었다. 구현된 추천 서버와 실제 사용자들의 음악 다운로드 데이터를 이용하여 추천 데모 사이트를 구축하였으며, 실험을 통하여 추천 결과의 정확도를 측정하였다.

빅데이터 감성분석에 따른 공항 공공예술 디자인 요소 및 선호도 연구 (Research on Airport Public Art Design Elements and Preferences Based on Big Data Sentiment Analysis)

  • In the context of globalization, circulation between cities has become more frequent. The airport is no longer just a place for boarding, disembarking, and transportation, but a public place that serves as the communication function of the "aviation city". The intervention of public art in the airport space not only gives users a sense of space experience, but also becomes a unique carrier for city and country image shaping. The purpose of this paper is to study the emotional value brought by airport public art to users, and to investigate the correlation analysis of public art design elements and user preferences based on this premise. The research methods are machine learning method and SPSS 21.0. The user's emotional value is introduced in the big data evaluation, and the preference and inclination of airport users to various elements of public art are analyzed by questionnaire. Through the research conclusion, the preference and main contradiction of users in the airport for the four dimensions of public art design elements are obtained. Opinions and optimization methods to provide reference data and theoretical support for public art design.

Web OPAC 이용패턴과 MBTI 성격유형의 상관관계 (Correlation Between Web OPAC Use Patterns and MBTI Personality Types)

  • 본 연구의 목적은 Web OPAC시스템 이용자들의 성격유형과 그들의 탐색행위 및 인터페이스 선호도 간에는 어떤 상관관계가 있는지를 분석하는 것이다. 데이터 수집은 이용자들의 성격유형을 파악하기 위해서는 MBTI를 사용하였고, 이들의 Web OPAC시스템 탐색행위와 인터페이스 선호도를 측정하기 위해서는 총28개 요소들로 이루어진 자체개발한 온라인 설문지를 사용하였다. 이 실험에는 K대학교 재학생 48명이 자발적으로 참여하였고, 이들의 성격유형은 MBTI 4가지 선호지표인 외향성-내향성, 감각형-직관형, 사고형-감정형, 그리고 판단형-인식형으로 코딩 하였다. 수집된 데이터는 SPSS Windows Ver. 11.0을 사용하여 분석하였고, 상관 관계 분석을 위하여 Pearson의 상관계수(r)를 사용하였다. 데이터분석 결과 이용자들의 MBTI 선호지표와 9개 Web OPAC 탐색행위 및 인터페이스 선호도 요소들 간에 통계적으로 유의한 수준의 상관관계를 보였다.

다차원척도법에 의한 서울주민의 교통수단선호 분석 (Multidimensional Scaling of User Preferences for the Transportation Modes in Seoul.)

  • This study examined user preferences toward transportation modes in Seoul. Two multidimensional scaling models, the ideal point and vector models, were applied to data on mode preferences of 114 adults in the metropolitan area. While both models produced fairly similar results, the vector model performed slightly better than the other in terms of interpretability of the results. The transport attributes elicited are comfort, flexibility, travel cost, travel time, privacy, and safety; among which comfort is salient most. The comfort variable is a multi-faceted attribute in nature. The variations of attribute preferences are most significant between the gender groups as well as worker/nonworker groups. In particular, male workers, female workers and female nonworkers form three distinctive market segments. An unidimensional scaling of the preference data reveals that subway, auto-driver, and subscription bus modes are preferred most, whereas motorcycle and bicycle least. The other modes of express bus, taxt, auto-passenger, bus and walk rank intermediately. An examination of how preference orders vary among modal groups hints that users align their stated attitudes to their choice in order to reduce cognitive dissonance.
