Case Study on Developing an Elderly Automatic Shower System

  • Objective: The aim of this study is developing an elderly automatic showering system by optimizing nozzle position and angle of water injection on ergonomics approach. Background: The elderly living in nursing home or hospital were increased by an aging population. Helping the elderly on showering is so hard. In addition, the existing showering/bathing systems are not effective because shower pattern of the elderly and washed range of nozzle were not considered. Method: Firstly, basic specification were determined by anthropometric approach. Secondly, position of nozzle and angle of water injection were determined through observation of elderly behavior on showering. And, finally, they were optimized by washing test and showering simulation. Results: On showering importance of body parts were able to analysis through observation of elderly behavior. The position of nozzle and angle of water injection was able to optimize by showering simulation. The automatic showering system was developed by considering their results. Conclusion: The most important technology of developing a showering system is the determining position of nozzle and angle of water injection, number of nozzle. It was developed by applying its results through user centered-research. Application: The user centered-research of developing products was able to apply directly to develop automatic bath, showering products etc. Further more it was available to apply senior friendly products.

Lucene search system to offer Hadoop's MapReduce with the Apache project Nutch, Solr, HDFS, utilizing design and implementation. This is the Web search users who wish to use depending on the intentions of the data that you want to collect and index information will be utilized in the search field.

  • In this paper, we introduce 'Contents Based Image Retrieval' which helps a user find the images he or she needs more easily and reconfigures the images automatically. With this system, we try to realize the language of (motion) picture, that is, the Montage from the viewpoint of the user. The Real-time Montage System introduced in this paper uses 'Discrete Fourier Transform'. Through this, the user can find the feature of the image selected and compare the analogousness with the image in the database. This kind of system leads to the user's speedy and effective retrieving, Also, we can acquire the movement image of the user by Camera Tracking in Real-time. The movement image acquired is to be reconfigured automatically with the image of the user. In this way, we can get an easy and speedy image reconfiguration which sets to the user's intention. This system is a New Media Design tool(entertainment) which induces a user enjoy participating in it. In this system, Thus, the user is not just a passive consumer of one-way image channels but an active subject of image reproduction in this system. It is expected to be a foundation for a new style of user-centered movie (media based entertainment).

  • The purpose of this study is to introduce a customer relationship management(CRM) for more user satisfied information in through the relationship between an user-centered library management and library customers. The characteristics of library customer information needs and a general CRM system design are introduced. The result shows a plan for library CRM system. It is included a conceptual modeling design for the CRM system, a data dictionary, and event class.

  • With the recent global trends in environmental preservation, the importance of sustainable construction is being highlighted in Korea. In particular, the trend is being discussed about life cycle of the apartment houses in various aspects. However the Korean construction market and housing policy have been increasingly focusing on supplier. Structures become progressively obsolete after a certain period, but their durability can be extended with proper maintenance management. Accordingly, if maintenance management on the structures is made efficiently, waste of construction energy and damage to the environment and economic loss due to early demolition and reconstruction can be effectively prevented.   • Today's Virtual Reality(VR) technology has become considerably more affordable and sophisticated with rapidly advancing computer technology. Photo-realistic visual representations along with real-time interactivity are now achievable without special programing knowledge and expensive equipment. The purpose of this paper is to establish how simple, credible user testing methods based on VR simulations can be utilized to improve design decision making towards more sensible design solutions for end-users. Results of a case study demonstrate the value of potential user-testing feedback in a simulated 3D virtual service space, i.e., restaurant interior. User feedback from the VR simulation includes preferences in table location, privacy, and values of seating preferred tables. A new design framework incorporating an empirical testing method for service spaces is presented. The overall design process, the development of the VE, and the user testing method and findings are discussed. This study provides useful guidances for future efforts in the areas where such technology may benefit to understand end-user feedbacks in design process.

  • When a product is designed, user's requirements should be well analyzed and applied to the design so that the psychological and aesthetic factors of a product can be accurately conveyed to consumers. The essence of product development is to analyze the changes in the purchasing tendency of consumers and the needs of times, find out user experiences to apply to a design, and establish the objective of product development that well considers those. Designing should be recognized as one that designs even the sensitivity and experience created in the relationship with users, beyond the conventional notion of design that it draws the physical form of a product. As the subjects that design should consider have expanded like this, it has become important that today's design provides a new experience as well as simply develops formative elements based on the functions of an object. As a result, it becomes impossible to accomplish such objective only with the traditional design process that existing designers have stuck to so far. In this respect, this study is aimed to draw out a system and methodology for a user-oriented design process so that design can provide expanded experience to users from product form, applied material, and service.

Overview and Prospects of Patient Centered-Smart Hospitals (환자중심 스마트병원의 개요와 전망)

  • With the development of the information and communication technology, the smart hospital has become a new trend in a healthcare industry. This study reviewed the concept, key technologies, applications, and future challenges of a smart hospital, and the user-centered strategies for designing a smart hospital. In smart hospitals, digitally enabled clinical staff will be able to produce better patient outcomes by delivering a more integrated patient-centered care with an efficient manner in connected facilities systems. However, to promote a successful patient-centered smart hospital environment in the future, various obstacles regarding cost, technology, security, and standards should be overcome. It is also necessary for patients and medical personnel to be involved as service users.

Design Process Suggestion of Vibrotactile Interface applying Haptic Perception Factor Analysis (햅틱 인지 요인 분석을 적용한 진동 촉감 인터페이스 설계 프로세스 제안)

  • This study suggests a design process for vibrotactile interface that can apply haptic perception factors reflecting human tactile mechanisms. This process consists of 4 stages: the haptic sense requirement analysis stage, the haptic element analysis stage, the haptic perception factor analysis stage, the haptic requirement detailed design, and the prototype implementation stage. The advantage of this design process is that unnecessary tasks can be excluded in deriving and implementing user requirements, by applying haptic perception factor analysis, and the biggest feature is that research results on ergonomic mechanisms can be reflected in the haptic design, completes prototype development simultaneously while determining the haptic requirements statement by performing user evaluation, usability testing, and haptic feature optimization tasks simultaneously. This design process includes all stages from user requirements to haptic function detailed design and prototype implementation, so it is expected that general developers who lack expertise in haptic will also be able to design user-centered designs, enabling design and implementation of haptic functions at a certain level.
