  • Recently, N-screen service and secondary device have gotten an attention from public. Also, we can experience N-screen service through various digital devices. N-screen means multimedia technology which can seamlessly consume multimedia content. Secondary device means auxiliary multimedia device which can consume content related to main content through adjunct connection to main device. Not only be electronic manufactures interested in N-screen technology and services but also digital devices applied for N-screen have been released. But it has limitation that user can only consume content to be purchased from content company server not device of user. This paper proposes the system that composes effective and various N-screen multimedia service through MPEG-4 LASeR (Lightweight Application Scene Representation) PMSI (Presentation and Modification of Structured Information) as international standard technology which can provide scene description including many instruction for dynamic update of scene.

  • An academic library is one of the largest information sources for international students to obtain learning resources, which have a great impact on their studies. However, most academic libraries currently have not provided adequate multilingual services except English, which makes it difficult for international students whose mother language is not English to perform academic work. Accordingly, the present study defines the customized services for international students as the ones that have been supported in ltiple languages among academic library services and aims to examine their effect on user satisfaction in academic libraries. Furthermore, the study has compared international students' satisfaction with academic libraries - one that provides appropriate customized services with the other that does not. The surveys have been conducted with Chinese international students in two different universities and a total of 138 responses were analyzed. The study found that the customized services for the international students influenced their satisfaction with library use. In particular, multilingual services had positive effects on satisfaction with services such as brochures/signs, access to and use of resources through the homepage, and user instruction. The findings of the study suggest practical insights on how academic libraries provide effective services for supporting international students' academic tasks.

  • We propose a flow admission control (FAC) for setting up a wire-speed connection for new flows based on their negotiated bandwidth. It also terminates a flow that does not have a packet transmitted within a certain period determined by the users. The FAC can be used to provide a reliable transmission of user datagram and transmission control protocol applications. If the period of flows can be set to a short time period, we can monitor active flows that carry a packet over networks during the flow period. Such powerful flow management can also be applied to security systems to detect a denial-of-service attack. We implement a network processor called a flow management network processor (FMNP), which is the second generation of the device that supports FAC. It has forty reduced instruction set computer core processors optimized for packet processing. It is fabricated in 65-nm CMOS technology and has a 40-Gbps process performance. We prove that a flow router equipped with an FMNP is better than legacy systems in terms of throughput and packet loss.

  • This study intends to develop web-based information literacy program, analyze learning effects and to suggest a model case to those who wants to develop a web-based information literacy program in the future. For this purpose, we analyze undergraduate students' needs, design and develop a web-based information literacy program, and analyze the practical effects of the web-based information literacy program. As a result of research, we found out that both web-based and face-to-face information literacy program are similarly effective in learning and satisfactory to students.

  • This study aimed to explore group members' collaborative information by analyzing the number and the content of text contributions on the online discussion board in the group-based research project. This study explored graduate students' collaborative information behavior, affective approach, and types of collaboration and support needed in the group-based research project based on Kuhlthau's Information Search Process(ISP) Model and Yue and He's Collaborative Information Behavior(CIB) Model. It is expected that the results of this study will be useful for understanding of CIB in the group-based research project and applying information literacy instruction to information user in collaboration.

  • The study investigated the continuing education program desirable for the academic librarian under digital circumstances. For this purpose the study investigated the education programs provided by the National Library of Korea, the American Library Association, and the Association of Research Libraries, and also undertook a questionnaire survey of academic librarians in Korea. As a result the study suggested user instruction, information retrieval, electronic licensing etc. as programs needed most by the academic librarians. And also suggested intellectual freedom, disaster planning, cooperation with faculty, presentation and teaching skill as desirable to be included in the continuing education program.

  • This study examined the perceptions of freshmen students on the use of a university library site. The students were in the beginning month of their undergraduate program in Hansung University without being taught a formal library instruction session. The results show users experienced uncertainty, difficultly, confusion and anxiety while they were interacting with various functions of the library site. The findings revealed that the users' perceptions were originated from: (1) the insufficiency of the students' knowledge and skills related to library use and (2) the inadequacy of the library system features, in particular its interface features. Based on the findings, implications to improve library instructional services and system interfaces are suggested.

  • Recently the user of distance education system using Intemet-Web are increasing rapidly. This paper shows that Hierarchical WBI documents generator by using CGI is devised and applied to development of distance education system for group-level spoken english. This overcomes the problems of the ready-made programs, which took a lot of time and cost. To generate WBI documents, The key is established to each document saved in server by types of the hierarchical structure and is transmitted to client. By client transmitting this key to server when next documentary is required. Sever can know what documents the client needs. The WBI documentary generator tells the keys transmitted from the client, automatically generates a new documentary to send, and delivery it.

  • The most good library's service will be accomplished for the system of user centralized and we can't expect the development of school library without student's use. This research has been designed for an attempt to know why students don't use the school library. The methods employed to achieve the purpose of this study are (1) To establish some tentative factors affecting the school library's use or nonuse (2) to get necessary data, a questionnaire was made according to the tentative factors. A questionnaire was sent to teacher and students in the 4 sample high schools in Seoul. The followings are the am lysed results. (1) School library's collection are poor. (2) The school library's equipment and position are bad. (3) The guide or use instruction of school library are not carried out. (4) Teacher librarian can not reach the demand of the society and the atmosphere of library are not good. (5) The books are not lent to students and the circulation procedure are complicated. (6) Our country's educational programme does not organize to promote using the school library. (7) Teachers' knowledge for using the library are poor. (8) Entrance examination of the university disturbed to use the school library. (9) The school administration are not enough to understand about the school library.

  • Nowadays, Web-based bulletin board system is widely used for e-learning because of its effectiveness in communicating and information sharing. But harmful or irrelevant contents are frequently posted and these affect students in learning community based on Web-boards and the ill effect of Web-board is revealed. Some Web-boards provide features that allow users can filter specific words to resolve this problem but those features have shortcomings. Using these features the content that contains harmful words is always removed even if the whole meaning of it isn't harm and user who uses harmful words habitually cannot have an opportunity of having his/her bad habit be corrected. In this paper, we proposed new way of dealing with harmful words that overcomes those shortcomings.
